This takes me back to those sad days of my youth when I lost the girl that meant the world to me. She was my shining light that illuminated the dark world that surrounded me.Sometimes I wonder if it was just a dream that never happened, because it was far too good to be true. But when it ended, my whole world came crashing down and crushed me. Perhaps I was a fool to hold someone with such high regard. Foolish to make someone your universe. Disregarding the consequences of what would happen if things didn’t work out. Now here I am, listening to the same song that brought me comfort back then. Though it’s been over ten years. I still can’t help but hold back tears and try my best to keep myself from letting go. To the point of making my face and throat hurt from all the emotions that I feel when I hear Black. Thank you so much for making this wonderful video. Sad memories or not, at least I’m still alive enough to be able to enjoy this beautiful song.
When Ed sang Black back then it was life or death. He wasn’t kidding. That’s why so many people who were fans stayed fans and are still fans. He was not gonna be denied and PJ was not denied. The world took notice. They’re a study in rock n’ roll and as good as any British Invasion band in any era. I believe bassist Jeff Ament when he says “In 20 years of playing live we’ve not once showed up and just phoned it in”. If you wanna really study rock n’roll jump down the Pearl Jam rabbit hole with both ears open. They never disappoint.
I love Eddie Vedder so much. His voice is ridiculous. I feel like he has to work so hard to restrain himself or his massive voice will shake the world apart.
Beth your videos are so informative! I'm not a singer, but I'm a musician, and you make me want to get more into singing. You seem like a very good teacher, and you're very pretty. Keep up the good work!
There's an incredible video from 2008 of Pearl Jam covering The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" that *definitely* shows how well Eddie's voice held up. He never lost the pain and expression that comes through in his singing, but it seems like he improved his control over the screamier stuff.
I learned so much from this and I'm not even a singer, just a huge Pearl Jam, you also didn't pause to often and when you did it was a short, insightful, synopsis. Huge props.

When Pearl Jam was boycotting Ticketmaster, they would play at really small bars, basically unannounced. I'll never forget this, this long haired dude in sunglasses that was sitting in the next table disappeared. And then I noticed woman after woman after woman being sorta magnetized to the stage -- it was that dude. It was Eddie Vedder -- those chics flocked to his voice like bees to honey, it was amazing to witness. And I have to say, he has the best voice I've ever heard.
Eddie is the man. When a legend in Chris Cornell listened to this still fresh and unwanting singer and said that he has to be in Temple of the Dog with him....that says a lot about Eddie's voice.
"I would be interested to see if he struggled with losing his voice..." If only there was some way to see videos of him singing for the last 20 years. Hmm....
So glad someone reacted to this! Glad you pointed out the importance of the emotion in this performance, because it really is the key why Eddie is such a great performer!

After many years of listening an watching....., I consider you my first, best and nicest "vocal Coach-reactings". Keep going!!
Yay! Was waiting for this one. Thank you!! 💖👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Excellent song choice. What an amazing performance.
You should make more Grunge reviews... This is AWESOME!
Thank you Jimi
7:30-7:34 "Whoa...he's emotional." Yup, that pretty much sums it up! haha
The ending of this song always leaves me exhausted, you can feel every freakin nanosecond of it. Pure emotion. Love you EV!
Great video! Eddie Vedder is a phenomenal singer and is brilliant at expressing pain through his vocals.
You can tell Eddie vedda wants to go nuts with his emotions. Seeing him sitting there he looks like a caged animal
Vedda? From the east coast my friend? I like it.
Eddie Vedda? It's Vedder, not Vedda.
@@Danimal77 it's fine...goes with a song called Betta Man! 😂😂😂
@@Danimal77well sorry for my spelling mistake
He was like that for the whole set; practically vibrating the whole time. Then they destroyed the room during Porch haha.
Soundgarden - Beyond The Wheel (Live at Paramount 1992)
Yass
In Germany 1990 much better!!!
Rock On! Beyond the Wheel and Searching With My Good Eye Closed
@@IvanLysenko-93 No
Been waiting for this one! This song, this band, this performance. Legendary. Vedder is the king.
I learned so much from this and I'm not even a singer, just a huge Pearl Jam, you also didn't pause to often and when you did it was a short, insightful, synopsis. Huge props.
Thanks 😊
I remember remember rewinding my Walkman over and over and over again listening to this one. Those feeling he was able to pump through the headphones to me in my times of distress hit me hard. Real hard. Great choice Beth. Rock on.
