I was one of them.i saw the band on an open air festival and the drummer fascinated me.He was so perfect in hitting the cymbals on "gouge away", the pixies definitely influenced me of picking instruments like bass, guitars and drums and just play them cause they looked like people like you and me standing on the stage having a gig. They aren't under appreciated at all...so many famous and amazing artists consistently consider the Pixies to be one of the most important and influential bands of the 80s. Mainstream fame and appreciation/influence are two different things.

I love PIXIES They are all great musicians one of the best bands of all times. But what really impresses me all the time is Kim Deal. She has talent, charisma, great personality and she is beautiful. She is always smiling, she has it all. although here everyone looks nervous she seems like she wants to laugh. ♥ ♪♪♪ ♥
Black Francis is a lyrical tenor (aka a mid tenor) and always stayed within a comfortable range when he likely could sing much higher. I love his mixture of clean singing and screaming which really influenced so many bands that followed in genres like post-hardcore, emo, and as everyone knows grunge. Him and Chris Simpson of the band Mineral are kind of the pinnacle of the mid-tenor in rock music to me.
Albini does not like using things like enhancers and autotune and such, so it was very much not undorctored in the studio. Even in the later albums after reunion they did not use computers. Listen to Frank even more recently like the 2014 shows (gouge away is the track) holy cow..

I remember when this played on TV clear as day 35 years later. I had heard of the band but had not actually heard them. This song triggered one of the greatest love affairs of my life. I still recall the thrill of "Rock me Joey" at 1:41 then that gorgeous interplay of the twin guitars after the short solo, then being mesmerized at 2:07 when he is holding the chord shapes and he doesn't strum but you can still hear the faint chord ringing...still so amazing all these years later.
My boss has played this in the kitchen at work a few times and it always hit but I never asked what it was. Once I found it I could not take it off repeat. Screaming the lyrics at the top of my lungs and letting the song rock my soul. Absolutely legendary piece of art right here

Also, I've read that Talking Heads heard about Joy Division while they were in the studio (on an island), but didn't actually HEAR them as they couldn't buy the JD album, still the sound they imagined that band to have inspired their "Fear of Music" album.
