I was one of them.i saw the band on an open air festival and the drummer fascinated me.He was so perfect in hitting the cymbals on "gouge away", the pixies definitely influenced me of picking instruments like bass, guitars and drums and just play them cause they looked like people like you and me standing on the stage having a gig. Every year now you plug in the tube and another rock god dies. This monkey is gone to heaven. Amen.

I love his mixture of clean singing and screaming which really influenced so many bands that followed in genres like post-hardcore, emo, and as everyone knows grunge. Him and Chris Simpson of the band Mineral are kind of the pinnacle of the mid-tenor in rock music to me.

I remember when this played on TV clear as day 35 years later. I had heard of the band but had not actually heard them. This song triggered one of the greatest love affairs of my life. I still recall the thrill of "Rock me Joey" at 1:41 then that gorgeous interplay of the twin guitars after the short solo, then being mesmerized at 2:07 when he is holding the chord shapes and he doesn't strum but you can still hear the faint chord ringing...still so amazing all these years later.

My boss has played this in the kitchen at work a few times and it always hit but I never asked what it was. Once I found it I could not take it off repeat. Screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs and letting the song rock my soul. Absolutely legendary piece of art right here

This is what Frank Black looked like when I first read about Pixies in the pages of Thrasher in 1989. That was my introduction to Pixies - I saw what they looked like and read about them before ever hearing their music.

It's fascinating that this doesn't really happen anymore now. Happened to me with lots of bands and no record store near, and no web access yet. Also, I've read that Talking Heads heard about Joy Division while they were in the studio (on an island), but didn't actually HEAR them as they couldn't buy the JD album, still the sound they imagined that band to have inspired their "Fear of Music" album.

the rock n roll hall of fame is "fake" anyways. it means nothing. its just a tourist trap in Ohio. The group that decides who gets inducted aren't even musicians, they're businessmen that occasionally take bribes.