Pantera - Cemetery Gates (Live 1997)
LET'S MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
I doubt it she's gonna react on that lol but it will be epic if she does
Almost anything by Phil Anselmo would make for a great reaction video. Dude's got a set of pipes.
Mike McKeen she did walk. She was not thrilled
@@michaelhuff8571 Almost anything lol.
His live stuff is really hit or miss.
a cover of a Smith's song
Beth: "what was" was a very good vocal shape
Me: Oh just wait for the next line.
Please do nirvana - where did you sleep last night, unplugged
now this is a suggestion!
Eddie gives me goosebumps. Multiple goosebumps. Incredible emotion in every syllable. Astonishingly Saturated!
One of my favourite songs ever, you can almost taste his emotions in the way he delivers every line
Man, this is one of those songs that makes my eyes begin to water and my jaw begin to hurt. Such a fantastic song that I’ve listened to on many sad occasions.
“If you look closely you can actually pinpoint the exact moment his heart breaks in two.”
(9:23 > 9:43)
Has he ever mentioned who this song is about? My guess is, no.
Hey You 96
He has. A girl named Elise
@@paliboy93 well fuck you Elise, and thank you for this song xD
@@paliboy93 I bet she's regretting her life choices...
@@Misrabelle I don't regret her life choices...this song was instrumental in surviving my youth...its only competition for best breakup song is Black Tee Shirt by Ben Folds Five (but it still beats it by a country mile).
Also the last remaining king of the grunge era
Ed Loomingly Mark Arm and to a lesser extent Tad Doyle and Mark Lanegan
Soooo disrespectful to Lanegan and Daniel Johns (amongst others).
@@Vic-Vega i was on my way to the replies *just* to mention Lanegan. such an under-rated songwriter, singer & all round top person. LOVE him *&* the fact that he's still going, remains brilliant *&* relevant (to some of us...).
Listening to this literally makes me cry every single time. The emotion he brings to this performance is unreal
The ad lib at the end is godly and emotionally intense.
I've been waiting so long for you to react to this 😊
React to Pantera - Cemetery Gates, ppppplease
Julio César Rampanelli I thought this channel was for like skilled vocalists
collin ignorant you are, you obviously know nothing about skill then
Thanks for this reaction. Been waiting ❤️
I remember recording this unplugged on my vhs in my tweens. I was obsessed with pearl jam and so in love with Eddie and his voice. All these years later this still gives me chills. So talented.
I love that you can see the moment she gets so wrapped in the emotion that she forgets to do any comentary, and every time she trys to start again he does something else awesome that steals her attention. This is truly one of the best live performances out there
here Beth is just gently analysing Eddie's choices and caring for his vocal chords while I cry into my shoes.
React to Temple of the dog - Say Hello to Heaven!!! Chris Cornell at his finest!!!
Yeeeeeéeeeeeeeees
SAY HELLO TO HEAVEN!! You will love this song
Amazing song... it's seems like his voice will soar forever
There is an incredible video of Say Hello 2 Heaven from like 91? 92? I believe it is from the same show as the Love Hate Love AiC video.
Show Me How To Live Audioslave sounded like one of his most honest songs as well.
Great reaction :) , and you are killing me with that kimono!
It's fun to dissect everything he's doing and I really appreciate the content!!!! And what's amazing is he just does it naturally, without thought,, and connects to everyone who hears it!
Over the last year, you have given me a new way to enjoy music. I really enjoy vocals now. So much I never noticed!!! Thank you!
OMG I love Eddie so much! And this is my favorite Pearl Jam song. 😍
yes, he can still sing that song almost exactly, his voice a bit deeper now.
@Beth Roars Great Performance by that legend Eddie Vedder!! Love Pearl Jam!!! 👍
Eddies new music / voice sounds amazing!! Black makes me cry everytime!
He can hit the notes with the same brilliance. Definitely sound great live.
Hmm....
Haha yeah but i can see why she picked this one tho very emotional, as all the other Eddie Black live perfomances
So glad someone reacted to this! Glad you pointed out the importance of the emotion in this performance, because it really is the key why Eddie is such a great performer!
This is an old video but I missed when it came out.You are hands down one of the best vocal coaches to watch because you explain everything so well that even people with no idea about singing can understand. When I watch other coaches I usually think they pause too much but with you, after someone does something good I'm like "pause and talk on that".I want you to pause and explain more not less such great videos.
