Those MU hoses can be a pain in the rear half the time especially when it's cold out and the cable is stiff. The part where they hooked the 480 cables was cut aww...
i seen this a few times where a Amtrak engine brook down at the Home wood Amtrak station and then a IC/CN a engine had to be called and hook up to it .
07:30-08:30. It looks as though the Metra conductor has no idea how to hook up two pieces of rail equipment. Glad to see the UP workers know the hand gestures.
All the conductor is required to do is 'make the joint' or tie the two couplers together. All the remaining connections between two locomotives is the engineer's responsibility.
chooch1995 As a conductor, they still need to know how to use hand signals and make the joint. He was looking at one of the other crew members who was telling him what to do.
The problem here, James is two-fold. Yes, the conductor looks like a newbie....but the manager(s) were more than likely making him nervous. You know the old adage about too many cooks in the kitchen?
first a locomotive fire, then the MU line wants to be a pain, and the service vehicle dies. If these poor guys didn't have bad luck, they'd have no luck.
Ladies & Gentlemen, due to unforseen mechanical problems if you need to get to where you were going it maybe a good idea to start walking, if this is not a option try running...
I think the i saw the 176 at the EMD plant in LaGrange last summer waiting to get picked up. And later i might have seen it working on an IHB freight after it was fixed. Don't quote me but, my mind thinks i saw it. I think the loco fire would explain why i "might" have seen it when i did. Both conductors could be UP.. Metra has their own crews that work Metra exclusively and UP has some that work freight and passenger. Come where i work if you want to see brand new locos that have caught fire. Being on fire is not just for 40 year olds. :-)
+Standard Gauge Railroader the head end power (hep) is in operation. it generates power for lighting heating and ac on the coaches. The diesel engine is in full throttle but the excitation of the alternator controls the movement of the train. the more excitation the more power to the traction motors.
Yes. 205 was totaled in an accident down in Tennessee while en route to being rebuilt. The CSX train that was transporting it derailed and fell into a ravine with railcars crushing 205. It was scrapped on site. Also 215 and 118 are out of service due to fires. It is not known if they will return or be retired from service
@@msj191961 I think it was a couple of months ago. I heard from one of the Metra employees it is out of service. Bear in mind I heard this down the grapevine so I am not 100 certain it is out of service
@Acerailfan3101 F40PH a buddy of mine, who is a Metra engineer once told me that 215, unlike most of the other F40s, always had problems and would break down frequently. He did not like running that unit at all.
So it takes Metra an exorbitant amount of people to make a single MU connection, they run a dead consist with HEP which is a huge waste of fuel, and they need to jump the batteries on a car. Seriously, it should not take that long to make an MU connection! Why am I complaining? The MBTA can't even push snow with a 3000 horsepower locomotive. Can any commuter rail service get some sense?
Used to live in Mt. Prospect but in those days it was all C&NW f Units. Those Metra locos look tired and dirty. What ever happened to the pride of the company?
It's winter, Ken.....trains get dirty just like cars & trucks do...railroad tracks live outdoors & when it's raining/snowing out the wheels splash whatever they're rolling over onto the equipment......& it's not washed on a daily basis.
Metra has one line in greater Chicago area that is electrified. Let's finally get the system as a whole (directly via pantograph and catenary) ELECTRIFIED! Please get rid of the General Motors EMD junk! ...and FRA, please get rid of that stupid bell nonsense -- this is the 21st Century, not the 18th Century steam era! Most other countries on this planet don't have bells on their trains and their accident record is NO worse off than anyone else! (Look at Japan as an example) Thanks!
Danilo Peterson😡 don’t ever say that again, the FRA is not going to get rid of awesome EMDs, and they were not built in the 18th century, Metra’s were built in 1977

We had metra doubleheader locomotives since 2020
my old mail route, across from hearth and home. lots of body parts strewn along those tracks into AH

Not Metra. The conductor is UP. All the crews on this route are Union Pacific.

Dude! They were trying to teach the poor guy the"YMCA" , & "Roll" not make the joint!!!...then after that they'll all do the "Mambo #5"! .... ;-)~
I used to live one block from where the train was "parked".

Yeah, we keep getting no luck. I have no idea why.

Is 176 still in service today
Yes it is. It was actually completely rebuilt a year or so ago and now has the new lightning bolt paint scheme. It runs great from what I've heard.
Great camera and mic! What kind are they?
EMD F40PH-2 or 3.
@@WindyCityExpeditionist idiot he was talking about the camera not the locomotives

where was the fire i did not see any damage ?
Johnny64ism it was probably damaged on the inside

right I seen a brand new Locomotive burn after only 250 hours in service due to a oil line not properly secure
What is up with the trains sounding like they are at Run/Notch 8 when stopped or idling?

The reason why the fire in these locomotives because they have not been rehabbed and they are aging

It's as if the future has been predicted.. What's that movie about a metra train exploding next to a BNSF manifest? Well the metra train was on fire.,
Hope the transportation department does not see this video Can not get the train moving safely but we have to battery boost our cars.
