The disappearing baby (Louise Brown) was extraordinary. It turned out her father murdered her because she was disabled, and his brother helped dispose of the body. They were both jailed in 1985. And in 1998 (both now free), the father murdered his brother
this broke our hearts. Even my usually unflappable music master at college appeared very upset. Eric and Ernie still make me roll up laughing. Pure gold. God bless them both.
The best tribute I can pay is that I was 6 when the 70s began and 16 when they ended, and on Christmas Day my favourite part wasn’t presents 🎁 or food 🥘 but the Morecambe and Wise Christmas Show. R.I.P. Eric, Ernie and Eddie, and thank you for all the wonderful entertainment 🙏🏻
I was born when the 70s started and nine when they finished. The same age as Steven Morecambe, I would have been about two weeks short of my fourteenth birthday and remember his father's demise very well. Tragic!
You must be more or less my age (I was 60 in April). Same here. I loved their show. We were so lucky to have been around when great comedy shows were being churned out by the BBC (and ITV).
40 years since his death and he is certainly still remembered, i’m 22 and have loved Morecambe and Wise for a long as I can remember and i’ll always love them
My grandfather died in almost exactly the same way. He had 3 heart attacks, the 3rd one killed him. He was only 57 and died after leaving the stage in the Corran Halls in Oban.
Remember seeing this on the news and, to this day, the only time I've heard of someone's death with an "Oh, NO". Upon hearing of his death, one of his children's friends - for whom Eric performed various tricks - said, 'Does this mean there'll be no more magic?' Sadly, yes 'That thing about sunshine, love and laughter. It's ever so nice. We shan't forget it.
Did not realise Eric was only 58 when he died - that is young ! I know there are a lot of people who die younger than that ,it happened in my family ,but you don’t expect our comedians to die,but live forever 😊
I remember exactly where I was when I first heard the news of Eric Morecambe's death: my family and I were in a caravan on holiday in Dorset, and Eric's passing was the lead story on the 8am news on BBC Radio 4. I don't usually have such precise memories of events like this, so it must have made quite an impression on me...
bonnie brindle I don't remember hearing of Tommy Cooper's death so directly, but I made the mistake not so long ago, of watching his final performance out of misplaced curiosity. It's most unsettling - not a Pythonesque "comedy heart attack", but something like watching a toy's batteries run flat - and not helped by the knowledge you are watching someone literally dying in front of your eyes.
That's a shame. Did you watch his programs? Imagine if his relatives were watching when it happened too. It's tragic no one knew what was happening to him. I think he died one month before Eric.
+Tim Walker I can clearly remember where I was when Elvis actually died in August 1977, it was on News at ten and it was Reginald Bosanquet who announced it, my family and I were shocked.
That's crazy. You'll probably never forget it. There are many rumours as to how he died and why. It's so disrespectful to keep probing at a deceased person. I bet it's hard for his family to go online without see theories and speculations on him. Oh God do you remember when Diana died? You couldn't really watch anything else on television as it was fully focused on her.
I liked the bit on the news report where the guy said", Amid today's sorrow, there are a million affectionate memories of the tall one with the glasses." And now he's once more - and has been for 21 years - with the little guy with the short fat hairy legs. God bless you both. Sleep tight guys. We'll never forget you. Lots of love.
Hard to believe it’s 37 years since he left us, luckily we have those wonderful shows to keep him in our memories. What a sad day, not made any better by having to watch Zola Budd running in British colours.
I heard Reggie on Kenny Everett's World's Worst Wireless Show come into the studio, after Ken had played 'Dance With Me', voted No.1 on that year's Worst Records, and he just happened to cue up Ken's own single 'Nice Time' in retaliation!
By Jove, I remember Eric Morecambe's death well. I was just twelve days short of my fourteenth birthday. His son Steven is the same age as me. Zola Budd the barefoot runner another memory!
I share the continued sadness about Eric Morecambe and felt for poor Ernie back then in particular. In the other news; Reginald Bosanquet was only 51? And the rest!
@@Loverboy19691 that’s why he was able to continue after Eric’s death with so many successful shows. Oh wait…. Just accept that like the two Ronnies there’s was a stronger one and one that was less funny.
