When I saw the back legs on that German Shepard I had to hold back my vomit. I can't believe people would be so cruel to destroy such a beautiful breed. Handlers who breed for that are truly sick.
@@timthomson37 and that breed standard was based on looks not health and function, the breeds existed and then show standards were created to exaggerate the features, so now we end up with well structured, healthy, sound temperament working stock; and poorly structured, unhealthy, poor temperament show stock. One is bred for function and behaviour, the other is bred PURELY for looks
I'm always a fan of Australian cattle dog I have one at home and he's brilliant The great thing about these working breeds is they're ready to please they're happiest when working and impressing their human
Wendy Rowland This is a roaching topline not a 'sloping back'. The sloping back is a straight back but at an angle (diagonal) where a roached back would be curved. The hindquarters aren't shorter...they are angulated. If bred correctly and not extremely, angulationg gives the dog proper and long motion better for the purpose of herding and trotting all day. P.s. Dogs in the breed will not change greatly from one year to another. The rules were just changed last year.
Yes but most working dogs are bred for work, not for kennel club standards. I had a GSD x Border collie that proved to be a perfect farm dog of GSD appearance and in my view, robust conformation. It didn't need angulated legs to herd.
Wendy Rowland I am not saying you NEED angulated legs to have a good moving or herding dog and it is not to say that a dog with little angulation is not as efficient, but it is proven that a Gsd with moderately angulated hindquarters cover more ground faster than a dog with less angulation. You do have a point there though. I own a German Shepherd cross the Czech working and American show bloodlines.
Big LOL at Crufts putting out a ton of media implying that they'd be putting up a German Shepherd Dog that is not overly angulated this year...guess there's always next time, right? Shame, but at least I still have my straight-back German Shepherds.
I couldn't agree more. The show dog is condemned to a short life. Heartbreaking as the mind is still fully functioning. GSDs are amazing working dogs and deserve to be bred for ability like Border Collies. I had a GSD x collie working dog with the wisdom of both breeds.
@@lvsoad22 But why do they set the standard like that? During the founding days of the breed, their backs didn't look like that. Does it do the breed any good?
You'd think a commentator for dog shows would know more about breeds history right? Australian Shepherds are not from Australia. They were developed in America, pretty sure they only got called Aussies was because they threw a bit of Cattle dog in.
These dogs have been there since 9 in the morning. That is one hell of a long day by the time they get to the group at 6 in the evening. Especially for really big dogs who are not going to be able to sleep really comfortably at the venue.
The commentators don't seem to know much about some breeds so they make up some "facts" (e. g. Australian Shepherd). I'm also not a fan of the biase against some breeds and the development of those extremely fluffy coats on some variaties... BUT...It is nice though that we can watch all of this on youtube, thanks!
Why do these two plonkers get it wrong when announcing the various breeds and their descriptions, which they cant even read it out correctly, maybe taking a bit more water with it might help !!!!!!
The Australian cattle dog is such a beautiful and healthy breed!

But her hind legs were just fine... If anything it was German Shepherd's topline that needed fixing.
yeah they even call it frog legs its very wrong i prefer the working dog ... the working dog looks strong and normal
I totally agree with you it's a shame for the breed
That GSD's back. WTF? Show lines are animal cruelty. Working lines are the way to go
Agreed!!!
Totally agree. Animal cruelty.
The show lines are correct though, it says so in the breed standard...

Why are they still breeding GSDs with the sloping back and shorter back legs? Such breeding does the breed no favours.

Pazandrexthe germanshepherd. Our local police dog handler has a GSD with Czech looks. It is small and fast, the way he likes them.
Wendy Rowland certainly not I've seen them mixed with Belgians to get the slope less dramatic my mom has a gsd Rottweiler mix who is beautiful
What a wonderful smooth collie and sheltie!
bloody damn it! i thought dog shows weren't allowing GSD slopped backs anymore!! really disappointed. thumbs down then

I dont even understand why they were bred that way?? Why would people want to breed a dog to look like that??? It just seems cruel :(
Which dog?
So sad, they just look disturbing like this...
"It's a big ring for small legs" bless
39:26 That wink though. And what's wrong with that German shepherd's back?

Is it normal that anatolian sheperd dog? It looks so tired
he was tired. he had been on the go for 14 hours and he is an extremely large heavy dog but nonetheless he is healthy.

Crufts should support our BVA welfare rules by not admitting dogs with total tail amputations.
Wow

I used to have Lancashire Heelers and they are lovely and very cute dogs.

Frank Kane is the only knowledgeable commentator.
She only talks about the breeds she knows. What a fake.
