My problem is not the vocals. My problem is that the song starts out about twice as fast as fast, and then suddenly the bridge is much slower than the original. Makes it very jarring and nowhere near as enjoyable. Now Revenge Party was adapted well.
@@bartholomewmontgomery2494 Honey, there's two of those five minutes away from my house. It's probably better to take that walk to the pharmacy right next to them.
I'd definitely agree that it's disappointing compared to the original that they slowed down for calculust instead up picking up the tempo there. If it hadn't messed up the best part of the song, I'd actually say that this version sounds nicer overall. The other problem i have with this version though, is that in their effort to make a better sounding song, they lost a thematic point of the story in the song. The original music helped convey the sense that Cady is a lonely girl from Africa who just has absolutely no idea how American teenagers operate.
Both versions of the song are bad, tough the Broadway version is indeed way more impressive vocal-wise, the issue is that the song itself is cringe and ridiculous, which is a typical problem with movie-to-broadway adaptations, they put emphasis on stupid things just to make more songs, in the original Mean Girls movie Cady is not this geeky and pathetic, and the moment when she meets Aaron is treated with relative normalcy, yes there's the music sting and she blurts out that he's cute but she immediately composes herself and answers the teacher's question, the musical blows this out of proportion making Cady seem weird and stalky, which goes against the plot by justifying why Regina tells Aaron that Cady is stalking him.
I understand why some people dislike it, but this song might be my favorite. It sound authentic, sweet, inexperienced and awkward, like a real high school dorks. There are other songs with high energy already, so I like how there is a chill, soft one here especially when it fits the character.
LITERALLY!! and people hate on me for liking this song! 😭 i feel like it’s an authentic and raw portrayal of what a first love is… it’s not exaggerated.. it’s awkward bc you don’t know how to go abt it! and this song captures that essence PERFECTLY!!
@@Isabel_1641Right? I understand that the actress was not a trained musical performer, but this style suits the character better. Regardless of the singer's abilities.
You should listen to the original Broadway version. Sooo much more energy, emotion, and vocal variety. I love this musical and this is a much more modern but watered down version without any of the fun Erika Henningsen brought to it. Honestly, I listened to this album on repeat for her energy alone. Same with the Hasbin Hotel musical - I love her as Charlie.
I love this song and it was amazing that those hearts appeared on the board. I also loved it when Cady was swinging in her desk and when she was dancing.
@Jus_sumbody the version is like doodoo doodoo. But on a more serious note, it's not that its just different vibes. On a storytelling perspective, the original version ties in her childhood in Africa showing her being as wild as tiger when in love and, to my knowledge bc it was a long time since i listened to the original, the beats of the original have African influences in it. The newer version of stupid with love does not at all include those themes, and the style change undermines the songs entire title and purpose, being Stupid with love. There's a sequence where she goes "YES!" When Aaron gets a question correct, why would she get so excited for someone else getting a correct point on a math question? Because she's stupidly in love with him! The rest of the lyrics all share the same goal of trying to show why Cady NEEDS Aaron. She tried having crushes but it didn't work out, so she decided to close herself off and focus on math to protect herself. Now, her love for math is what is bringing her to a new crush and she feels like he's her true love. I'm not a singer or a vocal expert, but as part of the audience, her singing was not it. Even if they wanted to change the style, the singing fell flat, was emotionless, and did not portray any of the lyrics it's trying to sing.
