Hey all, thanks for watching our latest episode! This was a last minute project and I couldn't be happier with the outcome! I hope you boys and gals all like it. Please leave any feedbacks, both good and bad, so we know what you'd like to see in the future! Thank you!! ;)
Thanks for making this!!! I was super excited to see a new one from you guys!! lately I have been watching fly t.v. with Daniel Burgman. They do most of their fishing in Sweeden. Worth a look. The flies and tactics they use are very unique. But dont worry. Yours is still one of my fav channels. I like the new style of presenting by the way. Sortof a storry telling feel. Keep it up you guys!!
What an awesome video. I’ve been going to Fernie for the last 8 years every summer. I recognized many spots you guys fished. Truly one of if not the best place in bc for flyfishers.
Superb, great to see you both have your " mojo " back and are enjoying the fishing again. It must be hard work producing such a high quality film and being away from family too. You're both real fishers, have that enthusiasm and childlike quality when the fish are on! Makes us all feel young a good days fishing. Also, the pieces to camera - it feels like you are both addressing the viewer personally, very natural. Thanks again - keep up the great work.
It's remarkable how big and beautiful westslope cutthroat can be. I live on the other side of the Continental Divide where I landed an older male last week that pulled me about 30 feet downstream. When I finally got him in my net, he looked like Christmas because his back so grey it looked almost green, and the big crimson slash under his throat ran all the way down his belly. Great video!Next time you're in the Rockies when it isn't so close to spawning season, don't be afraid to tie on the absolute biggest streamer you have. Some of the bull trout in the area are so large you'd almost guess they were searun.
Wow. You guys are great storytellers. You have lots of great footage covering aerial, eye level, background, below water, behind the scene, interviews, audio that we can understand. It almost seem like you have a story board that you are following, a shot list, A roll, B roll, fillers, and a camera man... or two that's following you around. I wouldn't be surprised if these places you go visit use your videos as advertisement for their fishing holes. Brilliant. Absolutely brilliant.
Nice video. No need for waders that time of year, just boots. Lots of good trib fishing in the area too. I know of a great Cutty stream feeds into the Columbia farther north of Fernie.
Rod thanks to your tips I had a life time experience battling Chinook salmon and boy! Well I didn't land it i had fun! Thanks Rod! 😊😊 I'm from Michigan fishing the great lakes.
Yep! All of those streams between Sparwood and Fort Steele are excellent! It's good as it spreads out the fishing pressure and you can always find a stretch to yourself on any given day. :)
fishy sensors, lol!!! sometimes the spots we think there should be fish are totally empty. we think we know where they are but these fish are so unpredictable at times. but as always gorgeous vid
Thanks! We were using Islander IR1 reels, which are spooled with Scientific Angler 3wt MPX floating lines. A few rods were used. Gloomis Pro4X, Sage TXL...
Great, enjoyable videos! Will be visiting Fernie in the late spring and was doing some googling and found your channel (and subscribed). Definitely going to bring my fly rod now and try my luck.
Thanks! In late spring, some of the rivers (where we fished in the video) will likely to be too high due to snow melt but you should still be able to find many places to try out that will be productive. Good luck!
This year it hasn't been that bad at this river system. Only the evenings were a bit unbearable. Other river systems have been worse. It really differs from year to year.
yeah. felt is much better than rubber lug soles. The traction on slimy, algae covered rocks is unmatched. Unfortunately, felt soles are slowly being phased out and straight up banned in many areas and/or water systems becuase biologists believe they transport micro organisms between bodies of water. I have a pair of felt G3's up in AK that i can no longer use, i believe they were banned, state wide 4 years ago. they were the first to do it.
your editing is boss man....this is like professional material...new sub looking forward to watching more of your videos....your talent has a fan in Chuckey Tn.
Apart from your fishing licence, so you need a permit to fish these rivers?I'm planning a trip to the Rockies next year and this is at the top of my list. If you ever take a trip to Scotland, let me know, i'd be delighted to get you on some fish.
Hi Dave, the Elk River system is "classified water" so you'd need to purchase a classified water conservation surcharge to fish it. The money from this surcharge goes to an organization called Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation, which is a funding agency and provides financial support on conservation projects like research, habitat restoration and angling access/infrastructure improvement. Thanks for the offer on Scotland! One day!
That’s too bad about the increased non-resident surcharge. Hopefully you can enjoy it again one day. I know Southern Alberta also has some fantastic fisheries like what Fernie offers.
Beautifully shot, however, I do wish that it showed more raw fishing instead of a documentary style of video. I miss when these videos were based solely around the act of fishing. Still enjoy your videos, but wish they would feel less like commercials and more like a bunch of people having fun on the water. Just my thoughts. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for that feedback! :) We've spent literally hours having this same discussion actually, because it's important for me to know what my viewers like to see. We chose this style for this particular episode because the story telling made it a lot easier for me to stitch the story of our trip together. I wanted to have a more professional feel to it and see what people think. Rest assure though that it's not the only route we are going with. We'll be bouncing back and forth, so expect to see more videos like the ones we did before too. :)
Rod, What a Great Place to go, and catch those cutties , and Forgive me I don't know your girlfriends name, but you are One Lucky Man, she is Gorgeous Adorable, and She can Fish, She is Perfect, Mr Lucky.....Happy Birthday to your partner 🎂🎉🎣🎣🎉🎂👍🙀👍
Really enjoyed watching your trip. Isn't it great having a spouse who shares the same passion? My wife and I met in Death Valley, of all places, during a photo workshop and have taken countless photos together. You can see our photos at gcropserphotography.com. See you on the river!

