I think some blame goes all around. First and foremost the sound guys were not doing these musicians any favors however, a pro can communicate with sound people and get the problem fixed without the crowd even knowing it’s going on. Physically turning around and flailing your arms and not playing a note is the absolute wrong way to fix the problem. This drummer is a beast. I would’ve loved to play with someone who could destroy a drum set like this. He’s a talented dude.
Thats right, when I used to play in a band I would make sure during brand practice to tell everyone that if anyone messes up, everyone else keep going and they will catch up later becuse as long as everyone keeps playing and stays in time, you can recover and most people wouldnt even notice the mess up. If everyone stays tight, the person who messed up can jump right back in. If everyone stops because of one person then the whole band looks like unprofessional jackasses, lol
Agreed. Sometimes we show up as an opening band but are told that we can’t get a soundcheck. I know that happens a lot here in Nashville. Most of the time it’s due to the headline act taking too long to setup. Drummer is killing it here.
The problem here is that the sound men are trying to be on stage during the performance. Sure they have an excuse. They want to be the center of attention because they're going to fix the speaker that isn't working properly. But there is a point of realizing that you are wrecking the performance by trying to get one more speaker working that you don't really need. "But it's my job!' No! Your job is to do what's best for the performance. The musicians kept trying to tell them, leave it! It's not important! Just leave it! We're in the middle of a performance here! WTH! The musicians were trying to tell them to leave it alone. All they were doing was distracting the musicians and detracting from the performance. A good sound man might quickly check a connection to make sure it's plugged in. But they are not going to spend an entire song climbing around equipment and in between drum cymbals. I'm sure this band had a band meeting and they discussed this problem. And I'm sure that lessons were learned. Because this is part of a journey for each individual. For one it might be to learn self control and to not get angry at idiots. For another it might be to let a problem go and not take it personally as a failure of their own self-esteem. It's always about the life lessons and the separate journeys which are joined as one journey.
Good conversation to have for musicians and engineers, but not during the gig -- either rehearsal or sound check as stated in other comments. Great job brothers.
I play drums at my church, this past Sunday, my in ear mix went haywire during invitation at the end of the service. Had all bass and lead guitar, no vocals. Between beats, I took out my in ears and just played to the movement of the lady singing "my wife". Which is tough because by the time she would sing into the mic, the sound has to travel from the speakers to the back wall and then back to my ears, I would be playing almost behind the beat. I had to play to the movement of her mouth as she was singing. Luckily, I'm pretty familiar with our songs.
I’ve had that happen a couple of times. Now I make sure that I can always see the keyboard player’s left hand and the lead guitar player’s strumming elbow. Between those two, I can always find the downbeat at the beginning of a measure. From there, it’s just a matter of counting and trying as hard as possible to be a human metronome. But you make the most important point: Know your music.

But this cat That drumming here, really seems to be keeping everyone in the pocket really well!

Anyone notice how they looked mad and then they were smiling? I think it is their culture. In America, I think it is different. One thing for sure, the drummer is going to find something to adjust to look cool. Always.
"Mr. Christian!"(In my best Capt. Bligh voice parody). I agree. We both have same number of yrs. of experience under our belts and I agree with your assessment. As having a sound crew. Nope. We were our own sound crew and did our own sound checks as well, reason being that we wanted our PA setups and adjustments done right the 1st time recheck everything as needed DURING THE SOUND CHECK.
It's nerve wracking. Especially if it messes you up. But, there's no reason to go crazy. Except the time we did a kinda rushed showcase for some labels. Opening for a bigger band on tour. Worked out the stage sound. We came up to play and all new people for some reason. Asking politely. Total attitude. It was horrendous. This new tour manager was like "keep it moving I knew nothing about...". It got ugly. Labels to see us. Our management flew from NYC to LA...
Guitarists! 🤦🏾♂️ too distracted most of the time… Drummers are always fidgeting… 🤷🏾♂️ The technicians/sound team?! Sometimes I don’t know what to say 🤨 The bass player 😎 FOCUSED!!!
It's difficult when ur monitor system is not right it's not easy to keep banging when u cannot hear yourself..Superb drumming,This is not attitude but see the way he ENJOYS his job..that's a gift from God.
A amateur band I was playing in,their sound check attitude was ‘set and forget’,no set list,no scheduled band practice,no sound man,no organisation, everything was ‘off the fly’ and they didn’t want to make things better for the band. But they wanted the gigs 🤨.That is why I left.
The funny part is that this drummer has been supplied with a digital monitor mixer which he can use to get his best mix. He doesn’t need to be asking anyone to help him
Yeah it's like they need too many accommodations to be able to play. Man just plug in and play. All the details should have been worked out in rehearsals, which we don't know if it is one or not.
Am a drummer, guitarist and at times a lead vocal. very many factors can be reason as to why such behavior usually occurs amongst musicians. 1) pride ------- sound engineers, instrumentalists 2) in ear monitors can irritate when you have undisciplined sound team. at some songs the cut off all vocals from your monitoring system, or increase one instrument to loud for ears,...bad sound affects how well you will play an instrument. 3) no sound check.....sound checks have to be done thoroughly, settle all mixes for different monitoring systems and general sound then the volumes taped. 4)technical glitches...some times churches don't want to invest on modern instruments so u find some cabling just shut down in the middle of praise rallies. 5) Celebrity sound reinforcement teams...some individuals on the control knobs (sound mixer) have their own preferences, some prefer other instruments over others
Any sound engineer that does monitors for musicians have to a people person, he needs to be friendly and constantly active in eyeing the musicians incase they need something.
some people are lashing out on the musicians but I believe had the sound engineers done a great job (before the service began) they wouldn't have to keep making these much changes as the musicians did their thing! I have done music for quite a while enough to know timely preparation and sound checks save the whole team (both musicians and sound techs)
Yeah it’s no fun when things go south on stage. Playing worship in front of a large crowd takes a certain type of character, it’s not about us (the musicians) anyway. This morning I showed up at church and the electronic snare wouldn’t trigger, but having 35+years on the road I just went with the flow, took the snare away, quickly put the rack tom in its place and kept right on playing with a smile. Just stay calm, act professional, have mercy, grace and keep the focus on what the worship is all about…Jesus Christ God will bless the rest. When things go crazy or a sour note it played, people usually don’t even notice or remember it, even if everyone on stage does! That’s because God graces over it, abs when He does, we call that the Holy Spirit auto tune
Those licks from the guitarist are phenomenal
Man, I couldn’t wear that watch and drum. This guy Rips!!! Excellent
this is why you come to sound check so the sound could be checked and you won't have this kind of trouble during service.

