Skipper, nice video. I used the sterno stove with wood and it works great! I then "upgraded" to a vargo hex stove....but it has its quirks. I could have bought 6 sterno stoves for the cost of the vargo...probably should have too! Take care friend.

+WoodsTrekkin' Adventures ,, I keep looking at all these new stoves and they look really cool and useful,, then I see the price and hug my sterno stove!!! While I like the invention and the various styles, the bottom line is simply a fire and a way to cook. I get all that at about 6 bucks!! Can't beat it.

No doubt, I just watched a video on a cheap (22.00)wood gasifier stove. It is tempting! Then I think about the sterno stove. Not to mention the alcohol stoves I've made, the vargo, the isobutane stove.....and on and on....not sure it ever ends!

I know what you mean,, I did pick up an Alocs alcohol stove for 14 bucks, complete with a pot stand. I like it but have to carry a limited fuel source. Does work pretty good and is lightweight, it does fit in the Sterno stove so it is a decent option. Now I'm up 20 bucks for types of stoves,,,, I'm done. Well ok 80 dollars, I did buy the solo stove for 60 dollars. My only complain there is it does not fold down.

Yeah, I really looked at the solo stove too. But, the fact that it is one piece kind of had me giving it second thoughts. Now that $22 job- it comes apart which is intriguing.....hmm....

+Bushcraft Girl Karen Holy cow,, so good to hear from you again!! I hope all is well with you. Did you or have you tried the hot tent yet???
As to the mod for the stove, check out this video; th-cam.com/video/iveQVZFGYwI/w-d-xo.html
I just took a piece of 18 or 20 gauge steel, from the local hardware store, comes in 12" x 18" pieces. Cut out a piece about the right size (I did measure first) then used a grinder to round the edges and form it to fit. Once I had the basic shape and it fit, I marked the holes for the sterno can holder and drilled them out. I would suggest larger than needed holes. Then made a rough air flow pattern and drilled the rest. Seems to to the way to go!!

Nice!!!!! As I have said before, I love that Sterno stove used with wood. At under 7 bucks I went crazy and bought two!! LOL And I also have that Stanley pot and it's also a great value. Sometimes I add some small chunks of beef jerky to my noodles as the meat will re-hydrate and add to the taste. Again back to that stove, I've mentioned it to several of the big YT hosts and they won't go near it. Just to inexpensive and not sexy enough I guess! HA!! Ah well...it's their loss. Thanks for the video Amigo! AMB from Arizona.

+Charles Larson ,,, I am so with you on this!! This is my favorite stove!! It will do it all and it is large enough to cook on, light enough to carry and with the bottom mod,, well it will go anywhere!!
I have been using Spam lately in some of my outdoor cooking. I grew up thinking this was nasty stuff, and in some regards it is. It has a weird consistency when coming out of the can, but I cut it up, fry it bit and add it to my noodles or pasta or whatever and it is really good. It does have a high sodium content but in the SHTF mode, salt will be precious. They have several flavors now and can really add to a meal.
Maybe I shoot that as a vid!!!

Ahhhh yes, SPAM, the mystery meat! LOL I also have SPAM stored as it will probably be fit to eat after a nuclear blast!!! And they do have low sodium versions as well. Just picked up a can of bacon flavor SPAM and will try it out soon. I also carry along with a bag of shelled sunflower seeds, SPAM singles in my get home bag. It ain't high eating, but it could save your butt!!! >;)

+Charles Larson The bacon spam is good, I have tried it with scrambled eggs. I did try the low sodium and it was better as far as taste was concerned,, not as salty. I keep a few cases stored as well. Funny, I carry the singles in my bag as well, diced and fried and added to a package of cheesy pasta, well you've got a rib sticker there!!
