This game was definitely peak SoS for me. The villagers, the customization, music 🎵 and so much more was just close to perfect. When I played the other titles after like FoMT or PoOT, I always think about how I had a more genuine good time with ToT, and how those games didn't meet that standard. I'm hoping for something similar to that concept in a future SoS title, you know explore other cultures and whatnot.
"The real thing" is debatable. I mean, TECHNICALLY the current Harvest Moon games are official Harvest Moon games. They're still published by the same company under the same name. It's just that they're developed by a different group. But yeah, Story of Seasons is made by the people that made the old Harvest Moon games. So if you enjoy Harvest Moon, you're gonna wanna play Story of Seasons now. But that doesn't mean the current HM games AREN'T HM games. They're just...different (and generally worse) HM games.
@@TXFDA the issue with the old company not being involved with the new harvest moon games is they really don't have same soul its just natsume trying to profit off people who aren't aware that the marvelous and natsume split up Hopefully word of mouth will continue to spread and their cut will be taken by the actual devs.
In the age of the switch, I still love playing my 3ds☺️ I do have a switch lite and love the games they have for it, but for harvest moon/story of seasons games, I stick with my 3ds and I’m very excited to be getting this game next week! So many great things about it and I can’t wait to play
@@MyCat543 I have to honestly say pioneers of olive town has nothing on trio of towns and the first story of seasons. And am pretty sure other SOS fans will agree with me on this.
I've had an old 2DS since around 2016 (I think, that's when google says the bundle I got came out). Thing is, a friend bought it for me, and I never had the money to buy games for it. About a week ago, I finally dug it out of a box and tossed some custom firmware on it. Now I'm playing EVERYTHING I missed. Including a ton of original DS games. I'm loving it. I mean, I DO wish I had a Switch, don't get me wrong. But I don't have the money for one. But still, I'm having a lot of fun playing the many Pokemon games I missed, Animal Crossing, Trio of Towns, the Theatrythm games (including the japan-exclusive dragon quest one), a modded Mario Kart 7 with tons of new tracks and characters, the many Mario games. It's great.
@@TXFDA I know your comment is from a year ago and maybe by now you've gotten a switch. But I have to say that Animal Crossing New Leaf is far FAR superior to New Horizons. You're not really missing much.
You're such a sweet person, Gamma. I know how you feel with wanting to help the villagers and getting a big, goofy grin of happiness upon seeing a friend event, love event, or the events you get when you're super good friends with the villagers. It's such a satisfying feeling. To have caused positivity for the villagers. I'm that way in real life as well, and I will bet you are too. Compassion is a wonderful trait to have, and the events in this game make such a positive impact on my mood when I'm able to trigger a fun event, or after helping the townspeople having their grateful dialogue make me smile. It's a nice feeling, am I right. Makes the whole slow(er) times worth it. *^__^*
I don't really mind the barn size since animals can produce up to 20 products at max. Also I really liked the character interactions as well. It made each town feel like real communities. Great job!
One of the best reviews I've seen lately. But I must agree with the other comment below about the larger barns/coop can hold 4 animals at a time. I really enjoy watching you play because this game is truly just amazing. This is the first farming game that I have a hard copy of for my 3ds. You just get lost playing for hours and hours. Great job Gamma and can't wait to see more 😏
I have some issues on the game. I'm not sure if outside game is same as in the japanese version. 1. It has few bugs. But not enough to ruin gameplay 2. All seasonal crops takes a month to fully grow and time consuming 3. If you are playing blind, you realized that the requirements that you need aren't enough. And you have to wait until next year. Which is quite frustrating..like the wine maker... Overrall, the game is really fun. This game wants you to play more to get all the achievements that you want. Like getting all the clothes, farm circles, houses, pets, animals, friend events etc. I still kept playing it because it really makes you want to get all of these. I'm at year 3 spring. And I haven't finished getting all the town ranks. Because of a certain crop that needed to grow... Coconuts and grapes...
I play Animal Parade and I remember how I never farmed as I always wanted to save money and do other things (get married, making friends with animals and more). This game looks so interesting and I think I might get it!!