Thank you Richard, really appreciate those words. :)

Thanks! We look forward to going back one day!
Nice Cutthroat Trout Kitty & Rod. I've been through that area of Elk River back in 1990. I was headed to the Bow River in Calgary Alberta.
I love the colors in this video. What a beautiful place- so peaceful and full of trout!
Thank you for watching! I'm glad you enjoyed it. :)
that reaction to the splash was priceless, lol!!!! too frickin funny!!!
Ninja reflex! ;)
Beautiful video as usual Rod and Kitty, a real pleasure to watch. Beats most if not all of the fishing shows on TV! Awesome cutthroat trout guys.
Thank you! :)

Thanks! :) An episode like this indeed takes fair amount of time to plan out.
Nice video.
No need for waders that time of year, just boots. Lots of good trib fishing in the area too.
I know of a great Cutty stream feeds into the Columbia farther north of Fernie.
Awesome, guys. Good editing and even better fishing. Thanks for bringing us along! Look forward to the next adventure!
Thanks! :)
Real Trout Fishing the way it should be . Beautiful and clean and a lot of fish .
Fantastic! Great footage and information. I really enjoy your work Rod. You and Kitty just knocked this one right out of the park. Great work!
Thank you! :)
Hello great video those fish so beautiful question are you allowed to use spinners there and or bait fish that river
Every river system has its own regulations here so best to check them individually. Thanks for watching!
Did you need a classified waters license where you were
I have watched all your videos and this is definitely the best one! It's very obviously a lot of work has been put into making this. Good job guys!
Thanks Kevin! :)
I wish more people would have this kind of good fish handling etiquette
Thanks. We do our best.
It was definitely a beaver at the beginning of the video! Great video as usual Rod & Kitty.
wow can't wait to round up the buddies and make a trip up there! Great video showcasing Fernie.
Very well composed guys!!! Keep up the good work!!!
Thank you! :)
Great presentation, really enjoyed this, guys...Thanks!
Thanks for watching! :)
Gorgeous fish and almost perfect scenery, I'm so jealous! Excellent video, guys!
Thanks Phil!
Hey rod what fly rods do you use? Maybe you should do a gear talk for this video?
Great video, thank you. What backpack was Kitty using and did she carry bear spray?
Thanks. Yep both of us were carrying bear sprays. The backpack is actually mine, just an old one bought many years ago from MEC.
Rod thanks to your tips I had a life time experience battling Chinook salmon and boy! Well I didn't land it i had fun! Thanks Rod! 😊😊 I'm from Michigan fishing the great lakes.
Awesome vid! Looks like sooo much fun! Im going there next summer
It's an awesome place to spend at least a week in the summer! :)
For sure, im planning on going for about a week and a half or two! Have you ever fished the elk around Sparwood or just stayed in the Fernie area?
Yep! All of those streams between Sparwood and Fort Steele are excellent! It's good as it spreads out the fishing pressure and you can always find a stretch to yourself on any given day. :)
Fun episode, guys 🙂👍
Hi there! I just subscribed cause i love fishing and i also live in Vancouver. I want to learn from you! :) More videos to come please!
Thanks! More will be coming!
