Haha true, I used daylight for the moonlight in this video. So perhaps I'll use the moon for mars

Hmm, hard one to answer since each light fits a different need.

Is it enough to shoot in sunlight to get good food colors in the video?
Motor oil (new) instead of actual syrup is a neat trick because the oil won't soak into the waffles or pancakes and provides more photography/video time while looking "just poured." Your technique has great results. For an additional method, Caleb at DSLR Video Shooter has a wonderful technique using a mirror in order to also provide a window shape to the "sunlight." Putting tape on the mirror also ads framing for a multi-pane window look.
For sure, I've seen folks do that :D I just didn't have any lying around

Love this! Beyond brightness, are there any advantages to getting the Amaran 60D over the 60X since it only has a single (daylight) color? For someone looking for two small studio/office lights, do you think the 60X would ultimately be more flexible to get different looks like this?
Yes the 60x would be more flexible if you think you'll use it. In a controlled space with a good camera, the 60x is plenty fine enough :D

@@FellowFilmmaker I don’t have any lights where I can adjust the color temp. I just have daylight balanced. Will I get the same results if I shoot raw and adjust the white balance in post ?
You can play with your camera's white balance in camera to see if you can get it closer to the color temp you want. I do that with mine all the time to fake a color temp I want. Then use post to fix it and get it just right. But you need to get it most of the way there in camera.

love your videos!! You have such a nice tone of voice. When it comes to the light i think it looks very nice, but i think it feels a bit more like light from practicals in the evening. I like to play with contrast in the colors. Maybe you can try to have the soft light much colder or neutral and set the hard light warmer. Then you will get a feeling of the blue sk y and the sun will be more clear. hopefully.. 🙂

Do you think the Amaran 60x would work ok with a projection kit? Is it strong enough to fake the sun with some windows shaped gobos?

It can do a decent job, I'd go with a 100w light to be get a more realistic sunlight look

Why did You didn't try to use bounced light from a mirror?
Cuz I'd need a mirror and I don't have one laying around that's the size I'd want. And I like the projection unit :)

It is a studio shot, and it is dark. I didn't like all the bounce going on, so I kept the room tone down
