Christian Edmonds hey Christian...checkout some of my strumming videos....once I learned to focus on timing more than patterns everything changed for me. Type in "Matt McCoy strumming" in the youtube search bar and let me know if any of those help you. You'll get where you just keep that 4 beat timing in your head and you can strum any song.
Hey country boy. I know aleast ten cords and can get to and from fine. my problem I'm having is strumming. is there any resources out there on the internet or do you have any videos that shows the strum pattern.... example d u udd d u ? There's a guy on youtube named Marty Schwartz he does a pretty good job. but he doesn't have all the songs I'm trying to learn. Any ideas
hey Dustin..strumming is always tricky,..i think i can help you. i'm uploading a video on strumming exercises now over on my acoustic selection youtube page. Check that out and let me know if this helps at all. Also type in Matt McCoy strumming in the youtube search bar to see all my videos on strumming.
Travis Messier Hey Matt, I have a hard time learning to sing to my guitar. I tend to accidentally change my strumming to match the lyrics of the song. I can't seem to figure it out. You do a great job and seem to naturally get it. Can you help?
Travis Messier i know what you mean Travis..i still struggle with that sometimes...that timing can be tricky. I think it's key to try and learn just very small parts of a song...take some simple song and maybe learn just the chorus where it's very easy for you to play...then once you've mastered the playing,...trying singing it (almost like singing and doing something with your eyes closed) it's like you have to pretend someone else is playing for you. I know this might sound weird at first but like you said, it is totally 2 separate things you are doing.
Travis Messier try playing and reading the lyrics to yourself while you play. Than try to say change every time you change chords. It can help disconnect your thoughts from your rhythm. Good luxk.
hey brother....tell me this...do you know the basic "big 4" chords that I teach ? G, C, Em and D....that's the key first step. Then it's all about focusing on the timing.
