i agree the P6 sits at the sweet spot of the Rega line.
I bought the RP3 several years ago and have added some improvements. I replaced the subplatter with an aluminum unit and the glass platter with an Acrylic platter and the wallwort now feeds a speed box which evened out the speed quite well. I have it all on a welded steel record stand and have a 3" butcher block between the stand and some 2" sorbothane hemispheres that the RP3's feet sit on. Each of those add on's improved the performance incrementally but together they improved the sound of this turntable a lot.

      Sounds a nicely modified RP3.
I have a few modified Regas on my channel, if you have the time and inclination to look.

Just updated my 70s vintage dual 1229 to a P6. Absolutely great difference and woke up old music I've had for a long time. A Marantz 6015 that I've had for around 6 months is a perfect driver. I would recommend both to anyone looking to move up.

Thank you for a super video and showing your lovely system. I currently have the Naim Uniti Atom with Rega P6 Exact cartridge and the Rega fono MM phono stage. My current speakers are the Focal Aria 926 and I have the Audiolab 6000cdt for cd's. All my current cables are Chord Shawline. I have booked a demo / audition of the Naim Supernait 3. I am also upgrading to the Ania pro but because of the cost of the SN3, my available budget for the MC Phono stage can only stretch to the REGA
Fono MC MK4 Moving Coil Phono for now. I will also be getting the EverSolo DMP-A6 streamer. I will be keeping the Atom and think in time I will get some Dali Bookshelf Speakers.

For a lot of people you're system is the dream. You'd have to spend a lot more to get any worthwhile improvements. At any price point synergy is key, a budget system can sound great.
I have a Rega planar 3, Roksan kandy amp/musical fidelity v90-lps and a pair of q acoustics concept 20 speakers. I love the sound of my system as it is but for me what you have is end game tier!

Thanks, the P3 is awesome too!, sounds like you've got a great set up. I decided to go as far as I could with what I could afford. It gets to a point of 'diminishing returns' when spending money on kit so I think it's important to try and enjoy the music rather than obsessing with making improvements. Thanks again for your kind feedback. Cheers

Nice system Mark, i also have the ProAc DT8 speakers with Rega Aethos amp, Technics 1200 turntable with Ortofon 2M Black cartridge, going to try a Hanah MC cart next, for CDs i have the Audiolab CD T 900 transport, like you i am very very happy with my system also, had the Rega P6 and loved it but ended up with the 1200 as i like direct drive.
Carry on enjoying your system, as has been said you would need to spend much more money for little gains.
PS, i got hum on my P6 with the psu close, so moved it further away, made a fair difference,

Thanks Mark! That was fun and I love your system. I have the RP6 which was the last generation. I have had it for over 9 years and upgraded it this year. (I'm an older guy so if not now, when?) I had to get an aftermarket aluminium sub-platter as the old 6 Rega sub was half resin (read: plastic), a brass double belt pulley (made more accurate speed) and went crazy and got a good deal on the RB3000 tonearm. That was all much cheaper than buying an RP10. She rules my system! THAT SAID, I just upgraded my dac to a really good one (Denafrips Terminator Plus 12th). My 9 y/o Cambridge Audio disc player sounds unbelievably good (sounds stage, instrument separation, smoothness). My CDs NEVER sounded anywhere near this good. I'm a "vinyl first" guy, never thought of myself as digital either. Now, I don't dismiss what CDs are really capable of with a high end dac. I'm gobsmacked.

    • @Markymarkvinylnut
      @Markymarkvinylnut  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Thanks for the feedback...wow! Great upgrades! yes, I'm spying up the RB3000 tone arm at some point in the future. I love my p6, it really is the sweet spot in the range. I've heard from my dealer that the P10 is about to be superceded, so it'll be very interesting to see whether rega will go back to a traditional plinth. Anyway, thanks again for the comment and keep spinning!!

A very interesting video, thank you for showing your system. It’s nice to hear from someone else who is happy with their system without spending ridiculous amounts of money. I too live in the real world and most of my system is at least 30 years old and I do enjoy the sound quality. I have however been toying with the idea of a new turntable and Rega is on my shortlist along with Project or a used Linn LP12 in the region of £1500. I tend to spend most of my disposable income on records and CD’s so my budget for the hardware to play them isn’t large. Once Christmas is over then I will be ready to take the plunge.

Instead of the granite I use a concrete patio block 15"x 15" x 1.5 " $3.50 each and large Teflon sliders painted black. I can't feel any vibration being transferred to the floor and with the sliders make it easy to move the speakers on my hardwood floors.
you might want to use sorbathane 2" half spheres under the Rega feet. Easier to level with the half spheres. The biggest up grade to my p6 was the addition of the trigon vanguard III phono preamp and the Nagaoka mp500

Beautiful system Mark - Great choices, your Aria and DT8's strike me as the ultimate keepers, I have an Aria 3 and Pro Ac Studio 140 Mk2's . We disagree about keeping the lid on... but I put my beans into a P8 a couple years ago, so have no choice now! I set my sights on an RP8 in 2015, I enjoyed a P3 1999 through 2020 and bought a 3 month old P6 from an auction site, as we went into lockdown. The only reason I've on youtoube and not listening is doing research... I've almost worn out my Ania carried through from the P6 and I'm thinking about sending it off to needleclinic in the US for an upgrade/retip... I bought a Supernait 2 as the Supernait 3 was introduced and prices dropped. It's hard to see beyond that super sweet amp. Happy listening, we have similar tastes although I'm into more modern, think Brownswood label jazz.

      You get more bass
I love the Supernait 2, its pretty much end game for me (bar lottery wins) in '99 I bought a P3, Brio, EL8's enjoyed the music for 20yrs but bought some headphones that made me realise there was a world of sound I wasn't hearing, so I've spent the last 5 years upgrading... I tried an XS2 which was good, but go listen to a rega deck, Ania, SN3, it's gorgeous. Very Jazz / live music friendly. My speakers might get a refresh in 2-3 years otherwise I'm too busy listening / wearing out my cartridge to think very hard about the gear anymore.

I am currently running the P3 50th with Elac Solano speakers and a Elac 10" Varro Reference Series sub and I have to disagree with playing with the cover on. As every system is obviously different... I get some pretty bad flutter/feedback through my speakers when I play with the cover on, starting at about 25% volume on my vintage Pioneer SX-1080 receiver. I suspect my cover is catching sound waves from my sub, even though it is completely isolated from my floor. Without the cover I can turn up to any volume without any problems at all. YMMV, (your mileage may vary). 👍

    Hello, Nice video, subscribed.
I have a question and thought I would ask a P6 owner. I recently purchased a P6. My platter has the slightest bit of play around the spindle. If I slide the platter laterally it moves enough to be noticed if I had to guess I would say a millimeter, maybe 2. It doesn't seem to affect anything but I am curious if that is correct.
