Young Momin Khan is the Sarangi player to watch now, and too in the long time future. His depth of tonal pathos and exposition of ragas is amazing, given his youthful age; and his control over the instrument is marvellous. While the great Nathu Khan of Pakistan was the unparalleled master of kutbole Sarangi several decades ago, here Sarangi is focused on slow bow movement with the left hand doing most of the work to generate the gayaki of the human vocal chords. The imagery that Madhuvanti invokes here is that of a primeval forest resting against the backdrop of a high mountain Massif. Somewhere in the woods and glades, peacocks spread their plumage silently, and pythons glide across rain laden tree trunks in search of prey. The human spirit traverses this forest in silent tread, while the raga speaks on its behalf. That is this Madhuvanti here. Great work Momin Khan, and good wishes.
