Great to see that the love for your LR is also alive with the next generation! Fit a strut to your back door, you won't regret that!
I recently purchased my dream D110 crewcab and have been on few short trip adventures with my 4 and 2 year old kids + a dog. Hearing your great childhood core memories with your family D110 and how it shaped you to be the lady you are today makes me so happy. I hope to give my children the same love for these fine automotives.
Ah congratulations!! What a lovely comment. I wish your family all the fun and memories in your new Landy! 😊
Ummm V8 sounds great! I like that red colour
Really enjoyed watching this about your families 110! Thank you for introducing it to the channel! I can see where you get your love for cars from, your dad’s clearly a car guy with having a Saab as well, and loving his V8 land rovers!
We had a disco 1 in the family. It was clearly a Friday (and probably Friday at the end of a bad shift) car as it was the worst car reliability wise my parents ever had. Highlights were 4 new gearboxes, two new transfer cases, three new turbo’s on the diesel engine, a new radiator, four new clutches. The power steering would momentarily seize if you went through deep standing water (the dealer eventually realised that there was some sort of shield missing when an engineer from Solihull looked at it. The dealer screwed up the order, or the factory cocked up as the car turned up with a blue interior when it was ordered with the sandy brown one, dealer refused to acknowledge it was wrong until my dad came back with his copy of the order. We tooled around in the dealer principals Range Rover vogue se for a month, my dad even found his fuel card in it! As he hated the fuel consumption, he managed to get permission to use it!
I’m so glad you enjoyed!! He certainly does have good taste in cars. I plan on getting the Saab on the channel at some point.
That’s such a shame you had a bad experience with your Land Rovers 🥲
This is definitely my favourite video you’ve done Amelia! Your dad was a natural on camera too. So wholesome that you’re keeping it in the family and I love the story behind the reg number too.
Off road content and shows sound ace! Looking forward to seeing the work you get done to it as well 😊
Thank you I really appreciate the lovely comment! 😊
I have owned V8 Land Rovers for a combined 17 years and never broken down enough to warrant a ride on a tow truck. Currently have a Series 3 V8.
My kids were brought up on series 3's! They have many happy memories in the back, on the bonnet, hanging off the rear steps, on the rear ladder and driving it on the beach!!! We used to play a game, I would put the Landy into low range 1st gear and tootle down the beach. My two sons who were 14 years old at the time sat in the front next to me (three seats in the front) I would open the drivers door and get out whilst the car was doing walking speed down the beach, then I would let it pass me and then walk to the passenger door and climb in as my son's scuttled across ro the drivers seat until we get back to our original seating positions! My lads still remember this and they are 32 now!!!!!
Bloody gear vehicles!! Thank you for this!
What a great story! 😊
Thanks for sharing, it's good you decided to buy it off him and keep it in the family. Would love to see you take it on a big roadtrip through to Scotland or somewhere rugged.
What a sound. I really like land rover v8 engine sounds, they are something else
I had a 110 County V8 . Awesome offroad , but fuel 20L/100km . Travelling outback regions of Qld and NSW was easy.
👍🇦🇺🦘
I’ve owned my 1989 Land Rover 90 (yes, not a Defender) for 23 years. It has the much maligned 19j Diesel Turbo engine that is still running well. New galvanised chassis three years ago, the body and doors showing their age but regular maintenance has kept it in good running order.
Your dad has proper LR driving shoes on. 🤗
To remove the defender sticker, use a toffee wheel on a hand drill, makes the job quick and easy and you wont damage the paint underneath. Great video 👍
Love it! Especially the "slight hole" in the door!
I only have the one Land Rover, it's a 90 and was made by Tamiya. It has the same body style as your one, but lacks the snorkel. Oh and mine has exactly the same (looking) tires!
My Landy was bought from a shop that had it on the shelf for probably 10 years. It works well, but the tires are almost rock hard! So it drifts on the kitchen floor!!!!!!!
110 is a great truck , we have had a 88 , 110 and a 90. All which were fantastic to drive and my daughter really enjoyed them…
I love it. It’s great you are keeping it in the family.
It’s interesting to see the prices they sell for in the UK. Here in the US, the prices are crazy. I bought a 1966 S2A , 3 months ago and felt like I was donating a body part. Still I paid below market.
The V8 sounds choice.👌
To test the snorkel, start the engine, get a plastic bag with no holes in place it over the snorkel. The engine will cut out if no air gets to the engine.
If the engine doesn’t cut out, it means it’s not air tight which means you can’t go through water. If the engine does cut out, it means it’s air tight and you can do water crossings
To easy
I'm not sure whether this will be of any great help, but regarding paint: Paintman are very knowledgeable and have been able to identify every Land Rover colour I have enquired about. You've maybe already tried, Im not sure, but worth an ask if you ever think about respraying again, for example when repairing your rear door.
Those V8s are so cool, I'm very jealous. Wish I could put one in my Series if I had the time and money 😂.
