Man, I love you Gabriel. You videos are a nurturing respite from our crazy chaotic world. You convey the beauty in exotic places that I can't yet experience - giving me a taste of the beauty of the world, even when things may seem grim. Thank you and happy new year!
Thanks Gabriel, you are a great story teller ! Enjoyed this vid , yes endless golden beaches is south east Asia . Beautiful Islands and I hope they recover fully after covid. 😊😊😊😊
Loved Shantaram Gabriel. Was one of the contributing factors that made me want to visit India. Did partake in quite a few beers at Leopolds in Mumbai. Just fell in love with the place and the people . Hopefully I can get there again one day soon . Thanks for letting us all travel vicariously with you. Happy travels. 🇳🇿
Wow! I watched every second, loved hearing about the books, always great to have a good read, the squishy spider trigger, hippie bar, the arch, and the found new areas! Really great exploration! The Hippie Bar looked so cool!

Gabe, I haven’t read a book in years and I started reading Shantaram because of your recommendation. I can’t get enough of it thanks for helping find my love of reading again!
Ok regarding the Hippie Bar, if you find yourself on the island check it out in the evening! Lighting, live music, candles & very chill vibes throughout the labyrinth of this bar. Been traveling for over 40 years & this is in the top 3. Cheers 🍻🥂🍸
I watched shantaram on apple tv (12 episodes). Very cool series. Now you mentioned i found out the tv series is actually based on that book. I’ll grab a copy to read it. Thanks for mentioning 👍🍺
Loved the new side as a book reviewer! I ordered the Secret Hunters... I'll let you know if I like it. Sounds super intriguing! I've always loved historical fiction. Evelyn Anthony used to be my favourite author. Happy New Year Gabriel! Best wishes for a wonderful 2024:)
If you dont have time for reading I can totally recommend audiobooks. First of all, its great when you are really tired and just want to lay down with the lights out and just drift away. Also its great for being able to listen to during walks or other journeys where its just a hassle to hold a book and focus on reading. Now you obviously dont want anything heavy you really have to pay attention to. Right now im reading/listening the sci-fi series The Expanse where the TV show is based off. Really perfect for those situations and a nice break when you are bored with music.

Have been begging my sweetheart of 23 years to read it but he insists he will when he gets out to sea on his boat-he has a beautiful handmade Australian boat only 12 in the world but it came with no instructions and he's not rich and he has to figure everything out himself but he wants to set sail soon!⛵ Destination Greece and Israel 🇮🇱💙🇬🇷
I’ll try the Secret Hunters. Sounds fascinating thank you. I remember when I was in Thailand sleeping on the floors of shack type houses and I really wonder what insects visited me at night 😂 I met a lady who said she woke up with a colony of ants traversing her face as they made their way across her bungalow 😂
That village you came across was one of the last mokan (sea Gypsie village) there’s a pretty near documentary about there lifestyle on Slice. If you take another road to the eagle bar on the island you find a road lower down and it goes all the way to the mokan village. They speak there own language and very little Thai and Burmese.

