Now, downsides of the Phantoka/Mistika builds are the same as with any Inika build, but I kinda like Inika builds to be honest.

I think if I ever get this Gali I’ll definitely replace her mask with One of the G2 masks and I’d Swap the hunchback with Onua Otherwise I think these are good sets. I can personally see the continuation from the original Hau and the adaptive Hau
I honestly think Gali Mistika is the best Gali there has ever been.. At least with Gen 1 as I've never owned any G2 Gali figures. I like the Mata Gali quite a bit but then I dislike Gali Nuva 2002.. She's so Ugly!! Same for Lewa Nuva 2002.. Just eye sores.. Onewa is okay, Kopaka isn't that bad and then Pohatu and Tahu are the only Toa Nuva that I think look really good, but the Mata looked better for all of them.. Especially Lewa and Gali.. But yeah I like Gali Mistika more than Nuva and around the same as Mata, Mistika Gali looks so cool! I love all of the Tahu's to ever be released, all of them are awesome to me so I can't really say I like Mistika Tahu more or less than any of the others.. 🤔 I don't know.. But I love it. Onua Mistika again I like waayy more than Onua Nuva, but I like Mata more.
I always really liked Tahu's Mistika design. Onua and Gali looked dreadful, but Tahu's design always spoke to me. On a side note, I really want to know which set designer thought making Gali a hunchback with massive shoulders and Onua a lanky twig was a good idea.
It's more like someone accidentally colored Gali set black, and onua set blue. Even the masks fit the other toa better, adaptive pakari is passably feminine, and adaptive kaukau has the manly jawline that fits toa of earth.
To be fair, Gali was always a broadshouldered set, something the mask of light movie bizzarly avoided, but the head structure her absolutely is off and it feels like they swapped her and Onua's head spaces

I legit can't see anything bad about the Mistika. Mainly because Onua Mistika was my first bionicle figure ever. I know I'm probably blinded by nostalgia but I just can't help but love these guys. Especially Onua.

