@@lynndupree1205 We live in the age of entertainment and sound bites. If it's flashy, loud, and short, a great chunk of the populace will gobble it right up and stand in line for more. Obama is elegant, well-educated, speaks in a modulated voice, and has actually been recorded using compound sentences. Trump is a weird color, has strange hair, and expresses himself in brief, toxic gouts of hatred and stupidity; he is a walking, talking cartoon -- and that speaks to an appalling number of people. It's kind of terrifying.

@zoepuntis746 The folks who vote for Trump are mostly in the Southeastern US, the old confederacy, which never recovered financially after Lincoln abolished slavery. These people are the descendants of land-owning Lords and Ladies of what is now the UK. From the plantation era and onwards, these are the ones who wish to keep all for the rich and make everyone else a poor slave (very low wages here). Trump has tapped into this energy that never died out after our Civil War. Most of his followers are poor and undereducated. In the Red States (Republican), there is a great deal of poverty and depression. There is also a tendency to continue dated and unworkable patriarchal traditions. The majority of Americans are Democratic. Some are Independent. About 42 percent are Republican. So, those of us who are educated, worldly and most of all, moral and fair, support Democracy. I call this clear motivational distinction between the 2 major parties, me,(R), versus we, (D). Fortunately, there are more WEs than MEs.

No presidency is without scandal but the Obamas truly cared for America and its people. They showed over and over again through their interactions. It is heart breaking how we went from honorable, respectful, responsible to...well no words can come close to what we have now. Longing for sunny Obama instead of stormy Trump.
