It's pretty cool that Ruth Mason- Lion did the intro. on the Donald Byrd Live at The Half Note Album. She is the model on the cover of The 3 Sounds Moods album Blue Note 84044. She was Alfred Lions wife one of the founders of Blue Note Records.

Nice additions, Mike. Really nice early Blue Notes - those jackets looked pristine. And I’ve been dragging my feet on the ScoLoHoFo, need to grab a copy. - Mike

Embossed sticker? Next thing you'll want gold foil on Alan Parson Project album covers 😉

Hey Mike, I think the alternate jacket printing company is "Spark Printing." It was noted on first release of KG's new label (in the YT video description where he explains the AAA recording process) and I believe jackets are similar if not the same, down to the fully glued inner seam detail, paper stock etc.

My wife hates jazz too...I keep reminding her that jazz covers a wide genre and she likes some of it.
I stream and listen on the cheapest most crappiest headphones so when I listen to records on my system I get more pleasure from the experience, I do agree though Mike, poor streaming can affect the actual music.

The Blakey Columbia Hard Bop is as good as anything he did on Blue Note. A really enjoyable album. I have some 80s reissue which I've listened to a lot, but would love an original. Charles

Enjoyable video Mike. You mentioned briefly during the Oscar Peterson review that the piano on many of the RVG recordings is not the greatest. Someone once said that the piano sounds like it was underwater at times.I wonder if it was a problem miking pianos back then.Any insight into that? Thanks

Pianos are hard to record because they cover such a large musical range that competes with the other instruments. RVG's piano and bass sound were, generally, not great - Charles Mingus famously did not use him because he ruined the sound of the bass. I think it was just a RVG thing.

Mike do you think 🤔 chad will ever make his own jackets or is it a licensing issue 🤔 this prestige series has been a nightmare with getting some of these albums pressed because we have to wait for the jackets to be manufactured !

Chad has the full licensing for all of his deals, but AP does not make jackets at this point (that might change). The owner of the music may have some requirements about the cover art, jacket style, labels on the LP and other details. The jacket supply was not that big of an issue until about 2 years ago but Stoughton and others simply cannot keep up with the surge in demand now. There are good business opportunities out there for anyone wanting to make high quality LP jackets, that's for certain.

Chad stated that their operation is already almost too extensive and he will not be making jackets; they are a whole other skillset.

Mike great product but you need to show the cover while you talk. Maybe a tripod or stand could be used
