Thank you, thank you, thank you for watching this; it’s always amazing seeing people react to this masterpiece of cinema. I have been a fan of The Wicker Man since I saw it when I was about 15. It is arguably the greatest British horror film of all time & rightly so. Over the years, I visited several of the filming locations in Scotland; Plockton where Sgt Howie lands is an amazing little village near Kyle of Lochalsh on the north west coast. Back in 2007 I had the great honour of meeting Sir Christopher Lee. I’ve been a fan of his for as long as I could remember, thanks due to his incredible body of work with Hammer Films. We had a lengthy conversation about those films & the production of The Wicker Man. Right up until to his death, Lee remained adamant that there was a much longer cut of this film. Rumour has it, British Lion films disposed of hundreds of reels; one of which was this much longer cut of The Wicker Man. Then in 2013, we got The Final Cut of The Wicker Man. This involved a restoration of the original theatrical print & also the few additional scenes that had been re-edited into it from the directors cut several years earlier. Which ever version you watch, The Wicker Man always leaves a last impression on you. Fun Fact: when I was at first school (age 5-10 here in the UK at the time) we had an annual May Day Fair…….complete with May Pole Dancing. What can I say, I grew up in a village in the Yorkshire Dales. Several places in Cornwall still hold festivals around that time of the year. The most famous being the Obby 'Oss festival, which is held in Padstow every May Day.
My big disappointment with Midsommar is that it had to rely on gore to sell the horror. What makes Wickerman so effective is that it's nuanced. You don't really know how to judge the villagers or their society.
I remember watching this late at night on HBO about 15 years ago and thought it was so delightfully weird and then the shocking ending bothered me for days 😨☺ "Midsommer" has a similar vibe
Most of the folk customs in the film are still practiced all over England and are actually growing in popularity. Especially May Day parades, rapper dancing, morris dancing, maypole dancing etc etc
This has SO much “Midsommar” vibe , makes sense, pagan cults , it’s creepy!! Yeah you’ll love the nick cage spin kick to the woman’s face in the remake lol
Funny you should mention Inspector Clouseau; the actress who played Willow( the landlord’s daughter) was actually married to Peter Sellers for a time. Great reaction as always❣️
All the music actually makes sense, because song, dance and music in general have been an important part of many, if not all, pagan religions. And even in monotheistuc religions music has been a part of church service for centuries. It's all very interesting.
I LOVE that you did this movie!!! I adore this film. It is a great folk horror film bc it haunts you and it stays with you. If he had just had sex, he wouldn't have been a virgin and would have lived. The remake is trash.....and don't get me started on MIDSOMMER......that ridiculously puffed up film can't hold a candle to this. It is the dollar store attempt, but it has to fall back on gross because it can't deliver real suspense, real horror or real....well ANYTHING.
Excellent review and nice to see an American perspective on a British classic. You shoukd perhaps put up a spoiler alert though as once the ending is revealed then that's it for most folks.
I'm so glad new people are still discovering this masterpiece of a movie! It's so utterly bizarre and original, there's nothing quite like it. The original is one of my favourite movies, but the remake is worth watching as well. One of the funniest movies ever made for sure.😂
there are still some bits of scotland still that christian, most of it has a more sensible approach to religion. apart from when it comes to certain football (soccer) teams ;)
This one is a musical acid trip. In the horror world, it's held in decent regard but I'm not a fan. Your commentary, however, made this movie hysterical 😂
a was riding my motorcycle on the west coast scotland near the border england, and a seen 1 of these in 2012 a thought just keep going, someone said its just a tradition, tradition are not al not be stopping, get carter is another classic 1972, get carter remake is crap, gladiator is ok but, a still prefer the fall of the roman empire made in the 60s, cant beat the old school
There was a disappointing sequel, the Wicker Tree, but it's canon, Howie called it true, the crops still failed and they burned the Lord in a Wicker Man.
Brilliant film, unfortunately this pagan, sacrificial religion is similar to the practices of today's elites, including leaders of both main 'Christian' churches.
Why paganism was largely abandoned and should be rejected to this very day. Say what you want about Christianity, human sacrifice is an evil act. Jesus Christ came and died for our salvation (John 3 : 16-17), so such barbarism depicted in this movie can be banished. Fun Fact: Sir Christopher Lee said that he considers this to be one of his greatest performances. Location Location Fact: Filmed in 1972 in Galloway, Scotland. There was some controversy when Galloway was labelled as the "bleakest place on Earth" by Britt Ekland. The producers were forced to apologize to the locals. Evil Eye Fact: The "evil eye" rowing boat, which takes Sergeant Howie (Edward Woodward) to and from his plane, was not constructed for this movie. It belonged to a resident of Plockton. Upon seeing it, the producers decided it would suit the movie. The boat survived until 2004 when it was destroyed in a storm.
Lots of pagans....alive and well and not sacrificing anybody. Christianity has killed WAAAAAY more people and continues to. No pagan human sacrifices. PAGAN simply means pastoral....as in agricultural/of the fields. Christianity stole EVERYTHING from pagan religions. Christianity needs to mind its own damn busniess and let people be.
Britt Ekland was completely correct with her comment and should have told those who demanded an apology to go and suck a large one. It is laughably easy to give a Jock the hump.... remark that Scotland or a part of it, is shit and behold! the entirety insular moronic nation wants you dead..... yet they flee the country themselves as soon as they are able, usually for England, but maintain how 'wonderful' Scotland is til their dying day, lived somewhere in England lol.
Pfft! How many people did Christians kill, burn, and torture again? Not only do you have the witch hunts, but Catholics executing Protestants and the other way around during the reformation. And all the "holy wars" that are being waged to this day. Paganism doesn't hold a candle to Christianity when it comes to barbarity.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for watching this; it’s always amazing seeing people react to this masterpiece of cinema.

