      I was in the middle of a custom storm dragon build into a Lancier inspired buggy and I am totally stealing components out of this kit for the front wheels, this is going to be so much more fun now.

    In Sweden, we have run the Nordic Vintage Challenge, NVC in short, for many years. We have chosen 1994 as the youngest, I think. And you can drive with re-re cars. Options must be what could probably be done or were available at the time the car was driven. In recent years, the 4WD and 2WD classes got bigger because we got a little tired of the oldest ones. And we are all the same age and we mostly drove in the 90s. Then it will be the 90s we prefer. The motors we use are now mostly brushless, as DC motors are becoming harder to come by. But we allow you to run a 19t dc motor as lowest winds. With brushless we drive 17.5t in 2WD and 13.5t in 4WD. If there are enough of us starters in 2WD classic and 4WD classic, we have the same rules there. Limited to 17.5 and 13.5 and if you want to run a dc motor, the lowest is 19t. And no one is using NiCd and NiMh all run 7.4V hardcase EFRA/ROAR approved.
    After almost 10 years of this racing here in Sweden, it has decreased. There is still a race every year, but not like it used to be.
    The rules we use.

      rc racing in sweden for 1:10 off road seems to be a bit hard as its mostly mid swedish cup and some small amount of random race, not eaven so much club racing going on.

    I think it’s ok to run a rere in vintage, parts are too hard to find for some. But I do believe they should stick with brushed motors and a very basic esc to be as close to mechanical as possible.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist หลายเดือนก่อน

      Or if going brushless, the turn count and allowed gear ratios should be limited.
      The ESC technology today allows us to dial in the maximum allowed RPM and a bunch of other settings that can be utilized to really level the playing field and restrict the speeds to an appropriate level for the old designs (and drivers, in my case.)

    Really enjoy your show. I have the RC10 DS and it is a blast to drive. It looks almost new because I have taken really good care of it. This was great news for me because I haven't driven it for a few years because I can't get tires that fit. I am really looking forward to the new release. My friends and I race street converted RC10's with BMW and Mercedes bodies from a company called Frewer. Loads and loads of fun!!!
    Cheers from Denmark,

    Tamiya Hornet Evo, I never believed they will do it! Kind of must have for Tamiya Fans. It's a pity they didn't choose a motor in front of the axle configuration, but instead at the very end. And the front axle seems to be wider, which sacrifices the original proportions. Nevertheless amazing news...

    Vintage "racing" is always a good topic for discussion. Good to see you've brought it up on your channel Gavin !! (Y)
    Down here in Oz it's more about the spirit of vintage R/C and being able to see the cars on track rather than individual results , having this mind set is one of the reasons our Vintage Bash has been a success

    Cheers for showing the lake district in its true summer style 😂 that was the worst rain we got, but had some sun aswell 😂 its allways a tricky situation with vintage rules. But revival events have now put a 10.5 motor limit on, no brass parts, no modern wings. There will allways be those that push everything to the limit to win, me. I just like running the old cars, seeing people i only see a few times a year at these events, having a laugh, and there are some bargains to be had aswell at the big events. But overall. Have fun 👍

    As for the vintage Vs Re-Re thing I know all the Kyosho re-re cars have much smoother gearboxes that’ll take more power. The brushed vs brushless is a bit bunk though. A fast, lower T brushed motor is as fast as a brushless but they are usually “poppy” and coggy and tougher to control than a modern brushless especially a sensored one. I wish there was more vintage racing in the US. I’m on the IconicRC Facebook but I didn’t realize they were a sanctioning body but I’m glad they are trying. I hope they do something in the US

    I just got notification today my DS ready to ship it’ll be nice to have one again I did have a DS Team Kit back in the day and raced it in what was called gearbox class at my local on road club it didn’t handle as well as my home brewed car built for that class (something that was common in the class) so I sold off the DS but later regretted it. At the time it was all about funding my RC racing so I didn’t have a lot of fun cars or shelf queens etc. unfortunately I sold off a lot of cars I’d like to have back today

    I'm excited for the Hornet Evo, first time I've wanted a Hornet, and hoping that there's a few more kits that get a similar treatment.
    I really hope there's a few awesome Tamiya releases this year, and through their anniversary... and inhope to add a couple more Tamiyas to my collection over the next year or two.
    Regarding vintage racing, I've seen some awesome photos and such from events in other parts of the world. I'd really like to see a scene develop for that here in my area, and I think it's happening, to some extent.
    There's a handful of folks around that race older stuff, even in the club races against modern stuff... RC10s, Ultima reres, 10Ts , and we have a decent group of folks that race 2wd nitro stadium trucks, "Gas Truck" ... we allow them in 2wd Mod Truck class locally. We have a handful of events that have been trying to offer a class for "Vintage" buggies in my area, as well as a "Gas Truck" class. Recently we had the Adam Drake Gas Truck Nationals at HRCR which also had "Vintage" and Rear Motor classes for 2wd. I hope that things keep building and maybe eventually we can have a Vintage 4wd buggy class...
    If there's enough of a scene for Vintage , I can see where making date cutoffs could end up working out, so you can kinda recreate some of the period correct iconic battles of the first couple decades if RC racing, but for now the track I help with is running a fun Vintage/Retro 2wd class, to help try to build the scene.... we are leaving it really open, so older cars and trucks, as well as ReRe kits and even modern kits, which are rear motor and 2wd... including things like BBX, Dirt Master, PR Racing RM buggy(they sent us one to raffle!) ... whatever we can do to have extra fun and maybe spark something to build the scene I think is great.
    Look forward to seeing what you build next, and good luck finding a great van to add to your RC adventures.