Vividly remember seeing this. To this day, it's the only time I've heard someone's death on the news and said, "Oh, NO". I'd seen Tommy Cooper die live on TV a few weeks before too - another comedy legend I'd grown up with.
SBS uses to say; Normal programmes have been suspended for the moment. This means that this afternoon's edition of Superflat Street has been postponed, and we hope to show that next Sunday. We'll bring you details of other changes to our programmes as soon as possible. This is SBS Television. Now, the news at 10 past Ten, with Kenneth Corbett.
I didn't realize he'd passed away immediately after saying goodbye and talking about his life ahead. Eerie. I can imagine how saddened people must have felt at his loss. Interesting to see Glenda Jackson here - I've mostly ever only seen her talking about political issues.
I was on holiday in Ibiza when we heard of Erics passing. The following day I got one of the heavies newspapers to read his lengthy obituary. He was special, and very sadly missed
The parents of that baby were later tried at court believed to have murdered their baby because it had downs syndrome. I can't remember the outcome of the court case but sadly they never found the baby.
+Matt Shroyer ... Looking at the date, it was quite possibly Spring Bank Holiday Monday, where the regular TV schedules are changed around for films and specials. Hope this helps.
The programme prior to the News at 5 past 10 was the feature film Caddyshack starring Chevy Chase. It was a Spring Bank Holiday Monday. The Party Political Broadcast was to be the following evening (Tuesday) at 9pm. The schedules had changed for Tuesday due to the tribute programme, The 1971 Christmas Special Morecambe and Wise show being shown. The programme Dolly Parton in London from London's Dominion Theatre was taken off and other scheduled programmes re timed.
Zola Budd? Remember her? And I wonder what became of that baby who would now be approximately 40 years old. As I remember, Eric passed within a couple of weeks of Tommy Cooper. I still vividly remember watching that 'Live From Her Majestys.' Tommy collapsed whilst 'pulling the big things from his pockets' routine. At first he seemed alright as he said to the girl assisting him 'i'm alright.' Next minute he sank down so he was half on stage and half behind the curtain, and it sounded like he was snoring loudly. It seemed a bit strange yet it was hard not to think it was all part of his act. That was the kind of thing he would do. Sadly, those were to be his last moments. Other acts had to go on stage and carry on despite the fact that Tommy's size 12's were still visible to the audience. Sad.
First time seeing And it is tremendously saddening... Having only appreciating them later in life I made the big mistake of refusing to watch them unless I had no choice... So I never truly warmed to them.. Until it was too late... 😭😭😡😡😡😭😭
Rember that case at the very end paul brown murdered his daughter and then tried to cover it up - then murderd his brother after getting out in the mid 90's
No but the parents were accused of the murder because it was believed they didn't want a child with downs syndrome. I can't remember the outcome of the court case.
What you couldn't see were the saucy ladies knickers he wore under his suit, a regular in the back of Mclarens Sex shop and a proper wrong'un as accounts go
70s and 80s had Morecambe & Wise, & The Two Ronnies and was both brilliant. Now we have to put up the extremely annoying overrated Ant & Dec. No comparison.

Crying my eyes out watching this, even in 2018 - 34 years later. What a wonderful comedian Eric was.
@James HendersonLucky Adam Wright, receiving your reply after a mere 2 years! What a pointless, weird comment to make! First Ernie, now Eric. Grow up!
I was 5 at the time and can remember his death on the news like it was yesterday.
God bless and RIP to Eric and Ernie. We still love you and we'll never forget you. Sleep tight guys.
This still makes me sad after all of these years...
I'm watching this in 2023 and nearly forty years after Eric Morecambe had died. So his legendary comedy still survives as a memory not forgotten.
I hope they know up above how loved they are still , I'm watching in December 2023 .
Taken before his time and much missed by millions. Thanks for all the laughs Eric and Ernie....
In loving memory of the wonderful, still peerless Eric, on the 40th anniversary of his far too early death.

when Eric died it was like losing a close friend.A comic genius.
34 years later dear Ern was right, they will always be remembered as truly great, they set a high bar few have even come close to since!
And they never had to resort to the unspeakable filth that seems essential to 'celebs' of nowadays.

Bedtime news
Reginald Bosanquet was46 at the time of that Parkinson interview. He looked more like 66.
