    This was such a fun video to watch after watching all of your TZ marathon videos. I had no idea Desilu was involved in any way and that Desi narrated a bit, that's wild. I haven't seen every classic episode but every episode I've watched was memorable and I always enjoyed the underlying messages.
    Those poor kids, honestly, my initial response is that the movie probably shouldn't have been released out of respect for those kids. Or at least it should have been shelved for some time. I can't believe I still haven't checked out Jordan Peele's reboot, I'll fix that very soon. Wonderful, wonderful video as always!

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I took about a day after editing the portion about the kids and the actor Vic Morrow and just didn't even touch the vid while it was in progress. That story could not be left out of course, but at the same time it was just horrifying to even cover. In any case, thanks so much for the watch. There are some solid episodes from the reboot from what I've seen...some hits, some misses, but that's the case really with all of the series. Be well!

    I love TZ in all forms but I'm gonna have to stick with the original show; it's inspirational and this may sound strange, but I honestly feel like it's made me into a more empathetic person. The quality of your content is insane 😮; any streaming service could include this video with TZ content and nobody would know this video didn't cost a million dollars to produce. Exquisite content man, I wish you all the best.

    Still amazes me how this show can still be so relevant and great all these decades later. The Twilight Zone marathon on the Fourth of July and New Year's Eve is still something my wife and I look forward to every year.

    Great video! I love this evolution video. I can see how the tone of each version was a fruit of the eras they were made in. There is something serious about the original one that later ones lack for me. My favorite is the original Twilight Zone show.

    Very thorough overview. I'm a die hard original series fan and my fave ep. is TIME ENOUGH AT LAST - proving that even 'nice & decent people' still get treated nastily - not unlike in real life - and arguably Burgess Meredith's finest hour of the 4 ZONEs he starred in. Also : re: Carol Burnett in your narration - that's a mirror not a window.

    A Game of Pool is an interesting episode with a different ending in the original episode, in the original episode, Jessie wins and instead of living, he dies, because he is now the best not Fats, but in the original ending, Jessie loses, but gets to live, as Fats says, “as all second-raters die: you'll be buried and forgotten without me touching you. If you'd beaten me, you'd have lived forever." Fats disappears, while Jesse vows to keep practicing until he is good enough to face the champion again. That was George Clayton Johnson’s script with the original ending, it was later used in the 80s series, the original ending does make better sense than the revised version in the original episode, but I like both.

    I know it was part of the original black and white series but cant remember the name. Three guys steal gold then build a time machine to go forward in time where they will be free to spend the money. The machine works and catapults them forward but they find themselves in a desert. Over the course of their journey, they take each other out til only one is left. Starving, dying of thirst, he manages to grab the attention of a couple nearby in their hovercar. He begs them for water, saying he has gold to pay for it, then he dies. The man shakes his head when his partner asks what happened and he says: poor sod, he tried to buy water off me with gold thinking it was valuable but then we learned to mass produce it so its not a big deal anymore.

    I really enjoyed your historical discussion, Anthony. Just to be nitpicky, but you realize that given the general falling off of each successive iteration from the quality of the previous one, and moreover from the greatness of the original series, a case could be made that _Devolution_ of The Twilight Zone might be a more suitable title for your video.
    That said,there are gems in every one of them. I don't have time to get into a fuller discussion now--expect one later--but since you specifically mentioned it, "Gramma" from the 80's series easily ranks with the original's top horror episodes and, as far as I know, is the most overtly Lovecraftian episode of any iteration. I took time out to watch it again just now, and it holds up very well. Barret Oliver the child actor who plays Georgie is pretty much a one-man show and is excellent in the part. The other star of the production could be the atmospherics in Gramma's room with the hellish red lights, smoke, and moaning coming out of the floor. All in all, a terrifying episode to be sure. th-cam.com/video/BlyAD-336cA/w-d-xo.html

      Heeeey Galantski. Always cool to hear from you. Thanks for giving this a watch. I hear you about the falling off aspect. I agree, the revivals were a lot more hit and miss & to me, the classic series will always remain the best. In this case, I went for more of a neutral overview / retrospective of all the series. Meaning, I tried to not gush or bash too much along the way. Especially since there was so much to cover. ha ha, again, always appreciate hearing from you my friend, be well & have a great weekend. : )

      I think that for all of the revivals in varying degrees there's been a sense of homage, of tribute to Rod Serling and his original vision for the show. While the finish product hasn't always lived up to the genius of the original, the sense of reverence to Rod's goals for the series. Thanks again, Anthony, and have an outstanding weekend.. This was great! Personally, I prefer the original OG Twilight Zone, but I didn’t hate the remake. I’m still yet to watch the Jordan Peele version though. And I haven’t seen the 80s version either. I would love to see that Grandma adaptation episode. On the side note, TH-cam for some weird reason stopped notifying me when you upload, so I almost missed this cool video. Shame on you, TH-cam

