I thought the small switch on my key would open it for the battery. I didn't know there was an actual key inside. Then I had no clue how to change the battery. What an excellent little video.
Hi Bernhard, well it's the internet and every channel gets down votes. What matters are that it helps some people, and your comment is really appreciated :)
Thanks for the careful description, it really helped. I can’t believe that this is so fiddly to do, needs a better design! By the way as well as a CR2025 that you used here, you can also use a CR2032.
Thanks man. If I'd taken this into a dealer they would've charged me $100! Btw: I didn't have a screw driver handy so I just used the end of a tea spoon. Worked a treat.
Very helpful (6 years later) indeed! I was always postponing on doing it myself, fearing that I'd break something. After watching the video, I knew nothing was going to break. To add on this already super-helpful video, it's even easier/safer if you have some plastic opening picks or other tools used to open mobile-phones/laptops available. In my case, they came handy and the job was done with no scratches.
Brilliant. Thank you. Not only have you saved me time for not having to go to the Nissan dealership, but also the arm and a leg they would have charged me fo the battery.
Thank you for explanining and showing very clearly. It really did took my worry out. I cracked my new Samsung Galaxy Note 9 phone to inser SIM card, thinking I have to open from the back, not realising you get a pin to do that and u do it from top. I didn't wanna do that with my car key so I found your video and it was helpful. Like one of the comment, I used a butter knife instead of a screwdriver to open FOB and to remove the battery, I had to use a scredriver. Also DL/CR2025 I bought had a 'child safety'picture which I inserted into the key FOB without removing it and it didnt work at first (which gave me a slight panick attack!). Then I removed that 'child safety' sticker and a tiny gel form paste from the 'negative' side of the battery (you have all the writings on the 'positive'side of the battery). So once done that, it all worked fine :) Thanks once again my Car Key Man :)
Thanks mate. I thought that small switch thing opened it, but it turns out to be an actual key - which nobody at the dealership bothered to tell me. Luckily I had a battery to hand.
Hey there as everyone else saying this video clip is amazing!!! I def would not have been able to figure out how to open the key and change the battery! Simple and easy, job done, thanks for sharing 🎉
Thank you 😊 I was a bit worried to begin with but following alongside you doing it made it easy and now my car is no longer saying low battery every time I get in.
Thanks man! it helps! the twist method does really help to open it much easily. if you do not have a screw driver, try using butter knife, as it is slim enough to be inserted into the crack.
Thank you so much you have rescued me. This was the best assistance I ever received in a very short time. My car is working super good. Thank you so much. Nicholas - Nairobi Kenya
This is the perfect "how-to" video. Many could learn from this. Fwiw, mine had a CR2032 in it. I had to look up the difference to a CR2025. Apparently it's thickness (3.2mm vs 2.5mm) and a higher capacity. Same diameter. The thicker one seems to fit ok in my key.
Thanks for this! Mine had a 2032 in but I replaced it with a 2025. Also I didn't use a screwdriver, just used my fingernails along the sides at the back. Popped open easily
Thank you, followed instructions and changed the battery. I then realised that the spare key has a small metal rectangle in the key ring that is the tool for this.
Many thanks. I'd just add to keep the side with the buttons on pointing down - on mine, the circuit board was loose and I was worried the whole thing would fall apart.
Thanks for your reply. Much appreciated. I am in the US, and amazon is where I shop for everything, because free shipping to Hawaii. I saw a video for some other brand fob, where he just bought the housing, and transferred the electronics etc. So I wonder if that can be done with the Nissan Murano fob, if the housing is just the shell, or if it comes with the buttons, and the electronics can be transferred. So I don't have to pay an arm & leg at Nissan to reprogram a brand new fob. $ 189 OMG. Just like when years ago my alternator went out everybody wanted to sell me a new one for $ 200, all I needed was an insulation disk for $2 that had burned out.
Hi pal, followed the instructions on your video to replace the battery on my Nissan xtrail T32 2017 model push start , now when I try and open the door with the key fob it will not open, have to use the key then hold the fob next to the push start button to start it .
Hi yes worked before, I did put the old battery back in but that will not work now either ,changed the battery in my other key at the same time as the other one and that works fine ?
Thank you so much for your help with this tip, its a lifesaver. Its been worrying us as we have been experiencing a problem with our Nissan key fob. Will b changing the battery fob asap. Great video, thanks again
Thanks for the information! Very helpful. Very dodgy design from Nissan lol ... I just crack the case with the screw driver & then use a guitar pick or something plastic to finish the open. This prevents any damage to the key. My key was a 2032 battery. Great video! Thanks from Aus... maaate
Hi Chris, love Oz, the queen paid me to visit in another life! I like the idea of the plastic tools, just got a few and although they are a bit bendy, they don't mark up the key, so top tip, thanks :)

