XH A1 film test (old)

- This is a test of my Canon XH A1 when it was new. I found this movie on my MAC, while I was deleting some files. I thought I could just upload it as a little test-video of XH A1 here on youtube :)
I used only Canon XH A1, and no adapters. I used "Color" to make the colors different.

Loved the image quality and camera handling. I think you made an excellent choice to use the background sound along with the music. It gave the video a more organic feel along with the images you chose. Again...loved it. I just purchased this camera yesterday can't wait to put it through it's paces. Had been using a Canon GL2 for a year.

@JamesWorldStudios What a stupid comment :P I exported this video as 480p a looong time ago, because I added it to my hompage. I didn't have that much space on my homepage, so I couldn't upload HD video. Then later, I just uploaded this same file to youtube, instead of exporting again. It's easy to achieve shallow depth of field like this if you zoom in alot, use as open aperture as possible and make the object be as far as possible away from the background.
Thank you for this video. I have been torn on what kind of camera to buy to make my movie. This videos quality and artistic achievement has been the greatest help to me in deciding that this camera is the one to buy.

Thats right ;) You can get a very nice depth of field if you zoom in a lot and open the aperture as much as possible :)

Great shots. I must be doing something wrong, bc I cannot get images like that with my own xh-a1. Very hard to stay in focus when shooting actors in a scene. The manual's no real help.

Do you get the depth of field by keeping the camera zoomed in a lot? Does some of it have to do with the aperture? Are you getting the contrast with the exposure? How are you doing the colors?

the only competition to this camera is the RED...end of. I own the XH-A1 and it is amazing!

the red one costs also 10 times more than the xha1, i wouldnt concider it a cam for amateur film makers (maybe if u have a rich daddy, lol). 30k for 1 camera(bundle). 1 camera wont be enough if you shoot on 4k and high framerate since the cam will overheat pretty soon and needs its break. so u need a second body. we´re at 47k now, having 1 single lens sofar....
a nice rig based on an xha1 (camera+35mm addapter + matte box + tripod + rails + monitor + mics + lights) will be around 15k.....

how do you get this warm effect from this camera , what editing programme are you using and what settings are you using
plus, depending on the situation, tv stations use different kind of cams - super expensive studio cams for their news moderation or gameshows, but also these "budget" 3k cameras like the xha1 for reality shows, news feeds and so on.
to show you how amateur these cams are... did you see the hollywood movie crank2 (i know its story sucks)? you wanna know which cams they used? check wikipedia, surprise surprise, its an xha1.. and even an hf10, a cam worth 800€. ~20 million $ amateur movie, nice

doesn't look like it. Looks like he utilized the high zoom. Typically when zoomed in it naturally creates a shallow depth of field. This can be achieved with most digital cameras, you just have to practice and understand your particular camera to get the desired DOF.
Really nice footage, but excellent colour correction.

@JamesWorldStudios ok buddy i'm not even mad you're the one who doesn't even know about film making and are calling this video "Fake" and saying that it "ain't" blurred enough (which by the way is called a depth of field). I just don't likeit when people talk about things they don't know about.

you heard of post production?
u sure have an advantage shooting your stuff on 4k when you finally end up in a cinema which also uses these kind of projectors, true (which is quite a low percentage at the current time)
still, if ur budget if lower than 100k you will get a better result if you spent ur money in a 9k cam (xha1 costs 3k) and have the rest for accessory, actors, ...than wasting half of ur buget of camera and 1 lens.

seems my last comment got lost somehow, sry if i double-post...
a red shoots @ 4k, a normal home-cinema-system has no 4k projector, 1080p is max you get at home. so there is no point in buying a red if you dont show your movies in a cinema (google 4k projector to see if 1 would fit in your livingroom, lol).
when i turn on the tv i see many amateur shoots - news, reality shows,.... its not the money which makes you pro. 50% of my work is for free, 50% is regulary payed - so am i semi-pro now?
My suggestion is turn off ur sound if a song is playing...but very cool!