      Hey Curly Girl! No prob, same happens to me, I have the notification bell on for lots of channels - but it seems a bit inconsistent. I think all the shows have their highs and lows but the original seems to be the most consistent in terms of quality, plus it had Serling as a guiding force. My favorite is of course the original show. There were only a handful of episodes I trully disliked even though Season 4 was a chore to get through due to its length. In fact, Season 4 showed why the episodes should only be 20-25 minutes in length as opposed to the near hour the most recent edition tried to do. There are a couple episodes that made it work (Her Pilgrim Soul from the 80s series), but ultimately, it works better at the standard length.
    My favorite episode is easily The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street. It's like The Thing but in a summer suburban area rather than the arctic. It's just very suspenseful and full of paranoia. Other favorites include Walking Distance, The Four of Us Are Dying, After Hours, A Stop at Willoughby, Nick of Time, Eye of the Beholder, Nightmare at 20,000 Feet, and To Serve Man.
    For the 80s series, Her Pilgrim Soul and Night of the Meek are my top favorites, though, I felt a lot of the stories from the 80s series forgot to include endings. They will have a great idea that goes nowhere and the story just stops. On the other hand, the 2002 and 2019 series were just boring to sit through. The one episode from the Peele series that stuck out to me was the one with the mother taking her son to college that has the cop who is constantly shooting him.
    It had an interesting idea, but the execution didn't make sense because the scene where the mother feeds the cop, he is all nice until he puts on his sunglasses. Suddenly, he's evil. Was it the sunglasses making him evil or did they just not know how to write this guy? If the show had ended right there, she feeds the cop, he says thanks, and then they go on their merry way, it would have been a fantastic episode. Instead, it just kept going on and on. It wasn't very a-peele-ing.
    Back to the 2002 series, the only episode I kind of enjoyed was the one about the criminal who kept escaping execution by some miracle. I thought the remake of Monsters was utterly dreadful because none of the characters even liked each other right from the start. As such, there was no tension between their paranoia as they already hated each other, so of course they were going to blame each other for what was happening.

      Hey Toku much thanks for the thoughtful commentary. Also, LMAO @ "It wasn't very a-peele-ing." I'm with you on the original series being the best. I have no issue dedicating years to covering that entire show, but the others series not so much. I also agree about some of the 80's episodes feeling like they conclude abruptly. Maybe some of that comes from the shorts which in a few cases I wanted to see more of. Anyway, again, thanks & have a good day ahead!

    Censorship forced the writers into creative workarounds - these workarounds actually created a show that allowed allowed those of a variety of political opinion to weigh issues the show presented and perhaps even reevaluate their pre own previously-held ideas. I really liked that about the original series.

    I think it was an enormous mistake to shunt the Zone from the 5th Dimension to a streaming service. It isn't fair to the audience or to the content creators. Sure, you can get down and dirty, but I think that the showrunners come up with much better material when they are forced to work around the crutches of sex and swearing to move the viewer.
    As I can only say I saw one episode of one reboot *not sure if the 80s or 00s* I can't make a fair judgment, but what I can tell you is the original has some huge boots to fill...Dimension spanning, if you will.

    • @FeverDreamlandTheater
      @FeverDreamlandTheater  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Marie, I hear you. I can certainly see how some viewers felt alienated by that move. I notice some of the classic episodes show up free on Pluto at least. But for any of the other series I think DVD or blu-ray may be the way to go. Oh and I believe tubi has some of the 00's episodes for free now if you are curious. Either way, the classics will always be the best in my opinion.

      @@FeverDreamlandTheater not everyone has extra money for paying extra for otherwise free tv (another reason I refuse to pay for SiriusXM's or other service ... I'll deal with the commercials and weather and traffic are too useful and dangerous to be ignored while traveling).
      I pay for cable because the area in NJ we live in has poor reception otherwise and my husband's family had cable back when everyone was still happy with normal VHF/UHF channels. Frankly I resent having to pay for cable, but the streaming services add insult to injury.
      Unfortunately, when Disney+ brought Hamilton to its lineup, I loved the play so much, I couldn't resist the bargain of one of the greatest Broadway musicals of all time for 7 bucks! Figured that I'd watch for a month, then cancel. Well, with Covid and Disney and everything else the Mouse owns, the catalogue of choices for this fan of Pixar, Star Wars, Marvel etc. Can't go wrong, cheaper than a single movie ticket.
      Thanks for the reccy for some of the other Zone versions, but I really want to see the two updates of It's a Wonderful Life. Heard good things about them.
