van der Poels´bike control and race spirit are just amazing. Love to see him ride. Much respect for van Aert but the Dutchman currently is in the form of his life.
😢 I feel sad for Wout he is great, but, van der Poel did amazing, his team was top.
Feel bad for Van Aert this race. This race he actually rode a tactically perfect race till the puncture.
I think he was hurting pretty bad at the end, MVDP was probably stronger this day

@@robj1637 i saw a different race then you then. i saw a lot of power on van aert, closely following VDP every attack whilst never wasting too much energy. In fact i'm not sure VDP closes on Van Aert without that puncture. As i think they were about equal today.
@@SevZG I don't think he attacked cause degenkolb crashed , but because VDP was a bit slowed down because of it. He was watching VDP and VDP alone throughout the race.
what is mathieu a fantastic rider he always attacks and is one of the best riders ever. pogacar is ofcourse the best climber but in those 1 day races mathieu is the best of them all he wins more then van aert for example
I myself am more of a fan of van der Poel, but van Aert is just very often unlucky in the classic races.

That's the whole point, I couldn't watch the race, but I avoided looking at sites like procyclingstats etc, so that I could watch the race on TH-cam later.
And then they give away the blummin' result in the title of the video.
Wout has always looked at Mathieu in the race, and really drove defensively.
That was not Van Aert as I known him.

Triste pour Degenkolb qui a fait une course magnifique, en étant dans la roue des meilleurs, il a montré toute son expérience sur cette course.

Had the same happen to me to on GCN, made a comment about it, and they have stopped it now it seems like. But EuroSport should be smarter than spoiling the result in the thumbnail i totally agree! Just avoid YT and media all together if you dont want the result. 🤷♂

Kudos for Dutch Eurosport commentator Bobbie Traksel for immediately noticing Van Aert had a puncture. The rest only noticed when Wout went to his mechanic.

@@jayzento3199 they literally sent him to the ditch like wtf are we even discussing. So that's one thing and not denying MVDP any credit but he literally won because of a puncture. Not impressed, if Van Aert won like this I would feel the same, the race was bad.
@@geuros Did we watch the same race? MVDP had a clear gap, he went for it but Philipsen closed at the last minute. Unfortunate, but that's racing. Also, the Dutch champion has been the most active rider throughout the course, attacking, always at the front, pulling even when he wasn't supposed to... and you are telling me he won because of a puncture? What are you even talking about? He literally is the one that deserves the win the most.
@@geuros If this was MVDP's first win I would agree with you, but he wins so many races that whether it's luck or pure skill is irrelevant. He's simply the best. If not the puncture he would've outsprinted van Aert, he was in the best shape of his life.

Wout looked strongest today by far, so unlucky, I’m a big MVDP fan but he was super lucky today!
I’m quite neutral, but what I saw was MVDP attacking all the time not Wout. So It sounds a bit weird saying Wout was the strongest by far. Based on what? The look on his face? MVDP did everything perfect and cycled one of his strongest races. Wout getting a flat tire was unlucky for him, but it doesn’t take anything away from the victory of MVDP.
@@shawndev3901 Well said. Van der Poel attacked 4 times at least, Van Aert just once when VDP was with him, and only when Degenkolb crashed.
@@shawndev3901 every time Mathieu attacked Wout was on his wheel and pulled him back easily, Mathieu had spent a lot of time on the front so had Wout not punctured it would have been an epic finale and my money was on Wout as he would have lots in reserve. Not gonna detract anything from Mathieu, you need the chops to capitalise and pull it off, which he did, just felt gutted that it ended that way as I’m a huge fan of both.

What a fantastic rider Mathieu is, he just pushed Degenkolb from the road. Perfect. Thats typical for dutch drivers. I bet he's a fan of Verstappen.

You're not being fair here. if he didn't go to the right he would have hit the back wheel of his teammate. and they all would have been on the ground.
Did you even see the race? He had to move to the right, because his teammate Philipsen who was riding to his front left, suddenly steered to the right. If VDP didn't react, he would have crashed himself.
