    A friendly correction about urban lighting: the "warm white" lights that are usually used in the streets are sodium vapor bulbs which is a type of discharge lamp (a current excites the gas which starts emitting light), now sodium emits light mostly on the "yellow" wavelenght and has a very poor color rendering, so much so that it can hardly be considered a white light. An incandenscent bulb although still being quite warm emits on a broader spectrum, closer to the one of the sun and in this sense it's more white. That said I don't know why, considered modern technology allows to make leds of any temperature, warmer leds for pinball are not common polace or aren't used that much.
    Hope you found this interesting, I love the videos about pinballs: they're always good fun and informative

      You do know that high pressure sodium lamps have long been seeing phasing out from usage for street lamps, right? The street lamp lighting IS LED-based, even more evident because HPS lamps are far more orange than what warm white LED's, not yellow like you claim. And the reason why cities are moving over to LED street lamps, both warm and cool white, is because of power efficiency. BTW, at 10:20, with the light arc against the building would've been SOLID all the way down because of the light spread of a HPS lamp.

    I've replaced the headlights in my old 98 Subaru Outback with COB LEDs and it's amazing the difference it makes at night, especially in the rain. It's been about a year and they're all still working. So maybe they're better suited for lights that are steady on (like the GI lamps), rather than the flashers. They are definitely available with a color temp that matches the old incandescent bulbs.

    • @LyonsArcade
      @LyonsArcade  2 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      You may want to consider not driving on two lane roads with those things in, yes they make it easier for you to see the trees.... but they blind everybody approaching you making it much more likely that they actually hit your car in a head on collision. Tons of news stories about this, they're incredibly dangerous but yet they market them to everybody so they don't hit squirrels.

    • @XMarkxyz
      @XMarkxyz 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Just mind that the led works as intended with the headlight reflector: an old reflector is made for an incandenscent bulb which spreads light in every direction and so the reflector makes it converge in a beam, while a led is very directional so be careful you didn't end up making an high beam or the light not spreading in the right way ;)

    • @funcamp_ltd.

      @@LyonsArcade It's true, so many times I'm flashing my high-beams at some dude who I think has them on, trying to get him to turn them off. 50% of the time it's just LED headlights that are blinding the hell out of me.

    • @shermanikk
      @shermanikk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@XMarkxyz I'm well aware, the replacements I got are specifically designed to work with the original halogen reflectors by creating a similar light pattern as the original bulbs. I took pictures of the light output pattern before and after changing the bulbs and they are identical. I promise I'm not blinding anyone.

    • @shermanikk
      @shermanikk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LyonsArcade I'm not blinding anyone, these aren't the cheap chinese LEDs with some bizarre light output pattern that's all over the place. These are nice, well-designed COBs with lenses over them that make the light output pattern identical to the old halogen bulbs so they can be used safely in the original reflectors. They also have active cooling on the driver electronics so they don't burn up sitting in a hot engine bay. Things have come a long way from the days of eBay "HID" lamps and other dubious lighting kits.

  • @ericernst7414
    @ericernst7414 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You are correct about some of the LEDs being polarized, compared to non-polarized. That is why they have to be flipped in the socket. Typically DC only LEDs are polarized and AC/DC LEDs are non-polarized. Some of the dual element LEDs are known to back feed other circuits, be careful if you ever replace one like 1157, 3157, 7443 etc.

    I can definitely tell the difference between the yellow hue compared to the bluish hue.
    It's more pronounced on camera than real life between cool white versus warm white.
