Great video, Elderberries are so easy, easier than a fig to propagate, probably tied with Goji Berry in rooting vigor, just stick 'em in the ground and watch 'em rock. BTW your sheep and doggo are super cute!
I've always wanted an elderberry bush. This spring I found two have came up in our yard. Thank you birds💜 I plan on propagating them and increasing the blessing.
I've managed to get elderberry to grow in South Texas which is in and of itself a feat. They also held up to goat pressure pretty well in my very limited experience. Beautiful plant over all. Thanks as always for informative content!
Elderberries are good if you can convince people to buy cuttings from you. The end markets for the berries are currently saturated with elderberry product. Talk to folks at the agroforestry focused centers like at University of Missouri, or at Savanna Institute. They do serve more than just as fruit production though. They’re great for pollinators and the flowers are saleable.
Very cool! You are turning that spot into an area of high productivity. You know, the more of that kind of stuff you accomplish on your farm, the less chance I'll ever have of getting you to move up my way.
I’ve had success selling the wild foraged berries. I don’t have to do the work of making products. Tons of people can make their own, it’s so easy. I can get $10-$15 for a 12 oz bag of berries.
I hope you do a follow up video of these plants in a year so we all get a good idea of what can happen in such a short time. Great video 👍 You have a new subscriber 😜
The property is coming along so nicely! We’ve got ground that I could do something similar with. The electric auger is the ticket! Do any other plants come to mind that can be started with cuttings the break of spring?
I usually always find them in a more open area like a roadside or near a creek and they are very easy to find right now when the white flowers are out it’s like a beacon for foragers, I’ve found 5-6 new plants this week alone
Glad I came across your video, we have also had an unseasonably warm February and the elder is starting to leaf out. I wasn't sure if I'd missed the boat because I'd always planted dormant cuttings until now and wasn't sure if cuttings that had already leafed would struggle, but you know what, I will just go ahead anyway having seen you do it :)
@@NaturesAlwaysRight I tried this a few days ago, hydrated the cuttings well and then stuck them in the ground, my first impression isn't great, we have a warm climate and to add to this, this spring has been unseasonably warm, and it seems to me that they are going to dehydrate. Your mileage will probably be different in a cooler, moister climate, and I would need to keep watering them and maybe keep them covered with something, which I can't do, no time. We'll see, though, I haven't checked them in a few days, maybe they surprise me, but I seem to be the only person in the world who doesn't have a lot of luck with elder, lol .
I am super excited to learn more about that- I had never even heard of it until your Seedtime webinar with Paul. Is there a book you could recommend on it? @@NaturesAlwaysRight
@@TheErrantLeaf I’m in southern Missouri. Not too far. I also have tons of cuttings that are sprouting and leafing out. You are welcome to them if you come and get ‘em or pay the shipping
I think it was 2021 or maybe 2020. I tried my best to grow elderberries from cuttings I’d bought on Etsy. Bought from several sources, soaked the cuttings, used growth hormones, and couldn’t get those suckers to grow for anything. I appreciate that this vid gives me some ideas of what to look for if I decide to try again.
It's known to boost the immune system and is commonly made into Elderberry Syrup, you can also buy kits online with other herbs such as nettles etc. Make sure to use RAW honey mixed in at the end when it's cooled and consume within 1 month.
Steven, I'd love to buy some of those cuttings, if you'll ship them to me in Colorado. By the way, I checked your website first, to see if I could find a link to buy them. I'll offer an edit to your front page: there's a misspelling in the name of your site, at the top left of the main page, its says "Nature's Alway_ Right" Here's a method of identifying the top and bottom of cuttings: When I make cuttings, I always cut the bottoms at a 45 degree angle, and I leave the top of the cutting at 90 degrees. Theoretically, the angled cutting at the bottom offers more surface area for the cutting to absorb water.
I wish it will be such a big request in Italy at least for the plant, they don't know the uses of this plant, that flowers and berries are edible...I've made cuttings for myself and I want desperately one with this very dark purple to black leafs 💚
I love your username! Poopdude would be fitting for me too. I'm the king of compost, because my horses produce two wheelbarrows full of poop everyday. I built a composting area midway between the barn and the garden, and I have a constant flow of poop from one end of the barnyard to the other!
@@tedpreston4155 lol. The username is from when I was young and dumb. But I guess it applies, in a different way, today. That's funny. Our poo fertility program is based mostly on a pet rabbit and several chickens, for the time being. Maybe some day we can get sheep or beeves if we ever manage to get to bigger property.

Not a lot of foliage out right now but I know that I've got some elderberry growing in my woods somewhere. I'll have to go look for them!

Just did one bush last week & one more to go as soon as snow melts some. Got one bucket full 👍👍🤪

What are the uses and benefits of elderberry?
Highly medicinal after processing

I'm an idiot, I just bought 10 elder bush saplings. I have 3 fully grown elder bushes already and didn't realise you could propagate them like this.
I figured you can’t ever have enough 😊you can always try selling it like he said and make your money back and then some.
