Jon, not only are you my favorite online guitar teacher you pick the most interesting and varied songs/lessons to learn. Obviously you’re a gifted player as well. I’m a lifetime member.
Excellent tutorial of what is probably the greatest & most emotional love/rock song ever written - Superb guitar version of Jim Gordon's piano concerto at the ending of the song. The best & most authentic song tutorial I have ever seen in over 55 years of playing & all compressed into a very clear & easy to follow in just 19 minute tutorial. Great work Jon more EC please!
I have literally watched dozens of Layla tutorial videos for months practicing and by far this video is the absolute best! On this video you can actually see every finger position for every note to be played while in other videos at times it is very difficult to see what finger is being played. Thank you Jon.
Great job! Thanks Jon!! Clapton is not the fastest flashiest guy around but his music certainly resonates with people and this is one of his best for sure that whole Layla album was incredible!
I've been trying to get the hang of this intro for a while now. Even though I play it note for note I could never make it sound right. After watching you, I see what I've been doing wrong!! Now I GOT IT!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
Interestingly, the original “Layla” was supposed to be acoustic but Duane Allman came up with this opening riff and the song was transformed into the rocker that it is. 20 years later Clapton performed it as it was supposed to be originally, as an acoustic song!
FYI I watched a few other vids but subscribed to your channel because you're so dang IN it that I was like "yup, this guy is my teacher!" Thanks for the pure joy and awesome lesson! #funtimesindeed!!
This is a terrific breakdown of a classic song-even the coda which was a piano piece which sounds great on the guitar. By the way the piano piece is credited to Jim Gordon, the drummer in the band. His girlfriend years earlier was the singer Rita Coolidge. She claims the piano tune is music she wrote with a bit of help from Jim. She was never credited on the album.
Jon, Love your teachings and love Claptons music. You asked what other songs by Eric Clapton we’ld like to learn… The Journeyman album is my favorite & I’d sincerely appreciate learning any & all songs from that album. Please consider this request, and thank you again for your tutorage to become a better guitar player. Kent
Fantastic as usual 👍🏼 when I listen closely with headphones, I really get the feeling that the main riff is done in two separate tracks. The transition from the single note riff into the chording is too fast. The three chords seem to start simultaneously with the last note of the single note riff
Well done, but it would be nice to see at least some mention of Duane Allman here, whose creativity provided much of the foundation for the guitar parts.

Is there a special guitar effect used for this song ? I can’t figure out which one. I’m just a beginner. Thanks Alain
The “Fretboard Guide “ is an impossible labyrinth. Is there a video that explains it ?
I need to visualize the spots on the fretboard of that bflat9. Is it possible?
Hey Jon! Would you consider doing Sign Language?
Excellent, how about someone like you
His jacket color matches his hair