Mystika honestly felt like a new wave of toa, possibly the writers wanted the nuva to work with a new team but they half scrapped the idea and just “revamped” all of the nuva
I really like the Toa Nuva in 2008, the Phantoka are cool and sleek and the Mistika are pretty good but the only one I would like to get is Tahu Mistika since I think he looks awesome with his adaptive armour.
+FlashFirePrime Personally I could agree there.... the only problem is that while they do look fantastic on their own, they look nothing like the masks they are actually supposed to be.
How id fix thier masks: Gali: (even though I like the design) id replace the telescope with a form of goggles like her toa mata mask Tahu: honestly just add a circle in the middle to make it look like the classic hau (also maybe make his shield flamey) Onua: nothing he's perfect i might of added toa hordika whenua's jackhammer to his blaster but thats about it.
Something just occurred to me. How does Onua get around in the swamp? I mean, he has the too little booster things on his legs, but that can't be enough, can it?
I'm not the type of person who gets really mad over my plastic not looking cooler than my other plastic. Not the best sets, I still like them. TBH I like the 2008 toa more than the old mata and nuva, maybe it's nostalgia because I didn't grow up with 2001-2003 (I joined late 2004)? Although the Mistika's weapon of choice could've been better...
Interesting to hear the thoughts of the bionicle community. Personally Gali Misika was my favorite of the 2008 Toa, and I loved the new Kaukau the most of anything. I guess I'm an odd one out. :)
I just missed out on the Toa Nuva and Mata sets as a kid, so I loved these as I wasn't attached to the OG Toa. I loved the Mistika, they were my favorite Toa sets with Mahri placed second. Loved the Mistika for their jets and flight, and I love the Chrome, dark secondary colour and black touches, and I know a lot would disagree, but- I like how they are a gun centered team. I see no flaws but I can understand why people don't like Gali hunched or a skinny Onua.
+person fishforce They're fine to me. Gali and Tahu have way too much silver taking control over their respective blue and red. Onua only really has silver limbs and weapons, so he's okay. But I think Gali's mask is the most ugliest thing I've ever laid eyes upon. What's up with that waffle on her eye?! 0__0
+person fishforce They have more silver than their primary color. They're okay but these are the Toa Nuva so imagine the hype when people saw they were coming back.
IMO these sets look awesome. I don't know why, but I think Gali is very badass, especially in their ad video when she and Onua are flying towards Tahu. But all of these sets are badass, sadly I don't have any of them, I never saw them in real life.
A really easy fix for those who don't like the modified Piraka build for Gali and Tahu, you simply reverse the chest piece to be more like a standard Piraka build, and in my opinion it looks reminiscent of the old Nuva chestplates. Also worth mentioning that Gali's posture can be fixed with one blue axle pin.
I never had these, but some of their recolors and new parts look pretty sweet. Also glad to see that this style of blaster doesn't suck like in Mahri/Barraki.
I never got the obsession with keeping the characters the same. I get keeping the old look, but I simply don't see the issue. Different setting and a stylistic evolution warrant a reimagining in my opinion.
Hey, say what you will, I loved these sets. I only ever had one, Tahu, which sadly still remains my oldest Bionicle set (Though I once had the brown Rahaga-Pouks, was it? Anyway, getting that set from vision therapy was what got me into Bonkles, but it was sadly lost to the winds of time), and I wasn't really judging these Toa. I was happy how they were, and they were released at around the same time I got into Bionicle. When I did, they were still on store shelves, along with the earlier Glatorians. So, sue me, but they're an early memory for me, and one I will cherish.
Is it weird i love these so much? I love the technology look and flight type stuff. Sure they don't look similar but it's adaptive armour for a reason. I dunno
I was kinda realizing by 2008 that the designers for the Bionicle builds didn't really have much contact with the people who did the story, otherwise I feel like we wouldn't have gotten such weird sets like the Hordika, Mistika or even the Toa Mahri.
I always liked the set growing up but looking at them now, I really wish the masks were at least reminiscent of their old designs. They look more like prototypes for the Phantoka toa masks than their old selves.
I liked the phantoka a lot more with the flying theme. Like the Phantoka and Mahri were very similar to the Ignika, but they had a flying or water theme to set them apart. Also Tahu has the spinning thing but the others don't have any tools besides the blaster and are pretty generic Toa.
Unfortunately I only got Tahu and to this day I still regretted not getting Gali and Onua to complete the team. I know some think these designs are terrible/bad/whatever but I though they looked awesome even if they don’t look like previous incarnations. Tahu Mistika was my first ever Bionicle so he holds a special place in my heart. It wasn’t until recently I learned that Gali was a girl and I gotta say that’s one badass female robot.
I personally love Tahu and Onua's mistika masks, I just don't think they work as adaptations from their prior forms. Then again, did the nuva masks ever look like their mata predecessors? Barely. and I deMAND FAN ART OF GALI MISTIKA WITH A WAFFLE EYE
What I hated most about these sets was the steep price. Canister sets went from $7 to $10 between '01 and early '08. By the end of '08, it rose to $13. I dislike the lack of resemblance and the excess silver, but by far my least favorite design choice was the absence of weapons for Onua and Gali. Were the blasters so fun that we had to get ride of swords and axes and the like?
Great review as always. I like the Mistika. I also have a question. Do you film the reviews or the intro skits first? Anyway, awesome review. I watch and enjoy them all!
+ltranc but lava is already molten stone, so it is impossible to melt something that is already molten. the difference with lava and magma is that one is above ground the other one under ground
Benjamin Morsch I know, the only difference between them is one is at the surface and the other is underground. But Eljay said "molten lava" when trying to justify Onua's red, but the element of Earth was mostly subterranean areas and therefore the correct term would be magma.
I came to bionicle in 2007 so having no experience or connections to the earlier waves. I loved the 2008 sets because I got most of them. Looking back as an adult however I can understand why people dislike them, especially considering that 2 of these sets don't have a primary weapon, just a gun.
My first set may have been Onua Mistika, (And even though i took him apart i bought a new one last year) I agree that there are flaws in its design, but it is a fun set that has plenty of play value as long as you have other sets to play alongside him, otherwise he just flies around and stuff. Onua Mistika was my first, yet Onua Mata is my favorite, I can time travel.
I remember getting Gali Mistika at my local buehlers because yes, Apparently in ohio, if you are lucky, you'll find an old bionicle or an old hero factory set, if they were shelf warmers that is. An Alien Conquest set, the mother ship is still at my buehlers for 70 dollars! shocker, huh?
Mistika is just a title - The Phantoka and Mistika are still Toa Nuva, however with adaptive armor.
he knows that, hes part of the TTV channel, duh
I wasn't saying that especially for him. Just pointing out a fact.
I think that's the problem, when the Toa Inika became the Toa Mahri, there was a clear explanation for their change in powers and appearances, even the masks were changed for different ones, but the masks and powers of the Toa "Phantoka/Mistika" are still the same, so they should have followed the design lines of the original Toa Nuva.

