Before serving in the military, I thought I was simply afraid of many enemy attacks, but after serving in the army, the cold, wet, and hunger are the most annoying and fearful. This movie expresses it well. Caused PTSD.
Loved this movie. All Quiet on the western front offers unflinching brutality of war while others war films we have seen over the years romanticized warfare and heroism in Warfield which isn't exactly true. And the ending is so brutal and slightly unnecessary (not in a bad way from movie's pov). The original film (1930) already has 2 oscars in it's belt and this one right here has 9 nominations so far. Incredible piece of film!!! My wife couldn’t stand watching it as it was such a strong emotional roller coaster, but nevertheless just a beautiful film. One for the ages.
Very well shot and very well created movie from top to bottom. It really brought the book to life and I think it's better than the Original AQOTWF from the 70's. The Gewher 98s and Saint-Chamond Tanks were awesome to see on the screen.
Don't mean to sound like a brat, but the original film adaption was from the 30's. You're refering to the second one, which was indeed from the 70's. Effects-wise, this Netflix adaption was good in most cases. The sounds, the mud, the explosions; pretty impressive. But what bothered me the most was that unlike the first two movies, we weren't given much time with its characters in this one, even the missing ones like Corporal Himmelstoss and Paul's family. The 70's film lays down the characters and you get to know them one by one, sometimes only through context. As the movie progresses, each one of Paul's friends die in numerous ways like a machine gun, gas, or artillery until Paul is the last one standing, eventually becoming the "old man" of his newer and much younger platoon. Unfortunately, he will die in the final days of the war, ending with nothing intense. Just a sniper bullet to the head; another statistic. Sorry for my tiny rant. There are so many other things that I like the original films over Netflix, and I'm sure that it too does have its goods. But I don't feel the true AQOTWF experience in this one and instead another simply WW1 movie.
One solid movie, I don't tend to like subtitles but this one was well worth watching. This is probably one of the closest representation of what it really would have been like that any of us are going to get without experience for real
It was just another war movie in the beginning, but hooks you right in the middle of it. At the end, I gave it a standing ovation clap. Brilliant movie. Just kinda Depressing seeing all the brutality of war.