Its been half a month and I haven’t gotten this game yet. I might get it this Christmas or for my birthday next year. I do kinda wish this game had a larger plot aside from proving yourself able to start a farm
Aristokitty I was able to move thing around after chopping trees and smashing boulders to fit a large barn and a large coop! I do think 4 animals per barn is not a lot though... I do like the built in grazing area in front of the barns
I guess I didn't realize the space for a second one as when I was moving around stuff in my farm I didn't have the space for a second one after removing the trees and rocks. Probably too many crop spots with crops I didn't want to lose.
I know this is hella late, but I really appreciate this review. I've been wanting to play Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons game for literal YEARS but never had the money to throw at a game I havent been allowed to borrow and get a understanding if I'm going to like it and now that I have a good job I got HM:Light Of Hope and was.... well.... disapointed.... until someone recommended this game to me and told me about the name switch and pointed me in the direction of this video. All in all, thank you for making this review! I'm completely sold regardless of the foraging thing becuase I loved it in Stardew Valley and I'm most likely going to my local Gamestop today to get it lol
I love the review! :3 The plot on your farm design for gift crafting is a good idea! I might do the same, since I am right in the middle of designing my dream farm. I have proven myself and had my first child! So what better way to finish it all with the farm of my dreams. My basement is full of giant golden Strawberries already for weekly income ^_^ Which I am happy to share with anyone who wants a few seeds :D Gamma you mentioned that the materials was a pain to grind for. However what the tutorial did not tell you, is that if you leave mining areas for 3 days and mine them again afterwards, they will yeild more rare materials! Thanks for the amazing review! ^_^
I love this game. But still, there are some minus things that I don't like: - Large Barn/Coop only for 4 animals - I like rearranging Farm House and Farm Land more in Story of Seasons 1 (not the trio). This version is too stiff and I can't get creative like the previous one.
This was probably my first harvest moon type of game ever and i feel in love with it this game makes you feel like your really there and i played it for hours back in the day i still have it i might pick it back up
I recently bought this game and OMG I am in love with it! Ford is the best character I've EVER romanced in any Harvest Moon game. One of these days I'll force myself to romance other people but I know who my favorite is. ;) If you like Harvest Moon at all then this is a MUST buy!! You can tell they put an insane amount of effort and love into this game.
great review! I do love chatting with the extra villagers and I like the part time job system a lot. I feel like I have been able to advance quickly in the game so I am not dreading waiting to upgrade items all the time or wait for a certain season to arrive before unlocking an item or new animal type.
One of my top 3 games in the series. Agreed 100% on the pros and cons. The developers really stepped up their game as far as dialogue--characters have much more to say than just short comments on the weather. The events were great for all the reasons you mentioned. It's why Pioneers of Olive Town felt like such a step down I especially love that you can start out with a good chunk of change (50,000 G, I think?), which makes getting your farm running SO much easier (but not less fun)
Easily one of the best in the series recently, if you want to see some gameplay I do have a Let's Play of it, while it is onhold I go through like the first 20+ hours of the game.
Recently started this game, I definitely enjoy it more than A New Beginning, but there is a lot of stuff to improve on. Back to Nature and FoMT are still my favorites. Hopes are up for the Switch sequel.
Wonderful review. I absolutely love the game but yes I agree that the barns situation is pretty annoying at the start of the game but I'm used to it now lol ok maybe a little bit. I guess what xseed wanted to do was give us more of a challenge and I like challenges. I love all the new festivals and of course bachelors are well developed in this game and honestly better then the first story of seasons. I would recommend this game to anyone that likes farming games this is game is just hard to put down. happy anniversary fellow farmers 😄
its not fun as it used to be, i remember i could play magical melody for hours, i cant play this more than 10min befor giving up on it :"( even Stardew was boring for me...i think i lost my farmers touch
Well I'm sold. I was a bit iffy since the last one I felt was overly tedious but if the character development is as good as you say then it can only be a good thing it only recently released in the EU. This year sure has been amazing for games.
OK, for customization, if you're going to put a hair salon, give us the option to fully customize our character before we start in case we don't like the stupid hat.
My favourite part of all HM/Sos games is always the story. For me just running a farm isn’t enough. I wanna save the harvest goddess or revitalize the land or something other than growing crops and raising animals. Also I love the mine so I am a bit peeved with the way it is now.
Just got this two days ago. So many cutscenes in the beginning. Kinda driving me crazy. At least there is an auto button, even if it does go a bit too fast at times. Plus pressing a all the time is making me think I am gonna wear down that button so quick. I love going between b and a while talking.
