Anytime I listen to Jazz pianists I have a mix of amazement and sadness. Amazed at their unbelievable ideas and technical ability, sad that I can't do it.

Wonderful pianism! But where has this intensely irritating and now nearly universal custom come from of audiences applauding when a main theme is introduced after a musical introduction? It seems like audiences want to convey to everyone that they recognise a popular theme when they hear one! Childish, and it mars the music!

Shut the fuck up, you could say your intent to make jazz like classical music where everyone gets to applaud at very specific times is also irritating, let people enjoy the music.

I see nothing wrong with applause or your opinion. I think of ALL art as communication and Jazz is no exception. Sullivan Fortner is talking to us and he's having fun. When we figure out what he's doing we express our approval. It's wonderful that we can share each others' joy. Let's all relax and be ready to LAUGH because there's humor here too.

Just listen to the applauses on Concert by the sea by Erroll Garner. People like to hear themes.
