I love how there's still an ongoing internet battle over these cars after all these years. Both cars were good bang for the buck and both had their pros and cons as do all cars. One thing that I didn't like about the F bodies was those damn buttons on the radio and that infamous dash cracking. The Stangs had some crap too. All in all fun cars for the money. Some don't realize that you get what you pay for and these weren't "high quality" cars by any means when comparing them to what's built today or the last 5-7 years. A blast to drive nonetheless.

The last time they put the small block OHV V8 engine into a mustang was 1995, with both the 302 (5.0) in the Mustang GT/Cobra and the 351 (5.8) in the Mustang Cobra R.

  • @YZ-YZ-
    @YZ-YZ- 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Faster does not automatically mean better. Everybody factors in the overall package of the car when making a choice, otherwise we'd all just be riding liter bikes if speed was all that mattered.
Ford just had a better package, that's why it outsold the Camaro despite costing more in similar spec.
The LS1 was decent for it's time but not everyone wants a massive car with Cavalier interior. Chevy even left a hump in the passenger floor board to clear the driveline, and didn't even bother to put a proper dual exhaust on it that's how cheap and lazy they were. The Camaro looks like it's suited more towards floating on water than driving on pavement.
But yes Ford guys need to admit the Mustang was slower, even the N/A Cobras - although they still put up a good fight. By 03-04 the Mach 1 was able to keep up and in some cases beat LS1 cars and the supercharged Cobras wiped their asses with them.
The moment you sit in a Mustang, turn the key to watch those gauges sweep past the SVT logo, and hear that unmistakeable exhaust note, you know you're in something special. Can't say the same about a Camaro.

4.6 2v vs ls1, yeah this outcome was expected. It's hard to get power out of a 2v 4.6 if you're going all motor. The 3v 4.6 is much better if you're naturally aspirated

What I hate is how Camaro fans keep saying that their Camaros make 310 HP to the wheels. They are on an optimistic Dyno because you just seen what they make, Around 290 at the wheel. And don't try to say I have the SS so it makes more. The ram air induction does nothing when you're not moving and even when you are moving it doesn't add much power. Its more of like a pep boys add on mod that gm could add and make more money off of you.The cars, Camaro, Firebird, Trans am were underated,I owned a 2002 Camaro SS 6spd so I know.Ram air or not they make the same power on a dynojet or mustang Dyno because they are the most accurate and they don't inflate your ego like other dynos

Gee I dunno, maybe it has to do with price. They are both in the same price range, barely $1000 price difference. That's how most cars are classed together to compare as direct competitors. How much was a brand new Cobra back then?
Edit: I decided to look it up. The 1999 Cobra MSRP when brand new, was $28,000. That's over $5000 more than the one tested here, the GT. The Z28 still beats the Cobra in performance as well.

In these yrs the Z28 was pitted against the GT. The 6cyl Camaro had no real designation and was pitted against the 6 cyl Mustang. The SS was the performance option just like the Cobra was to the Stang. The SS was the Highest rated spec. HOWEVER, Chevy admitted they downplayed the HP rating in Camaro cause you could get the Camaro for LOTS cheaper than the Vette which had the same motor and they worried rightfully so that people would buy the camaro over the stang if they wanted just pure power. Sure the vette was little better but to a true racer that would be semantics and could get the maro much cheaper (and parts LOL)

I test drove both of these back then. The Camaro was a better driving car.. but was just too hard to see out of. You felt like the Camaro was ten foot longer from behind the wheel. The Camaro was a few hundred pounds heavier too, which did not help. The Mustang was easier to live with as a DD and that's why it sold better. Quality control wasn't amazing on either of these cars, but the Camaro I test drove had a lower dash with plastic damage that would cut you- it looked like somebody took an old fashioned cheese grater to it. This is coming from a Mustang owner the Camaro while having a few quality issues as far as I'm concerned completely stomped this mustang also whoever launched this Camaro didn't know what they were doing
Also want to point out that the Camaro all the way back in 93 was using a three link live axle with Panhard rod that Ford would tout and the s197 which is what I currently own 12 years later in 2005
I mean this thing is making 330hp had better suspension geometry than the sn95's 4 Link live axle and the Camaro was lower and wider which is usually a good formula for keeping the tires planted.
What killed the Camaro is that like today Chevy kind of neglected the occupants the interior on these didn't age well when it was new and the interior plastics weren't long for this world not to mention and this is sadly a side effect of GM making the fourth gen F bodies a sports car like as possible is the fact that getting in and out of a new edge was a lot easier than any fourth gen and to head off anybody at the pass I had a 96 Camaro RS and a 2001 Mustang and I can tell you the mustangs interior has aged just a little bit better or at the very least didn't disintegrate even though you have to just avoid looking at the place where the center stack attaches to the console because those two dudes who designed those parts weren't talking ever

I had a friend with an 2002 SS that ran a 12.8 showroom stock with stock tires and all, that’s what a 03-04 Terminator Cobra ran with a supercharger, albeit with less cubes. The Mustang has always been just a tad more user friendly and reliable. They always seemed to priced a tad less which always helps. All in all, I’d be happy with either one these days.

