That rattle snake is in blue which means he is getting ready to shed . His eyes were blue so he was almost blind which means he probably couldn’t even see you. But when you poked him he wasn’t sure what was poking him and became defensive. He would have given you the warning rattle as you were approaching him otherwise. So happy for you not being bit and fires doing what it does best. As a former firefighter I can tell you fire is used as a tool to create fire breaks and most importantly training. Loved the video!! God bless ❤

That rattler got out, you can count on it! Now is the Dog Daze, even Copperheads are shedding too! I was trimming tree limbs in my yard, left the limbs on the ground overnight, next morning I went to pick them up, copperhead was in Dog Daze, eyes covered but mean as a hornet and nearly got me too! Be careful people!

That snake situation should warn you not to do fires by yourself. If something happens then there should be a backup. Please think about it. I know you know what you do, but don't tempt your good fortune. I worked for Forestry for 35 years and bad things do happen. Praying for your safety. ❤🙏

A few years back the wife and I drove up to the old family farm, The old house hadn't been lived in with exception of a week or two during the summer and a week or so at Christmas for family get togethers. The old place had been kept in good shape.
We arrived late after stopping in town for supplies and dinner. We came in did a little cleaning, we both took a bath and went to bed. I was up early, long before the sun, made coffee got the local paper and went to the pot. Set there read the paper, drank my coffee, did my morning.
I was dressed and almost out the door to hunt when the wife went to screaming. I came running thinking she was near death. "There's snakes in the toilet she screamed as I entered the bathroom.
Sure enough three 4 foot long so Rattlers were curled up around the inside of the toilet trying to stay out of the water. With a plunger I pushed them down the toilet flushing as they went.
I had set there 30 minutes reading the paper and drinking coffee. Snakes in the plumbing system, I went out found the septic take top, lifted it to expose a den of Rattlers. I killed a few with bird shoot. The neighbor drove in to see who was in. He a rattle snake catcher took some 130 snakes from the septic tank. Close Call!

We purchased a twenty acre hunting property in central west Texas and I applied for the permits to due some invasive tree and shrub removal and I was informed that I couldn't do anything to help the property because of a couuple of endangered species crap! One was some kind of dang mouse and the other was a dang lizard! Unbelievable that the government is controlling so much of our lives! I was allowed to plant a few feed plots without tillage! Crazy times! We do enjoy the property and our grandson got his first whitetail last season! But we could manage it much better if our government wouldn't interfere!

From my understanding, if you see 1 there are 3. Timber rattlers travel with 1 male & 2 females, which could be why he went deep into the pile. They like to save their venom from prey so they will try to get away from humans if they can. (Unless they are shedding their skin, then they strike at anything.)

There was a kid in the town I grew up in that was out playing in his back yard after his dad burned down an old out house. The Fire had gone out and the next day, he dared my younger brother to jump in the ashes. My brother said No but his friend decided to show my brother the fire was out and he jumped in. The fire was still hot and the hole was still there. He sunk into the fire to his calf's. I think the entire town herd him screaming that day. It was months before he was able to come back to school. If I remember right he was 8 or 9 when it happened. He is now 62 years old and I spoke to him about it. He said it's the dumbest thing he has ever done and still carries the scars and pain to this day. Skin graphs for months and then needing to get his toes cut apart after they healed together. Fire is nothing to mess around with even after you think it has gone out, the ground is till hot!

My daugher was bitten by a rattlesnake in Yoseemite. It would be good to educate yourself about the type of rattlesnakes that live in your area. Anyway my daughter did not respond to all of the antivenom she recieved. She was fortunately able to leave the hospital 3 weeks later. I'm extremely scared of snake's. My best friend and I were cleaning her car out after a trip to the sand dunes in Oklahoma when she was bitten on the ankle by a rattlesnake. We lived over 2 hours from a major hospital. As we waited for first responders to come to her aid I watched as her ankle swelled to the size of a football in a matter of minutes. Since the hospital was so far away they flew her by helicopter to a children's hospital in Kansas City. She spent 2 months in the hospital recovering. She still has nerve damage from the bite. The property sure looks better. Thank You for sharing. Much love from our family to your family 💞

If you noticed, that rattlesnake's eyes were very cloudy. That means he's getting ready to shed. That's probably why he climbed up into that ceder pile. To shed, they scrape a section lose, then they perposly crawl through a thicket to catch the lose spot on something, and then they just pull and slither right out of the old skin. They usually won't strike or hunt in this condition, because they literally can't see through those cloudy eye covers. They can sometimes be completely blind when their close to shedding.

