Lovely bass for sure, but ultimately not for me. I was too scared to take it out to gigs after putting a little chip in the headstock. So it ended up only being played at home as was a bit wasted. So I sold it and bought another Fender.
@@SarahJonesBass Yeah, I totally understand. if I ever get one it will be just to play along with songs at home. Back in the day when I used to play in a band, every single time we had a gig something would happen to my bass or my amp or cabinets, a little scratch here, a stain there, etc. One time after the set was over I went to hang out and talk to friends and when I came back to the stage to take down my stuff my amp was missing one knob... I was "how did that happen?"... I think there was foul play on that one lol.
@@tonybp We're fiercely protective of our gear because its so expensive and we worked hard to afford it. Generally though, people are respectful and don't mess with out stuff anyway.... but there will always be one!

Thanks very much. It is (was) a lovely bass; I don't have it anymore though; I was too scared of damaging it to take it out to gigs, so it was just lying around the house not being used. Too good to waste, so I sold it.
Ma'am. Thank you for doing this.. I'm a new follower of your channel & i'm literally amazed at your skill for a woman of your age. Please keep up the good work. Love from India 🇮🇳
Well, I'm happy to have you as a new subscriber! A woman of my age?..... How old do you think I am?? I'm kidding, its true I'm not young anymore, but with all that age comes some experience too ;)
@@SarahJonesBass I think around 55. Don't get me wrong.. Women of that age in my country will have their life almost over or I mean to say they will be preparing for their old age. But you seem to be rocking. Please take it for a compliment. Nothing like you might have thought.. 😄
@@Citizenof-world Not bad!! I was actually 56 when I recorded this video, so you're a good judge of age. I'm not offended at all, my age is not a secret and I'm happy to have made it this far :)

I sing and play this one at the same time with my group. I like what you do a little better rhythmically and you're probably more correct than what I play, although notewise it sounds the same to me. You play very well. Thank you for sharing.
I just discovered you, you are an awesome player ! 😮 I hope one day I'll be able to play like you, or even just having a half of your talent will be great too Haha ! 😄
Thanks very much. I couldn't do such a review now because I don't have this bass anymore; I sold it to fund upgrades to newer instruments. The Ibanez SR range were my go-to basses for a couple of years, but as my finger joints have started to seize up I can't curl my fingers round the narrower neck so easily now. So I have moved on to Fender basses which are more comfortable and have all the tone I need.
This IS the way to play this I1m sure - with the D on the 10th fret of thr E string, it can all be done with less hand movement and move seamlessly up to the G on 10th fret of A. SO many vids on TH-cam start in the 5th fret A and then slide up which sounds very unnatural to me, a super job. This nailed it for me.
I guess it doesn't really matter where you play it, but my preference is up at the 'dusty end' of the fretboard, where most bass players never seem to venture. Playing higher up and on lower strings means your notes will have a thicker tone because you're on the lower strings. Also, it requires less effort up there because the frets are closer together, so you can cover more notes in a shorter time due to the reduced distance between frets. I'm basically a lazy creature, and I will always find the easiest way to do anything; maximum effect for minimum effort. Glad you enjoyed this too, thanks very much :)
Muito divertido tocar essa música. Todos os outros tocam mais abaixo no braço da guitarra, mas acho que tocar mais alto é mais fácil porque os trastes estão mais próximos.

As a fledgeling bass player: Is there a song, when you master it's bassline, you'd call yourself a half-skilled bass player? I was told: If you'd master Jigsaw puzzle blues on guitar aso...
No I don't think so. Its a continuous process, so you don't ever reach a point where you've arrived at a destination. Its more like an endless journey of discovery; there's always something new to learn. But you do gradually get more and more comfortable with your playing. It just takes time.
Yes its all by ear; I don't read music. I just break a song down into small chunks and learn those; then start putting the blocks together to build the song. Its a lot easier with modern technology, being able to slow a track down without altering the pitch and making it easier to study parts of a song.
