In November of 2022, RADM Gureck (Ret) was presented with the Gray Angel trophy, a title established by the Blue Angels Association to recognize the oldest living Blue Angel officer from the earliest team. I'd like to personally thank the Blue Angels Association for supporting the production of this video.

I saw the Blue Angels fly at a Grumman air show at Grummans Calverton plant. They were flying F11 Tigers. 1967. My dad worked for Grumman. He took me for my birthday. The Cougar was my favorite Grumman plane. I saw one fly at that air show. The next day they flew at Jones Beach. One of them hit a retainer wall and burst into a Fireball. I met him 24 hours earlier. I was very depressed. I had no idea that this could happen. Do you about this, and can you tell me his name?

Bill Gureck is my wonderful father and I could not be more proud of him. Thank you Blue Angel Phantoms for taking time to produce this treasure for the both the public and for the Gureck family.

I knew Adm. Gureck, while he was Capt. of the USS John F. Kennedy. I was his Marine orderly his entire time onboard. I met you and your sister, your Mom and I believe your Dads parents when your dad invited me to Christmas in 1974. He was the most respected Naval officer I ever met. His Naval history is something I know you are very proud of. Congratulations to him, to you for your service and to your sons for theirs.

I was lucky enough to be hired by Zeke Cormier in 1980 when he took on the job of rebuilding the San Diego Aero-Space Museum after a tragic 1978 fire wiped out the entire collection. Worked with him for 20 years in that great endeavor. And OF COURSE the Blues flew missing man at his Fort Rosecrans service.
Thanks for this terrific interview... brought back familiar names who frequently visited Zeke at our new museum. 👍👍👍

I didn’t know Zeke was buried there.
That place is absolutely gorgeous. What a final resting spot.
IF I qualified- which I don’t- I would rather be there than Arlington.

This is completely bad ass. I was born way too late. These were clearly the best days!

Saw a Cougar fly at a Grumman air show in 1967. The Blue Angels were flying Grumman F11 Tigers. They were great days.

God Bless all those guys that flew the early jets!! The early jets might have been built like tanks and were tough, but the jet engines of the day were underpowered and less than a 100% reliable. I knew an old guy years ago that was in the Navy and served at Miramar. He said he remembered watching the Blues come back down after a practice show in Panthers with dents in their wing tip tanks where they had obviously bumped together during practice.

Thank you for this video. Just down the road in little Rio-Vista CA was a pilot from the Blue Angels from back in the day if memory serves me correct. These pilots came from everywhere representing our great nation. Working on a 1/32 scale Blue Angel phantom. these videos make the perfect setting while building models

Where are earth did you find that model?
I have a 1/48 scale Blue Angel Phantom that i built.
      I’ve never seen a 1/32 scale.

Was second CO of the USS Shreveport. How lucky were those sailors to serve under a blue angel. I served on the Shreveport from 2000 - 2004

You were from Hempstead? Bill? We were from Glen Cove. Grumman was in Bethpage on route 107. My dad and brother worked there. Always loved the Cougar was my favorite Grumman plane. Thanks for your service.

How do you make old footage look so new? What technique do you use to do that? Great video as always!

Thank you so much for your kind words and acknowledgment about the quality of footage. Because this channel leverages a lot of historic film from the National Archives and other media libraries, the resolution of these source files are often standard definition. In an effort to reduce the loss of quality when scaling this footage to High Definition, I've invested in a couple different tools that leverage artificial intelligence to fill in pixels as the film is upscaled. These tools have resulted in mixed results based on the quality of the original clip. That being said, I really appreciate your taking notice of this effort! Thanks again! - Ryan N
