  • In Forestry, controlled pollination is carried out on mass scale to breed trees for disease resistance, straightness, volume growth, height and diameter. We recently visited one of our customer's seed orchards in Alabama and flew a drone over the Loblolly Pines. As you'll see in this short video, the scale of the operations are quite breathtaking and this is just one orchard out of hundreds across the US South! The white things on the trees are PBS CMP.55 pollination bags, which are used to isolate the flowers so that the required pollen for breeding can be introduced. The bags act as a barrier to airborne pollen that would contaminate the breeding process. #plantbreeding #trees #forestry #loblolly #pine #pollination #pollinationbag