Never said I didn't like them, I just didn't like how ma many there were in the first year. Really made that year take forever. I'm also one of the people who want to complete the game, so I have to play at least 14 years to get everything. Not doing the 70+ years for everything to be platinum, would drive me insane.
Actually, you only use stamina with your tools when their actually doing something. Like if you're chopping down a tree, the only stamina you'll lose is the stamina it takes to chop it down, if you keep the axe swinging even after the tree is fallen, you won't lose stamina.
Two Towns/Trio of Towns were probably the weakest in the series in my opinion, I ended up trading this in, trying to give time to it each day. The game quickly devolved to 'do these chores for us' which wasn't terribly enjoyable, and the fact that the game simply just time locked regions away. (Two towns was a whole different kind of chore)
I disagree entirely, all of the towns are unlocked by the middle of summer, which is less than five hours of gameplay time for me, and personally only did chores during the beginning and only occasionally after that. It seems like you did not invest much time into the game before returning it, which is totally fair if you didn't like it, but the game as a whole does not play as you say it does.
The only HM/SOS game I've yet to play. I always really disliked how bright and oversaturated the colours are. It's like a box of crayons was sick onto the screen... Plus, the cartridge is quite expensive now...
I love sos lots but this one didnt seem to get it to me. I loved the first SOS so much n it was pretty bjt for trio idk... I played it for awhile but i didnt get into it
Trio of towns it’s way better than the first one. Don’t get me wrong the first one is good but trio of towns has more variety plus it has the shipping bin which wasn’t present in the first story of seasons. I find myself being drawn more into trio of towns than I did with the first one to be honest.
The game developers from the harvest moon series left Natsume and Started Story of seasons under another company. So technically it is their 20th as well as Harvest Moons 20th anniversary, just based on the fact that its the came core development company.
I don't wanna provoke antagonism, i just would like to hear your opinion of story of seasons compared to stardew valley, i would like to get into one of the games. Thanks :).
I've played fantasy life and animal crossing new leaf but I've never played one of these games or a farming simulator plus if you can get married in these games can you choose what gender to marry no matter what gender you pick since it's a bit more of a modern game i don't even know why I'm asking that but i don't know if I'll like this game what do you think???
I would recommend you a game like tree of tranquility to get used to the game mechanics and since is one of the most eye catching game entry on my opinion
I remember played this game last year when I downloaded the game on my 3ds & I freaking hate it so much & make me go so insane but seeing the cutscenes with the bachelor is ok & town ranking request is awesome & growing crops is ok but taking care of animal & too many festival those are suck like hell & part time job is good too & I’m going to be honest that Story of Seasons Pioneers of Olive Town that what I’m playing right now is way better then trio town in my personal opinion
i like a fast paced games like rune factory 3 & 4 (the first 2 are slower paced farming) .. though i do enjoy few of this series like HM:FOMT, Grand Bazaar and Tales of Two Town... although they r slow paced farming... but what i really disappointed is the graphics & gameplay it self, if Gamefreak can nailed their graphics in Pokémon X&Y and still keep improving like in Pokémon Sun&Moon graphics, why marvelous cant do the same? RF4 is also the same, they only port the model from RF3, the gameplay's animation also feels slow, like picking up items takes whole second to complete...which is a turn off for me
1. Controls are below Par when compared to Harvest Moon BTN and Friends of Mineral Town. In fact I would say it's worse than Harvest Moon 64 and SNES Harvest Moon. Hard to imagine how much Backwards they've gone with gameplay. 2. Pacing is Slow, and boring. Serious grind issues have been in the series pretty much since the birth of the DS and it doesn't seem to be getting better. 3. Still suffers from most of the problems with progression, like tool upgrades/buildings, and farm expansions that the last two games had. 4. In conclusion, not worth getting. Franchise isn't improving at all, hasn't been, it's just be devolving.
Story of seasons seems to suck compared to harvest moon as harvest moon I could play for hours yet story of seasons bores me to tears after a few mins.
ok wow pass they did a few things i don't like. 1 the field it looks really stupid. i want traditional fields. 2 watering crops looks extremely inneficiant. 3 picking up things by actually clicking the a button, fuck off, just pick it up by walking over it. stop putting needless mechanics is to prolong the game. 4 menus look really stupid, give me a bar and bag, let me have quick use items in the main bar. i don't want to scroll through menus to find what i need. we all know how that works. oh shit i just hit my cow with a hoe due to sloppy controls. and last but not least, could they screw up the visuals anymore. this game looks horrible.