I think Onua looks sick. The mask is awesome, consistent color scheme, not even any blue pins!
ooooor not. he has blue pins. still the best set though.
Alliiiiii plush his helmet looks a bit like a pakari but with fins
Alliiiiii I.. I
I like all of them
Yep definitely the best of the three.
Still just okay in my opinion.
However I have to ask. Why not have him be the hunchback of the three like last time?
I feel like the best way to remedy this wave is to swap Gali and onua’s build type
I swear it looks like someone swapped gali and onua's body types
Very odd indeed, since if they were going to use those molds and shape, why not try to make them somewhat accurate in that if nothing else?
I suspect that may have been the original plan, and someone got the bright idea of going the route they did in the long run. But hey, we may never know (unless we know already)

Why did I just get a notification for this? It said it was new from TTV and I've totally seen this lol
I'm glad out of the mistika wave I got Makuta Krika. Best set in 2008 imo
Grenjo one word, 8 letters and one number....
AXALARA T9
Meso should make a stop motion of him beating up Solek.
I never had these, but some of their recolors and new parts look pretty sweet. Also glad to see that this style of blaster doesn't suck like in Mahri/Barraki.
I got Tahu and Onua. Never got Gali, and I'm kinda glad I never did.
I never got the obsession with keeping the characters the same. I get keeping the old look, but I simply don't see the issue. Different setting and a stylistic evolution warrant a reimagining in my opinion.
They’re pretty underrated.
The Mistika are my Number 4 spot.
Btw. I would rank the Toa waves like this:
5.Metru
4.Mistika
3.Glatorian
2.Phantoka
1.Guess what it is.
Tobito TV Inika?
The Aki War we will never know
It's the toa mahri.
Tobito TV mata? Inika? Nuva? Hordika?
Mahri or mata
Is it weird i love these so much? I love the technology look and flight type stuff. Sure they don't look similar but it's adaptive armour for a reason. I dunno
Eljay is amazing at this
have the blue pins ever not been a con?
I was kinda realizing by 2008 that the designers for the Bionicle builds didn't really have much contact with the people who did the story, otherwise I feel like we wouldn't have gotten such weird sets like the Hordika, Mistika or even the Toa Mahri.
I am drawn towards that neat shape of Galis shoulder armor
I always liked the set growing up but looking at them now, I really wish the masks were at least reminiscent of their old designs. They look more like prototypes for the Phantoka toa masks than their old selves.
I liked the phantoka a lot more with the flying theme. Like the Phantoka and Mahri were very similar to the Ignika, but they had a flying or water theme to set them apart. Also Tahu has the spinning thing but the others don't have any tools besides the blaster and are pretty generic Toa.
Maybe some extra weapons would be nice for Gali amd Onua... they kinda look lonley without any dual-hand weapons.
Hello, can you do a video showing all the Toa Nuva in their newer adaptive armour; as a group review of both phantoka and mistika toa together
My biggest complain is they are metru colors instead of gray and mata colors like the phantoka
Forgot how you would Need the Actual Pakari nuva Considering how impossible those canisters were to open
I really loved the Mistika man
Even today I still believe this and the Phantoka where meant to be the Toa Hagah.
The spike on Tahu's mask, I believe would act as a rudder, kinda like the Rocketeer.
Why do you need fan art when the model already does it?
What I hated most about these sets was the steep price. Canister sets went from $7 to $10 between '01 and early '08. By the end of '08, it rose to $13.
I dislike the lack of resemblance and the excess silver, but by far my least favorite design choice was the absence of weapons for Onua and Gali. Were the blasters so fun that we had to get ride of swords and axes and the like?
blue waffle on gali`s mask... that´s gross
+Calafrio The Ice Lord
I see what you did there XD
Benjamin Garcia Google Search xD
Waffle eye
I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who likes Toa Nuva Mistika.
I don't even have a problem with Swamp-variant of Kaukau Nuva
Tahu was my first lego set and I actually bought 2 onuas because the piece holding the arm - shield broke
Am I the only one who likes Gali Mistika's mask?
this mask is pretty cool (in my opinion obviously) but, she is don't similar to 02 and 01
Great review as always. I like the Mistika. I also have a question. Do you film the reviews or the intro skits first? Anyway, awesome review. I watch and enjoy them all!
Anyone here 10 years later? 2018 been a crazy year
I feel like the Mistika get WAY too much hate.
IekTheWubbox I agree
To sum up my thoughts. Tahu looks like a completely new character, and Gali and Onua look like dark hunters.
Nice review as always Eljay. However, the video seems a bit hazy. May I suggest turning up the saturation?
"molten lava"
Eljay, you mean MAGMA.
same thing, shut up
+Oliver Collin not the same thing shut up
+George Bout that It doesnt matter. Not the same thing but it doesnt matter at all.
I never got why Tahu has a shield.... WHEN HIS MASK IS THE MASK OF SHIELDING!!
It's meant to be a saw
In the past few recap videos, there seems to be an audio glitch right before you start talking and the screen fades to the set.
Out of these, I only ever had Tahu, and I don't really remember seeing the other two in stores at the time.
Honestly, if they gave them different names, they would be perfectly fine.