Great to see the car staying in the family and preparing for a new chapter - it sounded absolutely superb 👌🏼 I wish my Disco sounded as throaty !
Great Landy and video. Don’t ever sell her! Cheers from the US🇺🇸
Lovely vehicle. An 89 110 should be Masai red. Hard to tell in photos whether than is correct. 1990 red changed to Arrow aka portofino red. My 94 is portofino red (94 NAS soft top V8 of course). Regardless, looks to be Masai red to me although with any red sunlight will fade it so factory paint will be darker than what’s on it now.
Yes! Really enjoyed it, thank you 'Amelia's Dad'. And a happy new year to you all 🎉🎇🍾🥂
I’m glad!! Happy New Year! 🎉
Sorry, thank YOU as well, A. 😁👍@@ameliaautomotive
@@dasautogt haha don’t worry he was the star of the show in this video! 😂
a great era of rover, very nice!!
My wife and I bought a brand new County wagon way back in 1986. We did 270 thousand kilometres in it before trading on a Discovery 2. It was our family car. Excellent off roader. Ours used to really crackel when off roading down hill. Great tow vehicle. In Australia we use a better tow set up which does not compromise the ramp off angle. Our older kids learnt to drive with it and used to frive from a very early age when off roading (probably could not do that today). Will watch eith interest what you fo with yours. Still have LRs today.
Love hearing people’s Land Rover stories!! 😊
Loved this video can’t wait to see what you do with it.
A never broken down Land Rover needs to be in the Ripley's Believe It Or Not museum!
Haha it does indeed! This car has been the most reliable thing ever!
I'll take issue that a never broken down Land Rover needs to be in Ripley's Believe it or Not. Having owned a number of Land Rovers and Rover cars, the most reliable vehicle I owned between 1964 and 1993 was a 1972 NADA 88-inch Series III (s/n 25900379A). I owned that L-R from new in August 1972 until it was stolen in 1993. I had a number of oil leaks---"designed to leak oil," I'd tell people "as it keeps the undercarriage from rusting." I also cracked the exhaust manifold (p/n 574721 which was replaced with the redesigned 598473 exhaust manifold that was still on the L-R many years later). Broken rear half shafts (p/n 591378 and 591379) every 12 months or so after having 9.00 x 16" Michelin XS tires fitted to the vehicle. My 1972 Land Rover which I put over 200,000 miles on prior to being stolen, NEVER left me stranded anywhere or at any time. Most of my Land Rovers and Rover cars were very well cared for. (Exception between the ages of 16 and 22 when I got married.) The reliability issues I had in those days, and even the broken half shafts on 25900379A, were all the result of the driver. They were not due to faulty manufacturing. Thanks again for your wonderful video! P.S. I never had a chassis frame, dash panel or upper or lower door rust out on any L-R I ever owned. Great vehicles that fully deserve to have a loving owner. Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Hawaii. @@ameliaautomotive
Having owned 4 LR series lll's I can say that I have never broken down...ever!
Lovely, and the Land Rover's okay too❤😂
Hi Amelia, my name is also Richard, I am from Australia, but I do know one thing. In answer to your question at 4:28 about how old your Land Rover 110 is, the letter G came out in 1989, between 1 Aug 89 and 31 July 90, so your Land Rover 110 is 34 years old.
Lovely Landy. That engine/exhaust sounds magnificent. Does it have power steering?
So enjoyable
Hello from Lisa the Land Rover 😊
👍keep it going good v8
Video👍!🇱🇻
Good car
A very nice looking Land Rover! I didn't catch whether this was a coil sprung or leaf sprung L-R. I've never owned a coil sprung Land Rover (the proper "real" Land Rover as opposed to the JCL's in the family, the Range Rover, the Discovery, and the Freelander). I had a 1967 NADA 109" station wagon with the 2.6 liter high compression six cylinder engine in it. For the most part, however, I owned number of 88-inch "series" vehicles, starting with a 1962 Series IIA in April 1964. That's the vehicle I learned to drive on. It was a sixteenth birthday present to me from my late father. I've also owned various Rover cars, P-6's and the 1980 3500 SD-1 NAS. I was so "into" Land Rovers and Rover cars by 1974, that I went into the Land Rover/Rover parts business in San Diego, California. Had that business until trying to get Chrysler Corporation to buy Land Rover Limited. This was when Lee Iacocca was at the helm, about two years before Iacocca's Chrysler bought AMC/Jeep. I can say as a fact, that Chrysler had no interest in the AMC part of that corporation! I've not owned a Rover or Land Rover since 1993. That said, I'll love the old Rover Company and the vehicles they made (pre B.L) until the day I die. May you have many more years of faithful service out of your dad's old Land Rover! Thank you for this wonderful video and Happy New Year to you and your family! Andy McKane, Maunaloa, Molokai, Hawaii.
It's coil sprung.