I know this is probably just meant to be a troll comment, but I'll address these in case someone else comes by: 1. + 2.: These fit together. Yes, the watering is slow, but each field holds 9 crops. That means less time spent on planting/watering every square of plant and also explains the looks. It's basically a 3x3 soil square mashed into 1. 3. I agree with you to a certain extend, but it'd also be extremely annoying to pick up every rock/weed/wood when you're already low on bag space. It would be nice with a shorter/no animation tho. 4. The menus actually get better and better. I haven't personally played this entry in the series yet, but they're very fast and easy to navigate and all function on hot keys. Iirc, you can even "favorite" items you use often, so they're in a special list.
demonpride1975 You can't even spell inefficient. Plus, there's nothing wrong with your issues. You want a game where you can pick up whings by running them over? Go play Minecraft.

Nothing beats rune factory
RUNE FACTORY 5!!!!!!!
Kristina Hall Yes! Can’t wait!
I played it for awhile but i didnt get into it
I am stuck between two options right now , should I purchase story of season trio of towns or just story of seasons
Always a fan of your opinion so just wanted to see
I personally prefer Trio of Towns
Trio of towns it’s way better than the first one. Don’t get me wrong the first one is good but trio of towns has more variety plus it has the shipping bin which wasn’t present in the first story of seasons. I find myself being drawn more into trio of towns than I did with the first one to be honest.
I can't find this game in Australia , I have been playing the first so's , game and love it
It's out now in Australia! Go buy it!
Yeah , thanks my wife has got it for me for Xmas , I can’t wait to play it
so how does trio of towns relate to the first story of seasons? is it a sequel? or completely new story
Completely new story. But I find trio of towns to be a lot better and a big improvement over the first one.
I love this game, the best game ever!
I didn't know story of seasons had 20 yrs worth of games like story of seasons back to nature or story of seasons back mineral town.
The game developers from the harvest moon series left Natsume and Started Story of seasons under another company. So technically it is their 20th as well as Harvest Moons 20th anniversary, just based on the fact that its the came core development company.
Mrs. Trilogy I know just being ironic if u got my drift
Nice review, i'm going to buy it.
aawww the chicken is always my fav
why does the field look like that? :
it's basically a 3x3 field mashed together to save time
getting the game within this upcoming week
why the graphics look like that? bc the 3d?
Bubblegum Herondale ➰ yes
Spec?
Will they release this game for the switch?
Not this one, but a new one will be made for Switch.
@@IkaGamma Thank you!
Story of seasons friends of mineral town which is a direct remake of the original mineral town. Which I will be getting when it comes out in July! 👍👍
the large barns hold 4 animals and the large coup 4 birds

Gammalad

I agree!
It holds 4
Anyone still play? My island is calling!
Bunny Berry Beauty I’ve been trying to find someone online forever 😅😂...Is your island still available?
Still play
I don't wanna provoke antagonism, i just would like to hear your opinion of story of seasons compared to stardew valley, i would like to get into one of the games.
Thanks :).
I love this game I love this game
I've played fantasy life and animal crossing new leaf but I've never played one of these games or a farming simulator plus if you can get married in these games can you choose what gender to marry no matter what gender you pick since it's a bit more of a modern game i don't even know why I'm asking that but i don't know if I'll like this game what do you think???
No. The game is restricted on if you're a girl you marry bachelor's and if a boy bachelorettes
I would recommend you a game like tree of tranquility to get used to the game mechanics and since is one of the most eye catching game entry on my opinion
Is there a fast way to make money
Jenna Evangelista Getting a job.
+Nido Hime i do jobs everyday
Also starting with the tycoon personality type. Starts you with 50k right off the bat.
is the framerate still bad? the other story of season ran like garbage
I’m looking for Harvest Moon on SNES, lmk if anyone has one for sale.
@Tom Jones I need it for my cartridge collection
I feel the animation got a downgrade on the game as well as the music which sucks
Sounds like metaljesusrocks
Need More videos Please
♡ MarVelous!!
I know this is probably just meant to be a troll comment, but I'll address these in case someone else comes by:

You can't even spell inefficient.
Plus, there's nothing wrong with your issues. You want a game where you can pick up whings by running them over? Go play Minecraft.
