The best defensive record ever in a 46-game season of the 2nd tier of English football was in the pre-Championship era when Sunderland only conceded 28 goals in the 1998/99 Division 1 season
As a fellow Blade then top 2 is between us, Leeds and Burnley. Sunderland and Middlesbrough will continue to be inconsistent as I've seen it year on year, especially with Middlesbrough. Might come down to who has the luck with injuries (we definitely don't want anymore season long injuries).
@@1990-t1j I knew they had a fair few but if it's 11 first team player then that a long list. However, I would have said Burnley had greater squad depth and I admit I don't know how many of those are long term injuries.
I’m hoping Burnley really kick on now. We haven’t been great this season but the last 3 games it’s just like we have clicked. A few of our injured players are on the way back now as well. UTC
What's the saying? attack win you matches but defences win you championships. Do think that (when firing) Leeds and Boro are the 2 best teams in the league. However success in this league is all about consistency, the most consistent teams who hardly concede are Sheff Utd and Burnley, also think Sheff Utd have character and that fighting spirit able to win ugly when required. So agree with Ben, think top 2 will be Sheff Utd and possibly Leeds but the Leeds away form will need to improve, otherwise Leeds will be in the playoffs again whilst it's Burnley in the auto's
Harry Souttar has made the difference for Sheff utd ,will be interesting to see if Ruud Van Nistelrooy wants to recall him back to Leicester. That could be a big blow to their top 2 chances.
Boro are far too inconsistent at the moment to back for the top 2. We play Burnley Leeds and Millwall in our next 3 games and depending on how we do there will tell us if we have what it takes to challenge for autos. Knowing boro though we will probably beat the toughest teams and then lose to lower table opposition straight after.
You're not wrong mate. Typical Boro will see us turn over those 3, then get a good beating off Rooney's mob and dropping points against the Owls too. Before getting back to winning ways against Burnley again.😅
It’s a squad game and that gives any parachute club a better chance . Sunderland don’t have this, but the young players are incredible. If they keep a small squad fit and free of too much suspension , then add sensibly , they could pick themselves back up again from the current lull.
Boro have been underperforming if anything and had freakish results (e.g. Blackburn), if they improve as the season goes on, which we tend to do, we will be scary good. Need to cut out defensive mistakes and figure out how to beat defensive teams.
I'm waiting for the rug to be pulled from under Burnley. The slow start and now we're picking up decent form. I don't have it in me to be this positive. See where all the sides stand at the beginning of January and we'll have a better idea. Right now I have to say Sheff Utd and (Hate to say it) Leeds.
It's the two teams with the most points at the end of the season, it should be the top three, but the EFL like to rob the third best side and make them play a mini cup comp with 4th, 5th and 6th. The winner gets the final spot. Hope that aids your understanding 👍🏻
As a Watford fan I personally see it ending; 1. Burnley 2. Sheffield United 3. Sunderland 4. Middleborough 5. Leeds 6. Blackburn/West Brom With Sunderland v Leeds being the final at Wembley. I’ve seen Scott Parker walk this league one too many times to bet against him and same with Chris Wilder. This is all bar something crazy happening like Leeds spending 100 million in January or Burnley/Sheffield selling their backline lol.
Watched Burnley and Boro play last night in appalling conditions and it was excellent entertainment Should both be top six As to the top two think both those have a great chance Leeds should win it on paper but they still need a clinical finisher That let Leeds down last year probably created as many chances as Ipswich but took less
I'm a Sunderland fan and I don't think we will get promoted this time around again. Too many draws have slipped us. We might have a chance if we can make it in play-offs. We are still unbeaten at home but we need the draws to turn into wins.
i think it’s fair to include blackburn points wise, obviously we are still shite but we do have a game in hand, so if we won we’d be above middlesbrough and watford. obviously we haven’t won that but just a little thing to think about
You'll be hard pushed to find a Sheff United fan who thinks we'll end up in the top 2 given how history has kicked us up the backside so frequently and let's not forgot the FL who might decide to punish us again for something which has previously never incurred a punishment. Now compare that to Wednesday fans who believe the league ended after the first game and Leeds fans who still think they are top now and nobody can catch them because they are Leeds.
Hi Ben. I'm a Middlesbrough fan. Yes we have daft blibs i.e. losing at home to Blackburn. We have 2 massive games coming up. Burnley and Leeds. If we can get something from those 2 we have a chance. We need 4 pts minimum. Maybe not top 2 but I'm watching Millwall ATM. I think they could make play offs. UTB.
I can tell you 1 thing you ain't beating leeds away there home is stupid u will lose like 4-3 or something like that and burnley well that has 0-0 stamped on it or 1 -0 either way
Boro haven't got going yet shocking at the back. Thought by now keep ball sloppy mistakes. If they stop gifting the doors open. For me it's Sheffield and Leeds 😮
Leeds and Burnley. Sheff Utd will drop off if suspensions of key players keep occurring. Any more injuries at the top of the pitch will end their push.
Sunderland have had a dip & now they should kick on you can never write them off 1. Blades 2.Cats. 3. Leeds 4. W B A. 5. Burnley Anything can happen !!!
West Brom have only lost 2 games with major defensive injuries and have only lost 2 games. Not saying we’re in a title fight but easily in the conversation w boro
As a Leeds fan, this isn't a great league at all this year. We've shot ourselves in the foot against some uninspiring sides (mainly Sunderland and Burnley) and Sheffield United were awful when we played them. I laughed when I first saw Watford in the top 6 as they were poor. Boro are the only side I'm genuinely worried about, they look a quality side. We're the only team standing in the way of us running away with it, that being said we've been very good at that standing in the way so far.
Sheff Utd, Leeds and Burnley will get promoted - all recently relegated and getting parachute money. Until that situation changes then it will always be the same
Obviously Burnley and Sheffield Utd again. No one can compete with their Premierl league parachute money and FPP wage bills. This will go on for decades.
If all goes well over the next two matches against Burnley and Leeds, then I'll be quite confident about Boro's chances of at least automatic promotion
@@jamesmcdonough7025 We've also scored 9 more goals than Burnley and we scored like 18 goals in our last 5 games, yes we lost against Blackburn but the goal should have been offside
@@jensonp10 i understand what youre saying. But generally in recent history the top 2 might lose 6-8 all season. I dont see that changing this year. thats a hell of a run youll need. You wont beat Burnley and you have the,m twice this year

Does appear that way. Also 2-0 wins home and away are a good sign. A common scoreline for a winner of the league.