Thank you for setting me straight on the vehicle being coil sprung. (I knew that all One Tens (original name) and all Ninety's (original name) were coil sprung.) Either I was having a senior moment, which at 75 is entirely possible, or it didn't occur to me that the video was about a 110 rather than a 109. I departed from the Land Rover business on 1 January 1986. This was in the U.S. Here in this country the last factory (non-grey market) Land Rovers were imported by B.L. in 1974. British Leyland did bring some good things to the old Rover Company Limited, but for the most part, I believe that merger had more adverse effects for Rover/Land Rover than positive ones. And B.L.'s marketing in the U.S. as relates to Rover cars, Land Rover and the Range Rover---which they never imported into North America---was a disaster. It was with this knowledge and the fact that product quality was in a constant decline that I took the matter up with Mr. Iacocca and tried to get Chrysler to buy Land Rover Limited. I was heartbroken when Chrysler purchased AMC/Jeep rather than L-R Ltd. In hindsight, Iacocca and his deputies acted smartly. Andy McKane, 4 January 2024.
mines same year ex army v8 now a 300 tdi double cab soon to have a bmw m57 engine and auto box in it ,i love mine will never been sold will be handed down to my daughter when i pop my clogs, you need to get those rear mudflap brackets re attached to the rear quarter too lol it needs its flaps back on it .
Never broken down in a land-rover, wow that's a first
My daughters 14 but loves our trips out, not so much when i drop her off outside school though.
As a Saab owner, would like to see a review of it. The mats look the same as my 2001 Viggen.
How funny you noticed! Yes have a Viggen my sister drives and a 2.0l Hot Areo. He likes his Saabs. Will definitely get them both on the channel at some point! 😊
Looks like Rutland Red? Hard to tell on camera.
Only fool's and horse's... what trigger said about his brush....its never broken down its all original....iv had the same brush since new.... although everything has been replaced.... Cool
Lol the car was rebuilt but engine remained hasn’t had anything done apart from regular maintenance. It’s just been looked after! I’d say that’s still an achievement for an old Land Rover!! 😂
It may not have broken down, but boy, it has had a lot of new stuff added.
It sure has! It’s not broken down because it’s been looked after. Hasn’t really had much done to it since the rebuild though which was a long time ago! 😊
It might be Masai red. LRC 234.
Some off reading, please. Very enjoyable video.
The official red colour in 1989/90 was Arrow red. F145 RRF was mine with the turbo 2*5 diesel, great car rubbish engine.
You purchased from dad being his little princess ? He should have gifted you this as a heritage
Haha that would have been great! 👏😂
Their is nothing rong with Land Rovers its just the Pepole that work on them that don't know what they are doing. I've owned Toyota Land Cruisers and since I have owned the Land Rover Discovery 3 I would not go back to a Toyota. I go 4x4 in the mountains totally off road ie no road and the Discovery out preforms the Land Cruiser and the Toyota had LSD DIFFS Front and back, the Discovery blows it away with Eezze 😊 Land Rovers for ever 🎉
Would love to know the story of the single surviving mud flap 😂
Haha I was waiting for someone to notice that. It fell off years ago and we never put another one back on 😂
It's not a car. It's a Land Rover or an Off road vehicle.
Has the odometer ticked over to 200000 miles yet?
Not yet! Got 30,000 miles left I believe! ☺️
@@ameliaautomotive 30,000 left, doesn't look too far away, I'm sure it will get there, Richard.
never broken down , just needed lot of planned repairs.
The car itself was rebuilt but we haven’t done much to the engine. We’ve cared and given this car regular maintenance which is most likely why in the time we’ve had it it’s never let us down. It’s a solid engine! 😊
@@ameliaautomotive yep the old rover lump was not the worst , the mpg wasnt great , but nothing gets great mpg in a land rover .
I’m confused, u and ur dad keep saying it’s “not a defender, it’s a 110” a 110 is a defender no? Defenders come in either 90’ wheel base (defender 90) and a 110’ wheel base (defender 110). The numbers refer to the wheel bases, but both wheel bases come under the car model name which is defender, am I wrong? That’s what I’ve always been told by my dad who has owned defenders and the series 1s, 2s and 3s all his life. Some one pls explain.
The 110 came out in 1983. Followed by the 90 in 1984. The name ‘Defender’ wasn’t used until 1990. Anything after that is a Defender, before it was named a Land Rover 110 or Land Rover 90. That’s why this has the Land Rover 110 badge at the front. Hope that helps 😊
Not reliable, you must be joking i have a 110=
200 Tdi 317 k mls apx .same age, same colour, open top, broken done once beside home, timing belt will not sell 😅
If It had the 2.5 Diesel You wouldn't be making this video
Not reliable. Owned a land rover for 17 months. Horrific. Had to trade the piece of junk in and lost $14k negative equity. I love and hate land rovers so much. Will never buy another one. Its a beautiful piece of trash.
Depends what you owned. If it was one of the US D2 v8s, they have engines with big design flaws. These old 80s versions had none of those “enhancements” and are much more reliable. Similar with the 2.5L petrol and diesels of that time - bloody slow, but lasted forever