I have a 2001 GT Bullitt. It's a well known fact that the 2v mod motor has terrible heads that run out of breath while others are still winding out. Porting helps, but not enough. You need trickflow TW heads to truly overcome the breathing issues. So, you gotta throw money at a 99-04 GT just to get it ready to run close to the 4v. It will outflow a stock 4v with said heads. That'll get you running with those LS motors...as long as you force induction, because the 4.6 low end torque isn't enough either, lol. Yeah, you can beat lots of cars in a 99-04 GT, just slow cars. You wanna go fast? Heads, forced induction, (preferably turbo). It is what it is. At least you'll sound and look better than an F-body. No offense, the Ls motor is terrific, I just love the style of my Mustang, despite the extra money needed to go fast.

That would be nice, the new "tech." on these engines is what makes these new Mustangs faster today. That and the fact that today's Muscle Cars are allowed to make 400+hp stock/from-factory.. :)

I'm out, there's too many Chevy fanboys on here in a race to suck each other off. They can't accept that Mustangs have always been a better car than the Crapmaro in all it's varieties.

    • @boondocksaint18

Necrometalfist A Fanboy would be someone who refuses to see the fact about a car because of them liking it I like cars . dont care who makes them as long as there good . I daily drive a E36 BMW 325i . The only fanboying going on in here is you . I made claims of how the cars stack up at the Track followed by me posting not 1 but 3 , 5 MIn + long videos of me racing everything from the fox bodys,Mach 1,N/a Cobra,2v GTs,roush stage 2 , and 3v Gts . Thus backing up my words with my own actions in a 1998 z28 .
Also its a fact we 2 so called GM fanboys were discussing this. I told him that I did not think a Stock 96 Lt1 Z28 should be beating 3v GTs,N/a Cobras and Mach 1s . Something no fucking fanboy would say . Because All they would say is stuff you have been saying . Stuff like a 2v GT is faster than a 3v gt ,which is nonsense .
Your choice if you wanna leave on extremely ignorant and defensive post .

Just personal preference actually....my first car as a freshman in high school was a 2000 SS with an LS1 never did anything to it performance wise, but had nothing but problems....I sold it and bought a 96 Firebird Formula with an LT1...I had a job and since i was still in school I put all my money from my job into it....Only problem I had was the damn optispark got wet (notorious on LT engines) it lasted me all the way through high school until I flipped it a few weeks after graduation.

I agree mustang sound awesome. There is a reason for that. The Heads are made to produce the mustangs " sound " .The New Coyote 5.0 is the 1st 1 in a long time to ditch that and be built for speed. If you want a Mustang that sounds good and has some speed. Pick up a 3v Gt not a 2v Gt . Those 2v are so slow . To me I prefer the go to the sound. + I supercharger or cam most of my cars witch completely changes the sound anywho .

why is there an argument camaros are better hands down. Cobra mustang pshh let me supercharge an ls1 and it beats your new mustang 5.0s. The new z28 2014 beats the boss the gt500 and the gt all in a straight line so whatever. Chevy also makes Americas fastest sports car in the Corvertte zr1. Not counting like exotics like the henneesey viper gt even though it uses the corvette zr1s engine ;). The ford gt is good but is 150,000 dollar car and is built in Germany.

People bought (and are still buying) the Mustangs because of looks and quality. The 99-04 Mustang was a step above the same gen Camaro in every aspect of a "drivers car". It might not have it all in performance in the beginning , but the 03/04 Cobra's sure made up for that.

Oh look at me Iam old and care so much about comfort that I choose the mustang even though it is slower, unreliable ,ugly, stupid, boring, and way weeker....idiots if your a real gear head you get a CAMARO all the time it beats the mustang in everything and the reason why the hump is on passenger is because the car is so sleek that their is nowhere else to put it. The engine is low for better center gravity and pushed back for more balance as a sports car should be that is the recipe to a real performance car that's why bmw Ferrari Mercedes use this recipe and mustang no because it's always been a girl car no girl would drive the CAMARO my wife is actually scared of it .a 6 cylinder yes but they will still be like... I can't see over the dash ohhhh... but a mustang a girl wouldn't care getting an 8 because their so week anyway and thats final

Let me give you some history, but before that I'll say this.. I like both cars, their is nothing I hate about them, if I were to choose between the two, I'd choose the mustang, a few bolt-ons & you unleash a beast. It's funny how people like you say the mustang is for a "girl", I wish you would've said that to Carol Shelby (RIP), Steve Saleen, & Jack Roush, they would have laughed at you so hard in your face. You ever wonder why the camaro stopped production in 2002? Or the trans am discontinued in 2002? I'll tell you why.. Because in 2003 Ford Released the all new 2003 Ford "Mustang" Svt Cobra, code name "terminator"... Chevy knew about it, and they didn't have anything to back up their plate but a little ls shit motor... Yea that's right, I can see you getting red, so they stopped before it was too late. and to this day, their is this rivalry going on, about who's faster, I honestly don't care, I just wanted to remind you of some history before you keep most likely commenting on every mustang, or camaro vs mustang video you see....

Yea, it doesn't take much to wake them up...Gears will do wonders. A local guy has a 2V new edge and with gears, X pipe, tune, and sticky radials he ran a 12.8. He's got more bolt-ons now and stage 3 cams (can't remember the specs) making about 280 to the wheels, and he's outran 11 second cars on the street.