This is a far better movie than Midsommar, which that movie clearly took influence from.
My big disappointment with Midsommar is that it had to rely on gore to sell the horror. What makes Wickerman so effective is that it's nuanced. You don't really know how to judge the villagers or their society.
It also loosely influenced Shutter Island, which is I film I love.
Lol no. This my first time watching this movie and I love past movies this was disturbing but no no.
Midsommar is trash.
I remember watching this late at night on HBO about 15 years ago and thought it was so delightfully weird and then the shocking ending bothered me for days 😨☺ "Midsommer" has a similar vibe
Dude went unprepared. Strange flick. Love the reaction.
yes he did
1:40 Hydroplane, common in sparsely populated areas with lots of islands.
nice
Hardest laugh I ever had was in the remake when Nic Cage in a bear suit punches someone.😂
you must be mistaken there has never been a remake, No not ever lalalalalalalalala i can't hear you 😉 🤣
It's the most absurdly hilarious movie ever made. 😂Never fails to cheer me up!
That movies a guilty pleasure of mine
Best folk horror movie ever made. The remake fumbles it in every single way imaginable.
Most of the folk customs in the film are still practiced all over England and are actually growing in popularity. Especially May Day parades, rapper dancing, morris dancing, maypole dancing etc etc
This is a great movie. I like it where they don’t spoon feed you the information. You have to be bewildered like the characters in the story
One of the best little known horror films out there.
Little known? Maybe in America, but it’s regarded and considered globally as very well known and the film that launched folk horror.
It's one of the best known and critically acclaimed films in America as well.
@@Firefoxy-rz1nwso only ‘little known’ in the mind of Deadpunk then 😂
Probably ain't well known to many people under 40. (I know loads of people who wouldn't go anywhere near a film this old...sadly)
@@davehoward22 It's known to horror fans. I don't know about the general public.
Congratulations on reacting to one of the Best British films of all time!
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the reaction to this iconic British film. Stay tuned for more exciting content!
I’m pumped for when you do Suspiria.
This has SO much “Midsommar” vibe , makes sense, pagan cults , it’s creepy!! Yeah you’ll love the nick cage spin kick to the woman’s face in the remake lol

Good call!
She was also married to Rod Stewart at one point .
Correction , wasnt married but was in a relationship with him .
Whenever she's interviewed about this film she constantly moans about her body double in the nude dance scene
Nice 😂 You ever see Dragnet (1987) with Tom Hanks and Dan Akroyd? It has a fun cult in it too.
I traditionally watch this on May day, get drunk and chant along "cuckoo, cuckoo, wild bird are you!" Lmfao
lol

oh wow!!!!!
Being Scottish makes this movie even more disturbing...it always gives me chills.
love this movie, first saw it in the early 80's
This is one of the 70’s greatest horror films…..the remake is one of the worst movies ever 😂
Hell yeahhhhh!!!!
SHOWDOWN 🍿🍿🍿
I just love this movie 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 ACAB for apples!!
Excellent review and nice to see an American perspective on a British classic. You shoukd perhaps put up a spoiler alert though as once the ending is revealed then that's it for most folks.

Ha, please tell me youve rewatched this movie since this viewing. It's so good on repeat watches
Omg I love this movie
Great reaction and top reference to hip hop legend Hitman Howie Tee. I assume that was intentional. 😊
there are still some bits of scotland still that christian, most of it has a more sensible approach to religion. apart from when it comes to certain football (soccer) teams ;)
Your commentary is better than any dialog in the movies you watch. 😂😂😂
thanks!

2:51 😂 Already laughing so hard.
LOL
Classic of the folk horror genre, very influencial film.
Oh thank God you watched this unless you want to laugh at Nicholas Cage being tortured.
There was a disappointing sequel, the Wicker Tree, but it's canon, Howie called it true, the crops still failed and they burned the Lord in a Wicker Man.
oh wow
Tree not three
Julius Caesar is i think the only source of information on Wicker Men being a thing, but how trustworthy his descriptions are is questionable
COOL!
Thanks for doing this film, friend, I liked your reaction. Now I'm gonna watch you do Rosemary's Baby, I subbed today..see y'all later.
thank you
The song “Corn Rigs” is about having sex in a ditch
Haha, right? Who knew a ditch could be so romantic!
Party like it's 1986!
🤘🌎❤
nice !lol
This is a fantastic movie! Dare I say a perfect movie? Yes. Yes I dare!❤❤
loved it
Dude You are The Man. You had me Rolling with Your Commentary.😂
Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the video and my commentary. Your support means a lot to me.
No, this isn't typical of '70s music......unless you're the member of a wicken cult.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
🙃🙃🙃🙃
Brilliant film, unfortunately this pagan, sacrificial religion is similar to the practices of today's elites, including leaders of both main 'Christian' churches.
