Philippines Traditional Cultural Dance - ITIK-ITIK, Filipino Folk Dance; Carassauga, Toronto 2015

ITIK-ITIK, Filipino Folk Dance - The itik-itik is a dance from Surigao, in which the movements of a duck are imitated. An itik is a species of duck.
According to folklore, this traditional dance was first performed by a young woman named Kanang who was the best dancer in the province of Surigao del Norte. At a baptismal reception, she was asked to perform and she improvised her dance steps to imitate the way a duck walks and splashes water on its back to attract a mate.
Filipino children sing a fun Tagalog version that involves simply repeating the lyrics “Itik-itik sa Manila Zoo…” over and over again.

The dancers are supposed to mimic how the ducks move. This dance originated in Pateros, Bulacan where raising ducks was the main livelihood. Thus, "itik" means duck. "Itik-itik" means duck-like.

School Escuela St.Pitogo Guadalupe Makati...i have picture wearing that dress only colour was different combi of light pink n purple...I'm going 64 now and it's wonderful to reminisce my younger happy days...days of innocence and play...😍🤩🤗

Thanks for uploading our traditional folk dances. We're being taught how to dance these folk dances. As you can see it's influence more by Hispanic folk songs and dances except the Muslim dance in the South. Sad to say no FilAm Pinoy teach these to their kids except in some universities in the US.
