Just make sure to lean forward at the trunk with your humorous between 15-35 degrees forward for more lateral delt isolation. Always wanna be moving in the scapular plane for this movement!
I'm very surprised that T-Nation don't recommend the famous "Lu Raises" this raises not only make gains on the delts also are very functional. Another great exercise are the Gymnast raises in where the elbows are locked, palms facing upwards and then raise from a 90 degree angle from the floor to 180 degrees. Gymnasts train this for rings work also this develop the biceps better than curls. Just try it!
There is no “must”. Both pinky high or thumb high will work your side delts. Thumb higher will use slightly more front delt, but it’s all individual preference really. Whatever variation feels best and allows you to overload over time is the best option

Mistake: pinkies must be higher, not the thumbs...! It's proven a long time ago!

Pinky higher forces shoulder joint into internal rotation which aggravates shoulder pain in many people... It's proven a long time ago
