Secrets of Eternity was released in January 2015. This set introduced the Infernoids, a series of monsters that can Special Summon themselves to the field by banishing other Infernoids from either the hand or graveyard. Notable cards in set include Farfa, Malebranche of the Burning Abyss, Qliphort Monolith, Uni-Zombie, Nephe Shaddoll Fusion, and a card that would bolster Satellarknight to combat the Burning Abyss Shaddoll meta, Stellarknight Constellar Diamond. In this series, both Nyhmnim and myself will be opening 24 booster packs or 1 box of a core Yu-Gi-Oh! booster set. We will build a deck and play a best 2 out of 3, and the winner will receive a small prize to upgrade their deck. HOWEVER! Each episode, we will open another box of the next set that was released moving in chronological order, constantly upgrading our decks before dueling each other at the end of each episode. This is the Yu-Gi-Oh! Progression Series.
I do think it's fittingly poetic that the video on 2015 chronicling the rise and fall of Nekroz, a meta Ritual Archetype was released during the format where Voiceless Voice, a Ritual Archetype whose playstyle is the closest we've seen to Nekroz is also meta. Edit: Also for the curious about Nekroz’s price. On release the full deck would I’ve cost you about 700+ to build for just the core. 150 for Brio, 50-80 for Valk and 20-40 for Trish. It was even worse in Canada where Brios were 180.
2015 was bar none the most diverse year in YGO history. Every single deck released felt playable in some way. And the gap between META and Rogue was so acceptable. For reference here in 2024 we’ve had what 7 or 8 decks top events the entire year?
You mean just ycs tops or tops from the whole competitive season? As in also regionals and nationals? If it's just ycs, then sure. Adding those other events though is a completely different story, even if you exclude regionals.
We've actually had 15 different topping decks at just ycs events since raleigh, that number goes way up if we count nats and goes up even more if we look at the previous formats, eapecially the extremely diverse pre PHNI format Snake eye isn't that doninant in terms of representation, they're dominant in terms of winning almost every premier event Mr5 yugioh, even in it's least diverse formats, is still more diverse than most pre mr5 formats
52:23 correction on Ignister to point out just how insane it was: It could pop *any* pendulum monster or scale to non targeting shuffle, not just your own. The 2nd most heinous card in the future pend mirrors right behind Wavering Eyes for the same reason
Feels very surreal to watch a history video on the time when I started playing Yugioh, watching events right after Dimension of Chaos came out and catching up on history of the year. Super fun seeing a more in-depth look at what I just missed out on, and weird going into stuff I was around for going into the 2016. Great stuff, and I can’t wait for the 2016 video if you choose to make it.
I can’t wait for the next episode, metalfoes/abc is by far my favorite format in the history of this game. Dark synchro is my favorite deck of all time, but that format had so many other decks that I love like toad hero and metalfoes yang zing!
I got back into yugioh during this time and I loved this year so much... every deck was fun to play against, Yang zings were a blast, pendulum I personally really liked... it was boardline perfect.
I'd love to hear a breakdown of what happened to ARG. They were local to me, though I was a MTG player at the time, and they did NOT have a good reputation in the area.
During Nekroz format they released their own banlists for their own tournaments, and it was a controversial move as it could be seen as the stores method of profiting off the market if players bought cards that were good for the ARG banlist. Cimo and MBT talks about this when they covered this period in their history of YGO vids.
Funny enough ppg did something similar in 2020. They released their own list and that's what killed them along with other controversies with shipping with prize support on remote duels and plenty of other wrong decisions.
13:52 - 1:10:52 I won’t lie. The pendulum era of Yugioh had some fun moments. It was also the Era that had me excited for and made me pick up 2 Decks that I still play Today! Those two Decks are D/D/Ds and Cubics! The crazy thing about D/Ds, was that They were Suppose to Out in the TCG so Much Earlier than what Konami allowed! They Were Actually suppose to Show Up in Very First DECK BUILD PACK “Secret Forces”. Which the OCG pack carried them as Four Archetypes instead of three! And IT PISSES ME OFF HOW Konami Sliced this Archetype up in pieces just to keep Whatever Cash Flow they Got from the other Three Archetypes! The Fact that half of D/D/Ds Archetype wasn’t Accessible and got stuffed into a Structure Deck that Then Got Unceremoniously Shoved towards the Back end of this Era Really made Me Hate Konami! As the Structure Deck that Cane out in place of it was Revival of the Ancient Dragon! Thank God that Cubics managed to Break out all of its Support all in the same year!
Gentlemensing out a Djinn to put a different Djinn in is one of the funniest things anyone has ever done to win a Yugioh tournament, like it's almost something you could see some character-of-the-week doing in an episode of Yugioh.
@@traplover6357Just play the format after djinn banned and clash rebellion release, around synchro extreme release is cool, make sure it's before kozmo second wave / nekroz banlist. Towers not much problem anymore as u have Kaiju (tho no gamaciel yet) Maxx C was still fine at this point. U can see many decklist like nekroz, BA, and infernoid didn't even use it. Most decks can give u +0 or +1 and pass, at most +2. Vanity at 1 is valid, but many still run spell trap removals. It's not instant win. Even removing their monster still get rid of it.
Hey what is the background song at 1:03:-- It sounds cool but since you're explaining Minerva being broken I can't google music search it 😢 Great video
Upon review, i feel like as far as retro formats go, I feel like we should revisit post Dimension Of Chaos pre-banlist at the end of 2015. There's tons of strategies available with nothing too broken.
Funny enough the attach eff of ptolemus came up a lot at first. Before cdi came out you were almost always making Pleiades with it, so the attach eff would let you summon it with 2 materials instead of 3.
Yeah I remember that Bulls**t! That was such a BS moment in Yugioh and it’s a good idea that the Judges imposed that ruling to Keep BS tactics like that out of the game! Still, I think that guy should’ve been Kicked the moment he lied!

I'm still assmad after nearly a decade that "Stellarknight Constellar Diamond" and the similar monsters weren't named "Constellarknight" I get that Constellar has a very different name in Japanese, but come on. It feels very intentionally spelled that way by one person on the localization team, and then very intentionally ignored by someone else on the team.

2015 is probably my fav year of the meta. I was grinding locals every week. Went to my first YCS this year too
Literally the best yugi series on TH-cam rn

yep! As a nekroz fan, i've been jamming voiceless nonstop since release.
I don't think Nekroz play style is really that similar to Voiceless at all. They're just both ritual focused archetypes

Currently playing Yu-Gi-Oh Arc-V Tag Force with a Nekroz deck. Had so much fun speed running the game with the Nekroz cards not yet limited. 😭😭😭
One of the best meta imo.

I am watching every video after watching this one😂 Best YGO historian on YT🔥🔥🔥🔥
2015 was the year I build my first meta deck(Nekroz) and when i started taking yugioh a bit more seriously
CORE is one of the best sets in the games history and happy to hear it treated as so.
Always worth the wait.
I’ll never get over pulling 3 brionic from 4 boxes back in the day, my buddy went on to take 3rd place at a Michigan regional from that good luck
2:40 THE MEME! 9:18 this pacing cutting joke was funny 13:53 a good ritual deck!
Can we make a retro format focused on YCS San jose? (Just before that killing banlist) i really wanna play that time era more
Look up yuginono he calls it finish line format
Finally it's come back

Exactly. Not to me tion some potential for Rogue decks to make noise
