So I uh, I found these golden plates in my backyard and they very clearly say in historial Mcdonaldian Egyptian that we should drink only coffee. Nothing else!
Caffeine was forbidden until 2012 when Presidential candidate and Mormon Mitt Romney was seen drinking coke and the church changed divine law to help Romney's political chances.
In high school I had a few Mormon friends and some of them didn’t drink any caffeine at all (because of Church’s teachings) but most of them still drank caffeinated soda… they said it was kind of up to the individual to decide, except for coffee and tea which were a definite no. This was ~2004.
The word of wisdom also says you can drink beer, but now you can't drink beer. No one can explain the way it is interpreted because it makes no damn sense.
Throughout the Doctrine and Covenants there's a particular word that is used quite a lot. That word is "expedient". Because we have living Apostles and a prophet, things can be 'updated'. It's not about Pharisaical technical violations, but the Spirit of the Principle.
@@GldnClaw That's an eloquent way of saying "we change the rules when it suits us, so just ignore what it says in plain and simple English" (By the way, it doesn't use that word in the WoW, you can't just pull random words and say they fit anywhere).
The hypocrisy in the LDS church blows my mind. It's all about rules and lacks grace and compassion. That's why I left. This video did make me smile. Happy and blessed New Year to you.
I have never stepped into any mormon meeting and I have no intention to but I do love the book of mormon and the sealed portion which I read by myself in later life and cannot see any resemblance to what it teaches vs mormonism. When I read the prophets writings they seem so genuine just like the apostles and prophets in the bible who spur me on to want to be kind to my neighbor.
I’m in the process of weening myself off of caffeine after years of being very dependent/addicted to it… it’s really hard, and I hate how much I need it to function. I’m not Mormon or even Christian but I think it’s a good idea not to drink caffeine- at least not to the point where you come to need it to function. I would recommend people stay away from it or at least be very careful/mindful about it - regardless of what some book or prophet says.
The problem is that The Word of Wisdom doesn't mention the word "caffeine" at all, so if that's what they're concerned about, then they probably ought to at least call it out by name.
So I’m a Mormon and I don’t drink coffee, but I do drink caffeinated soda. I don’t drink coffee because I think that (in some cases) it can become your source of energy and if you don’t have coffee then it’s hard for you to get through your day. I don’t think of drinking coffee as horrific sin or anything I just choose not to drink it. But with caffeinated sodas, it kind of depends on the family, sometimes their parents won’t let them but it isn’t super common. I’ll try to get back to this with the difference but I’ll probably forget
As an active Latter-day Saint, I have an on-again-off-again relationship with caffeine. On the one hand, since I can't access my prescription for ADHD, a bucked up energy drink (400 mg caffeine) kinda helps, but also doesn't do much. On the other hand: I've had long stretches of not having any caffeine and I think I might be better off
I don't like Mormons or Mormonism, but I can logically understand that if "his word" says no hot drinks that hot coffee is a no-go. But, what about iced coffee? Anyway, I think you should check out Heretic. It's such a good movie.
I'm physiologically and psychologically addicted to coffee. Spend scads of money on the good stuff in small batches. *this does nooooot affeeeeect youuuuuuuuu*
Mathew 7:3-5 “first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.” Plank meaning “flaws”. This verse can be interpreted to mean no one is perfect so nobody has the time to nitpick others flaws when they could be addressing their own and not passing judgment. But what do I know 🙄

I know Mormons can't have coffee, but I didn't know they were allowed to drink caffeinanted sodas. Doesn't really make sense to me
They are now, but it used to be not allowed. None of it makes sense though, that's not just you.

Exactly🙌💯💯
“Hot drinks” could have meant moonshine back then. Not coffee or tea. More people are addicted to Diet Coke a cola than coffee
True🙌💯
Good luck, diva!
Brb. Calling coffee swat.
