Interesting method. I've been absolutely obsessed with moss lately and have recently come across new methods with yours being one that I must try considering my failures. Thanks for this information.
Thank you. I think it gives you a surface layer that protects the soil and holds in moisture while still allowing water to easily pass through. I'm talking when you initially apply it of course over time as it develops you will end up with a layer that's very much like a chunk of moss you just slaped on top. Then of course it will be time to repot or resurface the pot at least.
@@beardedbonsai good points. I find that any moss on top, whether chunk or newly applied particulate style, makes it much easier to water than having bare soil. Of course it could be that my soil jic doesn’t drain very well, but that’s a whole different story!
I find moss that is already growing in sunlight works the best when just adding to a bonsai pot. More recently I've started doing it the way you're doing it here.
This method was shown to me and I have found it to work the best for me. As you said the moss I have been using grows in near full sun on a soil free surface.

I enjoy watching your videos Vince
Thanks for watching
Good stuff. I often do the ol “grab a patch and stick it” technique, but I’m sure this gives you a much more consistent result over time.

Great video. Why not in a blender?
Thanks for your time and expertise! What is the mesh size of your chicken wire? Thanks 🙏
Thank you. I use 1/4 inch galvanized steel mesh.

@@beardedbonsai I first saw this technique 5-6 years ago on the Me-Ka Bonsai channel. Are you familar with him?
@@michaelcowart6100 I am not but I will check it out. I think the first time I saw it was Ryan Neil.