Waiting for the government to do things...Lahaina is still a burned out hull, parts of New Orleans still in tatters. I helped after two disastrous floods one in Kansas City and one in Minot. In KC the local churches and neighborhood groups mobilized and flood damage was repaired quickly. We were in Minot a year after the flood with a church group and many families were still in FEMA trailers. I hope Sulphur is not going to wait on the government and neighbors help neighbors to recover. In my experience it is far far better. I hope your burial ground survey doesn't take longer than your grant timelimit.

It usually takes alot to get them to rattle at you, thats what makes them so dangerous. You get got, and never heard them rattle. Thank god, they got delisted from threatened list in Texas.

I’m terrified of fires. In 1960, my father was a cropduster pilot. He and a friend would scout the farm for wires. They unfortunately both missed one that ran off into some trees. My dad hadn’t been allowed to use the plane that had the capability to cut those wires. I still don’t understand how…. But anyway, he hit the wire and was witnessed trying to save the field when he came down. The plane caught fire and the fire is what killed him. So, for all these years, fire has terrified me. I was 16 then…

That is a beautiful canebrake “Timber” rattlesnake. We grow some big timber’s here in the Ozark’s.They are not aggressive towards humans they will defend themselves though. The thing about timber rattlesnakes is that they only travel less than half a mile from where they’re originally born so if you have one you have a lot, you just haven’t been seeing them probably. If you have any bluffs, rocks ledges, that’s where they probably den. And just like one of the comments above when their eyes are blue like that they’re almost ready to shed, and they are the most snappy at thattime to they can’t see.

Daniel, I am so glad you did NOT BIT by that rattlesnake!! Deadly had been
    !!!!
I never saw such a orchestrated and smooth burn before. Very interesting and I enjoyed it very much! My father always burned on the farm in the springtime when it was damp and it rained I notice because when I was 16 we were working on the lower section of the yard where the mulberry tree was and the creek ran nearby perpendicular and daddy was over by the Orchard pruning and cleaning up brush and also somebody hollered at me Vickie watch out you’re in a garter Se area. Well, I wanted my brother to and me the act leaning against the mulberry tree nearby so I could kill it but he would not. So I headed towards the Mulberry tree, and one of my sisters hollered at me and said Vickie, look out you’re in a snakes. I looked down the newest hundreds of snakes, all different sizes Hissing pop up at me. my dad said I had dropped the ax on my foot and cut it off as all he saw, was me jumping in the air and ran to the house. He followed suit, and as luck would have it comment my mother was making homemade noodles and was rolling them out on the table and tossing them in the flower, and I just screamed and cried bloody murder. She couldn’t get a word and twice out of me and by the time daddy got there I was Hysterical. That hysteria lasted for days I wouldn’t sleep in my bed without nightmares. I wouldn’t drive the car for fear of snakes, coming up through the whole by the break, and that was a big inconvenience to my father, because he had to go and drive the kids to practice or schedule appointment Tuesday. I still have some snake nightmares, but I have overcome it for the most part., although I still have occasional nightmares about snakes. I have made my self take my children to the zoo and see snakes in order zoo, books about snakes, or even let them touch them at the fair, but that’s as far as I go. You were very, very lucky Daniel, Daniel and would’ve been tremendous loss to all of us. If OK you had been bitten by that. Rattlesnake.❣️🙏🙏 certainly saying prayers for you tonight Daniel.

I think you'll be surprised at how long those piles will take to burn. I once burned off pine tops from logging 40 acres. It burned for 2 months. I would check on it after a 4" rain thinking okay, that's it, and 2 days later a little wisp of smoke would appear. Two days after that it's back to a hot coal furnace again.
