When I first saw tablet weaving being done, I thought to myself- "There's absolutely no way I'd ever be able to learn that!" Thanks to seeing this video, it seems like something I'm willing to give a try someday :)
You can make your own inkle loom by using a cheap frame and 9+ dowels. I took an old key hanger, carved 9 dowels out, and stuck them together with wood glue.
oh. I forgot to add that you can procure dowels by going online for softwood or going to someplace like Walmart since they usually have all sorts of dowels to choose from

My only negative comment first: the music is much too distracting for a beginner learning this new skill. Both the type of music and volume of music made it more difficult to concentrate on your otherwise great instructions. Now, with that comment out of the way, I found numerous tips that will be of value to me in learning this new skill! I liked your use of the clips, and I also liked the use of the safety pin to keep your threaded cards in order until ready for use. I also liked the way you were able to secure your yarn to your radiator! Thanks for your help!
great video, thanks a lot for sharing! just getting into tablet weaving, had the basics explained to me earlier, but seeing it in action was very helpful. keep up the good work! (oh, and the music you've posted, too - fantastic! )
Hi, thank you for these useful videos and the beautiful music in background :) I have a question, I don't undestand, reading the pattern, which cards I have to turn forwards or backwards, and when. Can you explain me better? Thank you in advance M.
Mohrhen thank you for your kind comment :) of course! Patterns are written differently according to how the author of it chooses, but this one (and most commonly seen) the ‘light’ squares indicate a forward turn and a ‘dark’ square indicate backwards turns. There are also double turns in some patterns, but I’d recommend starting with simple quarter turns like these, and then you can easily read and understand from a book like this about the more complicated techniques. When to turn the cards? Well, you read the pattern from the bottom, and you read each ‘line’ horizontally and so each square represents a card, so each line of squares from the bottom and up will represent the row of cards as the work progresses. You take the thread through the divided yarn strands, turn the cards according to the first row and push down. Then pull the yarn through again through the new divide from the other side and turn the cards according to the line above the first one. And so on. Does this help?
@@annaselbdritt7916 Thank you very much! " the ‘light’ squares indicate a forward turn and a ‘dark’ square indicate backwards turns" this is the step that I didn't understood before your explanation. I will follow your advices and tutorials!!! Thank you again M.
Thank you-card weaving finally makes sense to me! I love Niaz, too, thanks for reminding me of them! One personal question-why did you have lines drawn on your fingers?
Dawn Lewandowski You’re very welcome, I’m so happy this video could help you!! And yes Niyaz is such a great band. Well, I have them because I think it’s pretty, and the triangles make my nails look longer 😁 no deeper meaning, no inspiration. They're tattoos.
I’m glad you found it helpful! No unfortunately not, but I live in Denmark and bought it from a large Danish online book retailer, so I think there’s a chance it’s internationally available! 😊
yes the songs are from the band Niyaz. I enjoy their music and I find the singer Azam Ali very inspiring. She is very outspoken and critical of the Iranian government. They do not live in Iran.
@@annaselbdritt7916 I haven't succeeded at that yet. I opted for learning Spräng first. Did you make the socks? After I learn tablet weaving, I think it is time to add naälbinding to my list of skills.
@@lindagang1157 Yes I made the socks! Nålbinding is actually the thing I'm the best at, I've been doing it since 2011, so naturally by now I feel very comfortable with that technique and honestly, for me it was much easier to learn than tabletweaving! If you can knit or crochet, you can for sure learn it easily. Tabletweaving is still a bit new to me in comparison, and I've yet to try sprang! It looks wonderful though, and I hope to try it one day. I learned nålbinding through the wonderful videos from Sanna-Mari, her youtubechannel is Neulakintaat, and she also has made an amazing website with so much help.
@@57Weaver it makes me happy to have them 😊 it’s sad that it causes you such misery. Hopefully you’ll grow in the near future 😊 it will make you happier.
S one of the clearest videos on belt weaving/tablet weavjng. Thank you. Also so many easy things to use. Appreciate this

I knew there had to be a way to set up the weaving without an expensive loom, but I just couldn't picture it. Thanks for the video!

Thankyou for this tutorial. Im learning from scratch with this video
Thanks! This simplifies the process greatly after a complete beginning fail!😊
I've been having issues with tangling and regulating the tension equally on the yarn, this will really help I think, thank you.

Thanks for vidio. I have a question what are the clips called that you are? Using I can't find any that look like that.
Sensi Brett Doughty they’re from ikea, I think they’re for closing lunch bags and such! For kitchen use.
These are Iranian songs !
How could you work along with these noise in the background?
yes the songs are from the band Niyaz. I enjoy their music and I find the singer Azam Ali very inspiring. She is very outspoken and critical of the Iranian government. They do not live in Iran.
What are you using for your pattern?
Are the clips shown at 9:27 removed before you start weaving, or are they removed one at a time as you weave? Thanks for such a great video!
I remove them before weaving! :)
