      @@skyjack2600 Not at all. I am one of those "stating my own opinion" guys.
      I understand why a very young person might call a four years career and three films "making it". I am not trying to belittle him. It's the same with music. Even if you got signed a ten million dollars contract with a big label, it only means you have potential. You are yet to prove worthy of the faith put in your abilities. Mr. Sandberg just made the first steps on the yellow break road. He did not make it to Emerald City yet. This is just my opinion.
      P.s., I don't understand what you mean by " this is not cinema". I assure you I hold no such opinion. If it's filmed it's cinema.

    "I use X. It's alright," is a critical antidote to amateur gear review videos on TH-cam. I don't blame the TH-camrs, but the glut of "best X of 2020" or "compare X version N to X version N+1" vids fetishizes equipment in a way that's counterproductive for artists. I happen to have Final Cut, and while many people that talk video software seem to prefer Premiere, I'm holding myself to a rule: use what I have until I know it well enough to know what advantage I would get from switching. I could have started with iMovie, and maybe I should have.

    My man, you have been a true inspiration. I worked in wildlife documentaries for the better part of my carreer and was seriously afraid to not be able to get back into scenic films... In the weird global turn of events in the last months I was forced to drop every project I was working on and head back to my home country, to sit out the pandemic... As with almost every media industry the tv and film industry is pretty much fucked over here, which is horrible of course, but it also gave me time to get truly back into what made me pick up the camera in the first place: films... Thank you so much for helping me get into the mindset of short films. I'm working on a short psychological horror flick with my girlfriend as the main actress. As you've said in your annabelle creation videos, use the tools that are around you. 😂🤙

    • @TheGamingSlate
      @TheGamingSlate 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Linkale_ used that for a while but it’s just a little more work to set everything up compared to a dedicated script software. Depending on the length of your script it can make a big difference. Generally a tv script can be anywhere from 30 to 45 pages and a film can be 100 to 200+ pages depending on amount of dialogue. In these cases it makes a big difference when it comes to saving time. If your doing smaller scripts you should be fine (skits, short film, etc). An easy and free option for your phone is celtx and it has a cloud and autosave feature for free. For your computer you should just look into the one that works best for your budget and meets your preferences. Goodluck 👍🏼

    Totally agree, that we use what we have, but desiring what we want for a certain style of work, is not bad either. Some actually make fun of you lightly, when you say, "I really want to buy that camera". They go like, "People are using iPhone now, you dont need that camera." And they go on with examples of people who made a certain film on just iPhone. Yes, I agree, but I've already used what I have, i want to get something specific for something and thats the part they dont get. If I have an idea i want to see on a certain type of video, i'll work on trying to get it and not waste the idea on an iPhone. Tarantino made a film using as many cameras as he could in one film, to serve his idea. No one told him, "Hey youre using some old cameras, people are really using the latest equipment, you know". And I think Tarantino would have kicked them in the balls. Twice.
    I mean, it's not about getting the latest equipment or old or anything at all, its about what you want to use and using how much much money you have, you can try to get close to it as possible, or wait til you have it. I think your video completely says using what you have, which i take as money and not equipment, because if you can afford it, you can get it, as long as it serves your idea and you dont necessarily have to use something just because it's the latest thing.

      what about cheap hardware store lights you can get with the round silver shades then buy some Costco High CRI LED bulbs and you're all set. a CRI of 90+ is important or your actors look green/yellow. The beauty of the LED bulbs is that they won't start a fire like your 800 and you can use parchment paper or bed sheets for diffusers. Or take your 800 and bounce it off a big piece of foam board that's far enough away to not heat up.

    "If you make something engaging enough no ones going to be thinking about which camera you used"
    I'd say the opposite is true, thus this video. If you make things engaging enough everyone will want to know what equipment you used so they can try and copy.
    I don't think enough people really understand that the engagement and quality of a film comes from the talent and creativity of the creator, not from the equipment.

    I also use Blender, Davinci Resolve and Fusion. Because i also hate subscription based software.
    PS: IMO Fairlight Noise Reduction is better than ReaFIR for cleaning up ambient noises.

    Ok. Master the tools you have available to you first. Professional equipment might also have a learning curve to operate it. I know how to shoot with my phone, I should push the limits of that tool and gain experience before upgrading. Thank you

    I use Gimp and it has great filters and effects. I have Blender too. I must admit and hold up both hands to having not making film for a while now, but plenty of music but Reason is kickass! I moved from Pro tools to Reaper and for $60 it's crazy good. I have 2 cheap 2.7k cameras, 2 Canon EOS Cameras, 4 action cams I got for £18 each, I use Rode knock off mics, Audio Technica condenser mics I have for recording live music and a set of clip on drum mics by Sure for live kit recordings. Great advice - new sub.