Gabe, thanks for the awesome video and for getting a shot of your giant spider encounter! I'm one of those who had said you should have filmed one of your spider encounters in India. Very interesting to see. Like you, I don't hate spiders and I no longer kill them as I've come to appreciate them. But if I came across a giant spider in my living area I would probably have no choice but to dispose of it. They are just too freaky to have that close by.
Happy 2024 My Friend. Shantaram is actually available here on TH-cam as a audiobook! I’m going to listen to it when time permits. Also that Hippy Bar looks so cool. Would love to roll one up there listen to some reggae with some good food & drinks 👍🏽
I really hope they dont ruin asia before I get back. Even though Mexico is like a third of USA unlimited printed inflation covid biggest recession since the depression highway robbery and its still too much. A huge plate of food, 3x a day, a hotel and daily hash in India, 10$ max total
As you say most spiders are harmless, in fact they are important part of the ecosystem, without them there would be many other dangerous bugs, even in your room. I don’t mind spiders myself, but I certainly don’t want a snake in my room, which happened to me once in the Philippines. It was about 3 foot long and its body was the size of a pen. I immediately went to reception and the guy knew how to deal with it thank goodness 😅
The spiders can party all they want outside my room, there's lots of free space out there. A snake would be even freakier. The geckos on the other hand are welcome to come on in. There were some in my bungalow and I was happy to see them.
Hey Gabriel… not to put a downer on things … I can only use audio books these days reading is a struggle I miss getting lost in a book in a cosy nook oops 😂sorry but if your books were on audible or any other audio I would really love that .
poison insects are serious business. I have been bitten by one . almost five years later and still treating it. some articles think most spiders have poison in their bite
Gabriel ,,Sir Ranulph Finennes was in the SAS Special Forces ,, he later on had a quadruple bypass , then ran 7 marathons in 7 days then climbed Everest and went to the north pole unassisted fell in the ice water got frost bite on his hand and cut off his own fingers ,,, what a guy
Have you ever read "The Far Arena" by Richard Ben Sapir (published in the 1970s)? A very light read, but also very entertaining. A gladiator gets frozen in the polar ice and is reanimated centuries later. I still wonder why this hasn't been adapted for film.
Those mis-aimed shorts had an impact @25:30 and I've gotta suggest 'ghost spiders'. Or, maybe shape shifting empath arachnids. 🌲😎🌲 Then to hear you've got a real deadly journal too, and which now has the ghost of yet another spider attached... & which will now also be accompanying your ongoing journaling. Or, at least could be the cover story. Be unafraid. We've got to assume life has offered itself up as a sacrifice to honor the depth of ALL storytelling. Spider decals for merch maybe? There's even an Etsy store which has custom made temporary tatoos for those afraid of commitment to Arachnids. Making them part of your brand might be a jump though. Ha ha. The driftwood magically re-constructs itself @28:30 it seems & with some brilliant help - the former vessels and flotsam - saved from the cooking fires - can shade us too - until we can emerge into the light and be known. I love that place. There's a really surprising upstairs that's not OSHA approved. Speeding down the path @41:45 I was wondering where are the dairy goats? Fixing the masonry exterior - right there - for the caretakers might get pretty cheesy. Much yogurt could happen there grasshopper. That substantial fence could hold goats between forage walks. I hadn't expected to be taken on a journey towards Guruji Shri Prabir Priyaranjan Bhattacharjee. As Gregory David Roberts focuses on his six-year training with his spiritual mentor in writing the Spiritual Path - I'm seeing that there's a Scribd pdf version so I don’t even have to go out on a rainy night now. Gabe, is there a 12 part Australian TV series of Shantaram? 🦚
Here is a fact that many people don't know. One of the most poisonous spiders of all---is the common "daddy long legs". This amazes people who have handled them, and who have never gotten bitten. The reason is--their fangs are too small to penetrate human skin. (Thankfully!)
I had a neighbor who spent time in India and was bitten by one of those giant type spiders. He said that they caused skin eruptions about the size of US fifty-cent pieces and oozed matter that resembled cottage cheese.😮
Ok Gabriel, I don't like spiders either but it has to be expected that you are going to meet large ones in the tropical places you travel to. But neither you or anyone else has the right to kill insects or animals "we don't like the look of"!!!! Safe and "kill free" travels, Gail Czech Republic.
Gabe is obviously a seeker but not a full seeker as he rejects ideas that contradict his preconceived notions. Hopefully, one day, he will wake up fully.
I do that sometimes. The problem is when they're almost the size of your hand and they move fast. I'm not going to take a chance at trying to catch them, because they will probably get away. But I don't want to live with them in my room. So the realistic options are limited. Big difference between dealing with a spider the size of a quarter versus one that's five or six inches across.