Fails to mention some identical looking keys do take different batteries. Open yours up before you go buy the batteries. Demo video has CR2025 but mine needed CR2032.
I have just ordered two CR2025 batteries as recommend by you in your video only to find that the batteries in my remote are CR2032 which are 0.7 mm fatter and fit better than the CR2025's that you recommend. Maybe Nissan have changed the batteries in these remotes since your video. 🤔
Hi, Yes Since I made that I've found that they can be fitted with either battery. Not sure why have each type but from what I've seen, both sizes work ok
Quick question as you seem like a guy in the know. Iv just bought a used Nissan juke nismo rs I have 2 keys though only 1 opens and locks car at the moment is this standard or should both do the same? Also may it just be a dead battery in the key that doesnt open it?
HI, well the buttons are coded at the same time as the transponder chip, so if it starts the car, then the buttons should work. There isn't a separate trick to get it to work. Have you tried a battery?
So glad i found this video. My battery is dead on my kry and low on my wifes. Heres to prsying it wont need reprogramming as I really dont want to go to the dealer for it.
oh man, thx for the video, i bought cr2025 batteries, but now when i'm gonna change them it says cr2032 inside the key, does it still work with cr2025 ?
Alternatively, if you have some phone tools use the thin plastic pry edge in the side of the key fob, that will not mark the key fob, or I didn't anyways, a kitchen chopping knife will also do the job, fit it in the middle of the side. when closing it it's very important to make sure the pointed end is the first part to snap back together or you might snap off the locating lugs trying to force it together, tried and tested method, as-you-know,
Hi, thanks for this info. This is a really easy key not to get right! Like you say, you just need to take it slowly and not slip inside the key with anything that might damage the inside. Appreciate the feedback for everyone

Hi thanks for the great videos. I have a Nissan micra k11 2992. The right door lock and it won't unlock or open . the car has central locking and wine up windows not power window. I open the door card but I don't see any wiring to suggest that the key suppose to open the door. It's a 5 door car any help we be great thanks.
hi, thanks. But no doors are working I think this key like it only supposed to work on the driver side door, although I see on a micra it work for both front doors. But another question dose the door have some sort of remote chip in it. The key have in the battery e.t.c
Hi, we change many of these every week. We've not had a problem when changing the key battery and we normally have the new key battery ready, so it's out less than 10 seconds
so recenty i bought a nisan quasquai 2017 one of the key didint function so i changed the battery, now i have one ow warning light on after i switch car off ,it s red colored car with key iside and i dont know how to switch it off, bnoth key are working fine....if some 1 knows how to swithc the warning lght off plz write me thanks
Morning. Yes we keep seeing these fobs with a mixture of CR2025 and CR2032. The only difference is the thickness. I'm sure the C2025 is the correct key battery but don't worry, I'm sure either will work fine. Thanks for the feedback
Thank you for such a short but very informative video! If I may suggest: your screwdriver is way too big and it could scratch the plastic. Then: it's better to twist it open with the screwdriver and later prime it , actually drag through the edge with a creditcard to open it. The plastic the card is made of is soft and will not make any scratch. Then it's better not to touch this kind of battery (lithium) with your bare hand as this may reduce its lifespan. Having said this I liked your video very much 😊
Hi Mariah, no once the battery is changed it should work. How long have you had the car? Did the key ever work and did i stop working gradualy or suddenly?
I was getting the low battery symbol on the dashboard, so I changed the battery in both fobs and now they won’t lock/unlock or start the car unless I touch the key to the button. It was working perfectly fine before I did this. Any ideas?
Hi Chantelle, this is strange. If you open the key and put the old battery back in hat happens then? Are the batteries the correct way round? Do the buttons unlock and lock the car?
In my experience, using a smaller size flathead worked great and no dammage to the plastic at all. Edit: Mine had 2 small notches for the flathead though.
Almost 6 years later, and you're still saving lives, thank you so much 🙏🏾

Hi Lee, any good motor parts, or Amazon
Thank you for your work showing us this.
You're welcome Edijs :)

Hi Josef, I've not heard of this. If you put the old battery back in, does the light go away?
Brilliant, so easy when you know what to do! Thank you.
Thanks for the feedback, really pleased it helped :)
I have a pathfinder, same key fob but my battery is CR2032
Having said this I liked your video very much 😊
Thanks, very easy to follow 👍🏻
That's great new, thanks for the feedback :)
Thank you so much, you just saved me both time and money! Legend mate x
Glad to help :)
They changed the battery for an CR 2032 in my Nissan Micra key. My car is from 2019.
Hi, I see both 2025 and 2032, not sure why but both will work ok :)
I have the exact key an the battery was replaced but it still doesn't work. Does the remote needs reprogramming?
Thanks for the feedback :)
Thank you for the video! It worked like a charm.
That's great news, thanks for watching :)
