      Hi!! I'm thinking of take English language. Can you maybe tell me about it? Is there any like speeches , debates or arguments that you have to do because I really hate speaking allowed for exams (for example, Spanish speaking exam in GCSE) I'm more interested in the side about child language and context and identity. My grade for GCSE is only a 6, but nearly a 7. (Exams are all cancelled, I can push my grade up higher and I have only ever done one set of English language exams because I have only had one mock). I know your comment was 4 years ago, I just wanted to know, how was it??

    • @Leah-tv6mt
      @Leah-tv6mt 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@unaestrella1876 you don't have to do speeches or arguments but some of the essays are written like arguments so there is that kind of thing in the course. You are encouraged to have your own ideas and opinions about theories. with a grade 6 you could definitely do well. It is very different to GCSE so everyone is starting from the same point. As long as you put the work in you will be fine. There is also a creative writing and language investigation coursework section of the course to be aware of. Hope this helps!

    • @unaestrella1876
      @unaestrella1876 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Leah-tv6mt thank you so much!! Yes it does help. I don't mind written essays, I'd take 10 of those over a speech or an argument. I'm the worst at being independent but I'll try to pull some ideas out of my useless brain. I do like creative writing, I want to take Language because I want to learn the depth behind it. I'll also probably have the same English teacher as I have for GCSE. He's definitely okay, I just feel like he will pick on us a lot, though he doesn't pick on me since he knows I hate talking, but if I choose the subject for A level, it seems as that I WANT to do it; therefore a higher chance he will pick on me Which is greattt ;(. Which I do want to do it though. Thanks again!

    Hi Mr Bruff
    I've decided to take English Literature for A level because I love it so much. I think we're doing English Literature B on AQA. We're studying 'the twelfth night' by Shakespeare and will do crime next year. We're also doing 'the importance of being earnest' by Oscar Wilde and some poetry too. We are also analysing pieces of text through the lens of marxism and feminism. Please please please brighten my day and tell me you will be making videos on at least some of these books/options. Thank you!

    I don't know if this a general thing but I've found that A Level English Language and Literature is considered a 'soft' subject - I got both grade 9's in my English GCSE's so I took this A Level since I wanted to pursue both (mostly chose it for English Language to be honest). It's already too late to change my subjects but I am worried about this subject choice - there are only 8 people in my class, whereas English Lit has a full class. Can you let me know if this is true? Do you consider A Level English Lang a soft subject OR a easier choice than English Lit? Will I still be able to get into top universities with this A Level?

    • @thunderinghooves9561
      @thunderinghooves9561 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      English language is considered a soft subject yes, but unless you want to go to a Russell group university (which you need two a levels of facilitating subjects for) then you should be fine getting in.

    • @mrbruff
      @mrbruff  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well the eBook is 85 pages long, so there's quite a bit more in there than you'll find in the videos. For example, there's a ten page exemplar investigation that isn't in the videos at all. But the videos do cover quite a bit of what's in the book too.

      You have to learn how to analyse and compare different texts, e.g. articles, transcripts or advertisements. You also have to discuss topics like gender, accents and dialects and write essays quoting language theorists. In the second year it is similar but you study child language development and language change through History and there is creative writing coursework too.

    Please help. I'm confused.
    From the guide:
    Compound Sentence (a sentence with two or more clauses linked by a conjuction).
    I decided to walk to school because it was a sunny day.
    Effect: usually used by a writer to build more detail.
    My question:
    Elsewhere in the guide it says that 'because' is a subordinating conjuction. So doesn't that mean that the example given here is actually a complex sentence?
    Thank you. ☺️