Was that a beaver? 😂
beaver, you can see it swin up and slap its tail if you pause it just right
Realistic Fishing it was a beaver. I've had the same thing happen to me several times
I have had that happen many times... but I never jumped out of my pants lol. At least he was in the water to rinse himself off 💩. 😆
What weight rods and reels were toy guys using ? Looks like a dream trip, and a really special place to go.🎣🎣😜✌️
Zane Tibet 3wt is what we use for these fish. There are bigger streams in the region where we use 4 or 5 wts.
Beautifully done. Loved it! Thank you!
Thank you!
fishy sensors, lol!!! sometimes the spots we think there should be fish are totally empty. we think we know where they are but these fish are so unpredictable at times. but as always gorgeous vid
Thanks!! :)
awesome video!!! well done. would you mind sharing rod and reel model used?
Thanks and keep it up with the fishing adventures.

Great video as always!
Thanks!
I thoroughly enjoyed this video..thanks..
That beginning was epic!
Haha yes! Thanks for watching. :)
Are there no mosquitoes there? In Sweden, they had sucked you dry if you went out in shorts and t-shirts :P
This year it hasn't been that bad at this river system. Only the evenings were a bit unbearable. Other river systems have been worse. It really differs from year to year.
Do you prefer/wear felt or rubber soled wading boots?
Having tried both in the last few years, I must say felt remains my favourite.
yeah. felt is much better than rubber lug soles. The traction on slimy, algae covered rocks is unmatched. Unfortunately, felt soles are slowly being phased out and straight up banned in many areas and/or water systems becuase biologists believe they transport micro organisms between bodies of water. I have great memories of fishing Fernie/Sparwood back before non-residents became a cash cow for BC government. I stick to Ab now.
That’s too bad about the increased non-resident surcharge. Hopefully you can enjoy it again one day. I know Southern Alberta also has some fantastic fisheries like what Fernie offers.
Beaver have the ability to startle anyone!
The flap is scary!
Great video! You guys should go after some bullies next time
For sure! Thanks for watching. :)
0:08: last I knew bull trout do not slap the water with their tail. Just saying.
It was a beaver
great video. thanks. it was a beaver :)
Thanks for watching! I like to still think it's a 30lb bull trout. 😆
haha intro is epic
Doing my beaver dance. :)

Zane Tibet Thanks, but Kitty is not my girlfriend. She's a good friend and my co-host in these videos you see, and both of us are married to others.
Fishing with Rod Thanks. For your reply and you guys make great videos, and of course in beautiful rivers. TightLines and Thanks Again.
Thanks for watching! :)
Really enjoyed watching your trip. Isn't it great having a spouse who shares the same passion? My wife and I met in Death Valley, of all places, during a photo workshop and have taken countless photos together. You can see our photos at gcropserphotography.com. See you on the river!
Thanks! We're actually not a couple. We just enjoy producing these episodes together and sharing them with our audience.
I wish my girlfriend would go fishing with me!
I wish mine wouldn't.
Dope video bro! Checkout my latest, I could use some feedback!
