The most terrifying/disgusting thing to me is that each assault was recorded, probably for child pornography, sold to other sick people. Those tapes are somewhere, in an old and forgotten place. And there are people who may have watched them.

This is a brand new case, not much is known yet. But a 13 year old girl was raped and murdered this last weekend in Jacksonville Florida. Her body was found on Mother’s Day. The main boy that is responsible has no remorse at all and is behind bars right now. But other boys where involved, and some have been posting about her death mocking her. “Mr cruel” is one of the investigators for the case
the fact that a lot of the evidence was just lost is really suspicious, and being one of the investigators of course you aren’t going to be suspected of being the person behind the crimes. So this is kind of like a death note situation

Bella I was a teenager spending a lot of time around one of the areas around about when this was happening and still live nearby. I recently happened to drive over the road where Karmein's body was found and it made me think of it again. I can't believe it still hasn't been solved. To think he could still literally be walking amongst us and I have a daughter now. He needs to be punished. I wonder if he is still alive? I've never forgotten Mr. Cruel but surprisingly I haven't even heard him mentioned anymore off-line. I hope DNA advances and all the genealogy technology advances solves these cases.

Hi, Holly. Police do not help their cause by refusing to release a new and corrected criminal profile. The 1991 FBI profile on Mr Cruel claims all 4 linked crimes took place on school holidays. This is simply not true. Nicola Lynas was kidnapped on 3 July 1990, on a Tuesday night in a normal school week for ALL students, not just her school. The Lower Plenty crime took place on a Saturday 22 August 1987 in the middle of school term 3. Yet the FBI profile said there was a high probability the offender was connected to a school but NONE of the crime dates suggests this. The other crimes took place during the Christmas break (27 Dec 1988) or on a weekend (13 April 1991).
The Australian media have never called this mistake out. It is a great pity.

I am from Lethbridge Alberta Canada, and this case hits very close to home for me. Unfortunately search efforts to find Marshall have almost stopped leaving his family and loved ones with absolutely no answers. His car was found abandoned in another province, and the police almost appear as if to not even be looking anymore. There are signs and posters all over my city, hoping one day that Marshall will be found. If you could do this case and raise awareness maybe the case could be reopened and further investigated. RIP Karmein and kudos to her mother Phyllis for staying as mentally strong as she has despite everything she has endured.

Thank you so much for doing this episode and shedding light on it again. I went to Presbyterian Ladies' College and was in the same year level as Karmein Chan - I often sat with her, we had her younger sisters Karly and Karen on our laps on the school bus each day. It was such a terrifying time in Melbourne and particularly at our school because we wondered if PLC had been targeted by him and we were in constant fear that any of us could be next. David Sprague from the Spectrum Taskforce spoke at our school assembly numerous times in the aftermath of Nicola Lynas' abduction and return, then during the year that Karmein was missing, it was so surreal and scary. Karmein was a gem, but she was also cheeky - my theory is that Mr Cruel didn't intend to kill her from the offset but did so because Karmein would've captured sight of him somehow or been too much of a handful for him. I along with many of my classmates attended Karmein's funeral and I will never forget the primal scream of Karmein's Mum as she was led down the alter towards Karmein's coffin at the church that day. Such a tragic story and incredibly frustrating that nobody has been held to account for the damage and loss that he has caused.

It’s good to see former students at Karmein Chan’s old college still remember the cases and take an interest. Personally I feel sorry for the Spectrum taskforce, who worked hard but were dealt a dud hand by previous investigations. These include such mistakes as losing vital evidence; not releasing a full description of Karmein despite the obvious “... of Asian appearance”. No height, or weight and a photo of an 8 year old girl instead of a teenager who was 13. Police also told the FBI that all Mr Cruel crimes took place during school holidays, but Nicola Lynas was kidnapped in the last week of school term 2 in 1990.
The list of mistakes goes on and on. The offender probably couldn’t believe his luck. If you want to know more a good place to start is the Melbourne Marvels website. They published an interesting part of a manuscript by a former college employee, “Clinton Bailey”, claiming Mr Cruel may be someone in the electrical trade. Hope you find this of interest.

Thanks for sharing that Belinda. Apparently one of the bus drivers was looked at very closely for inappropriate behaviour with students - did you remember that?

    • @bel_down_under
      @bel_down_under ปีที่แล้ว

I don't remember our bus driver or any other bus drivers being looked at closely. We caught privately chartered buses each day, had the same bus and the same driver. I definitely recall our regular bus driver Bruce though who would've been in his mid to late 60s at the time, he always seemed like a decent and friendly man who wouldn't hurt a fly to me.. I can understandwhy he'd be questioned though considering he knew Karmein, her sisters, where they lived and their daily routine..

The way Bella narrates the mysteries not leaving a single deet, also repeating them over again to remind us and tell us is so incredible.🤍

The other possibility (it’s very dark so I hope not) is that he was selling his videos of the abuse as child pornography, and then took it one step further and killed the Chan girl in order to sell a snuff film 😭

But it doesn't make sense. Why wouldn't have he done the same to the other 2? It could be that she saw his face and he killed her out of fear.

@@lily2820This is exactly it. He was a calculating sociopath, but he was also a fucking coward. He most likely intended to let Carmein go, but she was aggressive and fought for her life, seeing his face. So he shot her.

Evidence “disappearing”, the way he cleaned, I also find it fishy that when they pleaded to him outside police, a police officer tried to get money out of them. And that he even tried to confused/throw them off with writing on the car… I think it’s a strong possibility that he is/was in law enforcement…

I’ve written detailed responses to this and other posts offering additional information on this that keep being taken down. Once more ... the police do not do themselves any favours by taking down all apparent references to Mr Cruel and his victims from their own rewards site (last time I looked).
They also do themselves little credit for point blank refusing to issue a new and corrected criminal profile on the offender to replace the deeply flawed FBI profile of 24 April 1991.
If you have any questions re. this feel free to ask or reply.
Take care, best wishes, Penguin Vic.

I think it was done by someone who worked and currently worked in the police enough to know their process and who things work to be able to get away, and with evidence disappearing that could also explain that , i think they were so focused on finding the person, they never really thought it could be one of them
