Hey there all you sensational subs how are you all today? I love a good motor meltdown and this one is no exception, it is great. Sent by a local subscriber who thought it would be interesting to see me meltdown my 1st pink motor. Obviously they painted it before they sent it but that’s okay the furnace doesn’t care and will melt anything I chuck in there. So sit back relax and I hope you enjoy today’s longer video😁👍🏻
About 30 years ago now, my dad worked for a cast-iron foundry that did a lot of the prototyping for local businesses. They used a furnace that could hold 3.5 tons of molten iron at once, though it could usually only melt around a half ton per hour. When they had full production running, they'd leave iron in the furnace overnight with a watch crew to keep it from going completely pear shaped. The crew couldn't foresee the iron burning through the insufficiently thick asbestos based liner, several inches of concrete and into the 60F water line that served to keep the area outside the furnace somewhat less hellish than the inside. It burned through near the bottom of the crucible. The resultant steam explosion sent a ball of molten iron through a 40ft ceiling and back down onto the furnace deck. Dad got put back on maintenance and worked double shifts for nearly a year to get that all back together again. 25 or so years ago, when I worked there a couple of summers, the foot thick steel furnace deck was still warped several inches out of flat.
