Hi James! Thanks for the comment. You are correct the layout is DC, just never made the jump to light speed. It occupies an upstairs bedroom that measures 12'-9" x 11'-3". More information is available on the Facebook page.
@@collinsullivan1517 oh my mine is about the same size room but yours looks like it has so much more trackage and operations than mine how do you get to the middle of your town and the helix
@@jamesyoung1127 There is a large acces space on the left side of the room. I have to crawl under the table but once I'm there I have plenty of space everything on that side of the table is easy to reach. The left side is a bit of a squeeze. For now I don't have much access because the sheets of plywood and foam that will foam the base of the left upper deck are currently sitting on top of the right upper deck. But eventually I'll have some limited access. Look up my video, The Dark Side of the Layout for a humorous look at that corner of the layout.
Hello very nice Amazing... Do you have a nice Chanel... I love landscape modelling.. I have subscribe your Chanel.. Sorry my Englisch I am from Switzerland. Greetings from Switzerland Alex 😊😊👍👍
Very impressive layout Mr. Sullivan! I have two questions for you. The curved girder bridge was built using styrene parts or wood? And as for the Union Station masterpiece structure, you should have scratchbuilt it? One more "inquiry". What kind of advice would you have for the ones like myself who are beginning the process of learning in this railroading hobby? Thanks for the video, RR
Hey Robert, thanks for the note. The little bridge leading into the industrial district was just a quick throw-together made from scraps of styrene and styrene strips. The Union Station has been an on-going project for over two years. That is all scratch built from sheet and strip styrene. Advice for beginners? If you have never done any modeling start small and develop your skills. I recommend a book (if you like N scale) by Atlas, Nine N Scale Railroads. The construction methods are a bit out dated but its a good reference for some simple layouts. All wiring diagrams are included. Study some good books on the basics, see if there is a club nearby you can visit or join for help in getting started. TH-cam offers hundreds of how-to videos. Local hobby stores are also a good place to start.
@@collinsullivan1517 Thank You so much for the tips! I'll see if there's a nearby club in my area! Actually I'm more O Scale oriented, since I have 2 MTH diesels and and 8 also MTH NYC-Styled subway sets, but have also got some n scale stuff! I'll buy the book . Happy Railroading! RR
Hi Collin, layout looks great! I’m also doing a N scale layout. Around 8:15 I see what looks like sidewalks being installed. Do you use the printed plastic sidewalks glued on top of the plaster? And thanks again for your videos. They are a great help

The layout is a two level design (I have yet to build the upper deck). The helix provides a connection between the lower and upper level. The grade is about 1.5% and climbs 16 inches between levels.

Thanks William!
to be honest, i think you are totally nuts, but in a good way;)) what a task
Sometimes a little nuttiness leads to creativity. Thanks for the note.
my goodness what a beautiful layout you have there and that is only half of it !!!!!!! wow man you do have a lot to do but it will be worth it. how big is your room and is you layout dcc or dc. from the look of the control panel i would say dc but that is just a guess. any way very nice job with all the little details on your layout also. the whole thing is really nice cant wait to see the rest in action. thank you so much for sharing.
Great!
By the way..... I LOVE the background music......
Thanks! I've had a hard time finding music that doesn't infringe on copy rights or anyone's nerves.
Thanks for the video,
RR
RR
That Union Station! Wow! That's a build! Did you cut out all the windows by hand?
he windows are made by framing pieces around each opening. I'd never be able to cut openings very well.
Hi Collin, layout looks great! I’m also doing a N scale layout. Around 8:15 I see what looks like sidewalks being installed. Do you use the printed plastic sidewalks glued on top of the plaster? And thanks again for your videos. They are a great help
Hey Scott, thanks for the note. The sidewalks are actually thinly cast plaster. I call them plaster planks. I did a video to demonstrate how they are made. Here's a link th-cam.com/video/Cb4elhjvAGw/w-d-xo.html Later I did another video showing the installation of some of the sidewalks. th-cam.com/video/SkHVVYfL6jY/w-d-xo.html
How'd you make your sidewalks amazing I'm an N scale novice modeler if there's any methods I can use young Jedi needs assistance thanks again for the amazing layout
Hi Derrick. Here's a link to an earlier video that demonstrates how the sidewalks were made

Here's another showing some installation. th-cam.com/video/SkHVVYfL6jY/w-d-xo.html
Is the helix there so the trains can climb, can its not too steep?
The layout is a two level design (I have yet to build the upper deck). The helix provides a connection between the lower and upper level. The grade is about 1.5% and climbs 16 inches between levels.
Wonderful time capsule Collin. It is always a pleasure to see your layout. Could you tell me the size of the room you are working in? Thanks for sharing. Dave
Thank Dave! The layout occupies an upstairs bedroom that measures 12'-3"×11'-9".