That was a good captain bligh Bligh impression! 👏👌👍
Mk red oo🤣🤣. All dese engineers sef
So annoying
@@mkstixx u for wipe am stick boss😂😂😂

I do this for a living... Iove this
That drummer is incredibly tight.
Wow!
That groove, man. It is solid stuff. Intro was tight!

I'm glad I watched this video because dude is a beast and I never played Jamaican music but I see I need to start to learn different licks
There is nothing Jamaican about this video 😂
not Jamaican
Nigerian! Common!
@@JamesThompson97 lol my mans said Jamaican music😂
@@JamesThompson97 hahahaha
I can not fault the musicians here. They played right through those difficulties extremely well.
Seems to me the "roadies" are the problem here, aggravating the musisicians with moving things around them while they are playing.
this is fire bishop.....
Mightily impressed given everything that was happening around the drummer. A consummate professional and talent.
Tight and clean drumming!!!
The importance of a GOOD Sound Check.
Respect the drummer, he’s amazing! switch your spot and don’t complain making it obvious or use headphones.
Our management flew from NYC to LA...
very good, i'm brazilian, i'm a drummer and i'm using a translator to talk to you
Hey man how are you and Brazil 🇧🇷
Killer lick in the beginning!!
Guitarists! 🤦🏾♂️ too distracted most of the time…
Drummers are always fidgeting… 🤷🏾♂️
The technicians/sound team?! Sometimes I don’t know what to say 🤨
The bass player 😎 FOCUSED!!!
It's difficult when ur monitor system is not right it's not easy to keep banging when u cannot hear yourself..Superb drumming,This is not attitude but see the way he ENJOYS his job..that's a gift from God.
Or simply practice
@@BxCortez2050 You gotta love what you're doing
A amateur band I was playing in,their sound check attitude was ‘set and forget’,no set list,no scheduled band practice,no sound man,no organisation, everything was ‘off the fly’ and they didn’t want to make things better for the band. But they wanted the gigs 🤨.That is why I left.
Yikes! Completely understandable, bro.
I would’ve thrown stick at bros sef 😂😂😂😂
🤣
Loving whole the groove! Amazing experience✌️🇰🇿
Love the music. Things happen to throw people off. But keep it going. Thanks for the music.
Sometimes shit just breaks 🤷🏻♂️
The funny part is that this drummer has been supplied with a digital monitor mixer which he can use to get his best mix. He doesn’t need to be asking anyone to help him
my own experience, in my country the problem was always the sound man.
The 🥁 drummer is awesome.. There is nothing like African gospel music. You are a great GOD. Hallelujah, amen
But anyway I love your drumming be blessed ma brother
Drums on point!
Where can I get the name of this mix. In order to download it.
What is anyone doing they shouldn't? I don't get it. Sounds good, mixed well, played great, I don't see anything wrong!?
It’s clickbait to get people to watch the video
Sounds good because the drummer is a good drummer but if you could hear there's some people that aren't in time in the back round
@@eldotjay nope its nt watch again cafulllly....it might allso be u dnt notice because the drummer is so goood
1) pride ------- sound engineers, instrumentalists
2) in ear monitors can irritate when you have undisciplined sound team. at some songs the cut off all vocals from your monitoring system, or increase one instrument to loud for ears,...bad sound affects how well you will play an instrument.
Excellent drumming 👏👏.
Thanks
Still has some great chops
some people are lashing out on the musicians but I believe had the sound engineers done a great job (before the service began) they wouldn't have to keep making these much changes as the musicians did their thing! I have done music for quite a while enough to know timely preparation and sound checks save the whole team (both musicians and sound techs)
Drummer is exceptionally skilled. 🤙
I remember the days when in-the-ear monitors didn't exist and somehow we always made it work
Agreed. Kinda like this guy right here. Monitor isn’t working. Make it work.
Just stay calm, act professional, have mercy, grace and keep the focus on what the worship is all about…Jesus Christ
God will bless the rest. When things go crazy or a sour note it played, people usually don’t even notice or remember it, even if everyone on stage does! That’s because God graces over it, abs when He does, we call that the Holy Spirit auto tune
Yeah. Drummers especially.
So this actually happened during service🤣🤣😂😂😂
that's why you do sound check! and be on time!
They are smoking that groove. Great clean drumming- yeah, maybe toned down the pissed staged antics. It sounded great. Thx. d
Awesome groove 👌
amazing musicians! wow I'm very impressed
Either way yall killing bro