    There is racing on the rc10t in England but I hope it will come more popular, over here in Northern Ireland we have just got a grass track for 1/10 buggy’s but as you say weather has been very wet this year I’m hoping for us someone will open an indoor buggy track as we don’t have any over here unfortunately, you guys are very lucky you have tracks all over the place, thanks for sharing the video Gavin, I’m looking forward to your rc10b7, and before I forget if you haven’t started the build get the steering upgrade for the rc10b7 I done mine there and it’s a big difference and also put a metal arm on your servo too that’s a must leaves everything so smooth , big like as always mate

      The issue I have is unless it adds value to the channel content, spending money on a car just for me personally has to be extremely justified. I really want a Traxxas USR but it doesn’t really make sense over I would love one personally. Same for a 501x but I’m bickering as I really enjoyed the Durga.

    I think that Team Associated (Thunder Tiger) are shooting themselves in the foot, they really need to 'up their game' as it were. As for Tamiya, I do love them, and I like the look of the Hornet Evo, but like a lot of other people I hope they bring out something really special for their 50th anniversary, and not just another bleeding TT-02!! Vintage racing, what a subject to pick up on. I race a re-re Kyosho Ultima in the vintage class at my local off-road club, and to me that's OK, but I can also see the other side of the equation. There's no right or wrong answer, in the end it's personal opinion. And it's up to whatever club/track is running a 'vintage' event to decide what is and isn't allowed. As for a 'budget' off-road racer, I think the Schumacher Laydown (LD1) is a great choice, they can be picked up for reasonable money and spares are readily available. Plus they are really sturdy, I've driven a couple and they take a hell of a kicking. Just my two cents.....

  • @AtomskTheGreat
    @AtomskTheGreat หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    ah, a RC Car of Theseus discussion! personally i think the main aspect is the geometry and layout. and for fairness maybe a differentiation between "mod" and "stock" in regards to hopups. i can imagine a yz10r will run circles around a box stock yz10.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist หลายเดือนก่อน

      The R certainly more advanced than a bone-stock YZ-10 from the mid ’90s but wouldn’t keep up with modern wheelers if we assume the drivers have equal skills.
      4WD cars are a bit difficult to put into ”modern” and ”oldschool” categories because they went from rear motors to mid such a long time ago. Perhaps the biggest revolution in wheelers was the snowball that started with 3rd party prototyping, evolved into the AE B44 and the founding of Team Durango, and settled into the Xray XB4 about 10 years ago. Since then, others have made just their own variant of the Xray: AE, TLR, Yokomo, PR, and LC.
      With 2WD buggies it’s easier: rear motor with a tub chassis is the oldschool way, like AE B4 and older.

However, when I saw they weren’t making the Mercedes Benz body available, I was out. That body is nearly impossible to come by. Also, the “Mustang” body the rere comes with is unlicensed and looks goofy.

    It's a difficult one with vintage racing, I certainly think rere models should be allowed as sourcing parts for vintage buggies can get very costly.
    Maybe there should be a higher limit on the brushless motor systems though as some of them are so quick you might as well be running a modern buggy, then perhaps if you wanted to use a period brushed system you wouldn't be at such a disadvantage.
    I kind of like what they do with the vintage bash in Australia where it seems to be more about getting them off of people shelves and seeing them running than about winning the races, more relaxed and just about having a good time than being competitive.
    On the topic of the Schumacher Bosscat, do you think it's worth picking up a procat kit while they are still available incase they go out of production soon? Or is it better to perhaps wait for the Bosscat to be released later in the year?

    I feel you on all those added cost ordering from the U.S. don't feel alone though. Even over here we usually pay way over msrp. There's right at 10% sales tax added to everything here for most of us. I'll be honest, i don't even understand it. Sometimes i pay $50-100 tax on trucks i order and there's times like last week i ordered the new Redcat Valkarie and only paid the $299 list price. I think it depends on the state it's ordered from and or state you live in. U.S tax law is purposefully incomprehensible. You pay tax on income you earn and sales tax when you spend it. Huge racket for govt.

    American brands are steering away from distributors and towards direct sales due to ever diminishing margins. Trek and Canyon are doing the same in the bicycle industry as they squeeze their product lines due to decreased company overheads, while still remaining "competitive". Vintage to me is about the design of the cars, not whether or not they're a reproduction. If they're still using the same 20+ year old design philosophy I'm all for it. Personally I feel that making too many rules ruins the sport. Vintage racing should be fun, not an overly complex battleground.

    Yeah 20 years isn't vintage IMHO and it seems the google agrees. - The word vintage literally means "of age." With such an open meaning, there are many interpretations. Most antique dealers consider an item to be vintage if it is at least 40 years old. A bit like when people claim to be a VET after serving just 5 years, makes it/them sound better.

    • @Glocktologist
      @Glocktologist หลายเดือนก่อน

      It also depends on the maturity of the technology. What is considered vintage is basically an agreement among the people into that stuff.
      Clothes and furniture, for example, may go out of fashion and age in that sense but it takes easily half a century for them to become vintage.
      In my view, vintage is the actual stuff from back then but rere, retro, or old-school can be new production of old designs or style.
      I don’t have a specific year in mind for RC cars but rather the design: rear motor 2WD buggies belong in the vintage category and mid-motors are modern vehicles.

    1. Business is full of idiots in upper management. Nepotism doesn't explain most of them. 2. RC folks want what they want, and they want it now. They want it all, not understanding how much it costs to hire the people to develop the products, to produce the products, to store the products, to distribute the products, and to promote the products. But why understand, when one can complain? Complaining is more fun, and criticizing gives ignorant people a sense of superiority. 3. I dunno, maybe trade your healthcare system for cheaper imported goods. And export your jobs while running massive trade deficits like we do over here, where our toy cars are cheaper, and so many have big credit card debts so that they can have them ;)
