    Having owned a 67' TR4A myself I can say without a doubt this a far more capable car than the MGB roadster. The TR just gushes torque. So much more fun to drive. There is a reason they were so successful on the track.

      Hi Matt, thanks for the comment🤗 it’s great to hear from TR4A enthusiasts. The car is great I see it every time I go to my dads and can’t help but get in each time. Do you own any other triumphs? I’m hoping to get a review done on my dads TR7 next. Also in red as that’s the only colours he will have lol. Thanks for chatting 🤗

      @@CarChatTV No Triumphs in the garage these days, sadly. I do have a convertible VW Beatle that is getting a new floor pan at the moment as well a Mini Cooper S that gives me that sports car fix when I need it. I would love to have my TR4A back.

    Excellent video. I do not like that it is lowered nor do I like TR6 wheels. Both those mods completely alter the dynamics of the car. Narrow tires make a TR4 much more agile, nimble and spirited. Of course, to each his own. Finally, I prefer wire wheels with eared knock off spinners. I am 70 years old. I hope to purchase my first Triumph TR4 in a week or so. I have waited since 1969 to acquure one. Guy in Columbia Mississippi

    I have owned my 67 TR4A IRS for about 15 years. Why did the owner take off the rear bumper? I put a Toyota 5 speed gear box. You get used to the steering.

      Thanks for the comment. It’s always great to hear from triumph TR4A owners. My dad took off the bumpers to make it look more sporty. He thinks they look better with them off. Beautiful car. It still sits in his garage in immaculate condition. He also have a TR8 which sounds amazing that I’m waiting to review. Needs a bit of work that one though. Thanks for chatting 🤗

    This guy makes driving a TR4A sound like driving a Mack truck.....which is a total absurdity. I bought and owned and very happily drove a 1963 BRG TR4 back in the day. It was O/D and wire wheel equipped and was a thorough pleasure to drive. It constantly intrigues me how 'appraisers' like Rowland gloss over the O/D fun quotient, which was a big part of the drive experience for me. On top of all this, Rowland insists upon comparing the TR with the MG Midget! Please! Oh, and by the way, he says the dimmer switch on the floor causes him to have to take his foot off the clutch pedal to dim the headlights....there's an admission by someone who obviously 'rides' his clutch. There are many drivers today who would kill to see dimmer switches relocated to the floor where they belong!

    • @CarChatTV
      @CarChatTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Glenn, thanks for your comment. It definitely is a very special car. The OD does add another element to the drive of the car. What cars would you compare the TR4A too? Do you own a triumph at the moment?

    • @glennlaw319
      @glennlaw319 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CarChatTV There was something of an art to accelerating the TR hard through the entire available 7 speeds, which required quick and deft flicking on and off of that very conveniently mounted O/D stalk through the process. And one had to respect the lack of transmission load by using the clutch when inputting overdrive on the overrun in order to avoid a naughty thump as the engine and transmission revs came into alignment. I've owned two TR6s since the TR4....one a 1969 Australian delivered Lucas Injection model, and the other a 72 US delivered twin Stromberg carby model. I restored and resold the 69 and resold the 72 without doing the intended RHD conversion....family issues. I love these cars, and actually worked as a Standard Triumph salesman in Brisbane for a period in 1963 before a career move, which didn't stop me buying my treasured TR4 early in 1964. I competed with the car and have club competition records and a photo or two if you offer a facility to upload such material.... I enjoy your site, and apologize if I was a tad harsh on Rowland.

    • @CarChatTV
      @CarChatTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah wow sounds like you have had great experiences with them and a salesmen too, impressive. I’m hoping to review Rowlands TR7 next it just needs a bit of work before we can take it out. But I owned a green model TR7 when I was younger and have always been keen to have a go in a real one. Fingers crossed that will be coming soon! I love how classic owners are so passionate 🤗

      @@CarChatTV Great stuff.....I hope you enjoy your time with the TR7, although back in the day the crusty old pre-TR7 fraternity tended to look down a little on that radically revised
      model...much to do with the return to a live rear axle and a four cylinder motor. Cheers all......

    I have owned a '66 TR4A for 49 years. It's much more beefy than the MGB ( I also had an MGBGT for ten of those years - a little less draughty in the winter!) and more fun to drive. I've driven the Big Healy, but, while beautiful, it's a bit of a pig to drive, and comes from an earlier era, more like the similarly beautiful XK120.
    I'm still driving the 4A and loving it, although I now have a '96 Jag XK8 for the winter months!

      @@CarChatTV My pleasure. Long ago a buddy had a TR4A. He gave me rides I'll always remember. It had 150 horsepower, and was "British Racing Green" with a white racing stripe. Then there was his Austin Healy 3000. First gear was shot in it, but he took off in second like it was first. And who can forget the bug eye Sprite? A Go-Kart with a body. • @zepm7184
      @zepm7184 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Based on the roof folding up and not stored in the trunk I would say it is a 4A. The IRS is a dead giveaway as well unless it is just a badge.

    • @glennlaw319
      @glennlaw319 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It looks like a TR4 only by the absence of the 4A's chrome side trims that incorporate turn blinkers at the front of each....these have obviously been removed, along with the front and rear bumpers. Many other 4A features confirm it is a 4A. For example this bonnet badge is the circular 'world' design rather than the earlier shield shape. This grille is comprised of horizontal bars instead of the 4's cross hatch design. And of course the rear badges confirm it as a TR4A with that model's independent rear suspension, which surely the lovely Rowland confirmed, not by trying to bounce the car with his hand, but rather with a simple peek under the car's back end!
