Didn't know anything about Bernstein, and now that I have watched the movie, I still know almost nothing about the guy.
I watched this last night! I agree that the weakest part was not seeing more of the creative process (like they did in "Ray" and "I Walk the Line"), but the performances were SO GOOD!! Anyone who has problems with Bradley Cooper's makeup must have no idea what Leonard Bernstein looked like, that profile was PERFECT!! Also all the scenes where Cooper conducts were PERFECT! I might sound like a huge Bernstein fan, I'm not, but growing up watching him was part of our music education, and what he did for promoting music in schools is phenomenal!! I was caught up in how close the family was, and even found an article after I watched where their kids raved about how involved they were with the film from start to finish. Finally, did anyone notice it was the real Bernstein conducting over the end credits? Not my Best Film of the Year, but definitely Top 5!!
If cooper had done that they would have accused him of doing another bohemian rhapsody.
@@parareefaelias656 Another example of, you can't please everybody all time, lol!
@@scottboswell6406 true,👍
I would rather have a biopic of Leonard’s career achievements then his personal life. The story about a 1950-60s gay or bisexual man who married a woman and their difficult marriage has been done many times before with more interesting perspectives and concepts. I want this movie to be a real biopic about a musical genius that we can learn and admire.
I wish B. Cooper had taken the oppenheimer route.
I’m more in Martin’s camp on just liking the movie but not fully loving it. On a directorial and technical aspect, it’s fantastic and Bradley Cooper shows that he’s getting better as a director and the performances of him and Carey Mulligan are fantastic and the individuals moments I loved like the Cathedral scene, but I felt the story didn’t really have that much narrative focus to where I didn’t fully get enough from his relationship Leonard and Felicia for it to emotionally impact me.
The best way to describe Maestro is that it’s Oscar bait, it’s good Oscar bait, but it just checks all the boxes that the Academy loves especially since it’s a biopics and being produced by Scorsese and Spielberg. Hell despite Cooper and Mulligan being great, their performances did come off as “I’m ACTING!” like they’re really going for that Oscar. So it’s good movie, but just fall short of being great for me and in terms of his 2 directorial films, I prefer A Star is Born easily.
Excellent post
There better be a bio pic of John Williams some day . The man is a legend .
But maybe his life has been boring?
@@parareefaelias656well judging by his works and a accomplishments I doubt it .
@@AverageJoe483 but what drama is there? Dude seems to be all about work and Hollywood seems to like the drama. I would watch a williams biopic but i doubt hollywood thinks of his life as dramatic enough to be cinematic.
@@parareefaelias656 they just made movies on Jordan Shoes ( AIR ) and the blackberry phone . Both were great movies . I’m willing to guarantee there is a story . Simply understanding how he became who he is and his mindset to create such great music .
OK. Sooooooo, since we're talking about possible Oscar movies, when will DT cover American Fiction movie? 🎬🏆✨️
Yes! I've been hearing people compare American Fiction to Spike Lee's Bamboozled, but I'd love to hear these guys share their thoughts on this movie.
They did review it on Twitch, just haven’t upload it yet. I’m guessing they’re waiting until it hits theaters wide.
Facts 💯
They did a couple weeks ago
I wish we would get it in theaters around me soon 😭😭
Just watched this tonight. I thought it was just okay. Never really got into it. Carey Mulligan should be nominated because she was great in her role. Cooper will get nominated but I didn't think he did enough to deserve a nom.
Cooper has been campaingnng really hard. A lot of q&a some with directors like spielberg and quaron
I think nolan and scorsesse arent cqmpaigning as hard so cooper might get it. Im roiting for KOTFM , anatomy of a fall and Oppenheimer. And if academy was fair Gidzila minus one would be frontrunner
No if we were boycotting the girl that played gamorah in guardians because all the props she wore to play Nina Simone…Jews have a case for this…not saying they’re right but we can’t tell them how to be offended
Yeah, let people get offended if they feel to.
It’s well directed, beautifully acted but pretentious
Because the Oscars go to "pretentious"' movies. Cooper and Netflux have been campaining HARD for this one. Theyll get tons of nominations
Full marks for ambition and effort, but DAMN I wanted to know more about his creative process. Can't believe he was hitting on college kids after losing his wife to cancer--what was the point of that scene?!
Artists are pervs
He looks like Jeff goldbloom in the cream sweater
He's got the lean going on!!🤣🤣🤣🤣

The young Berstein looks ridiculous. His nose was never pointed like a witch. Older Berstein looks great, though.
Older Berstein looks like leslie nielsen
It's quite nice on a technical level, but I was bored by it. No insight in his creative process or why he is a genius left me wondering why he was such a big deal then
i assumed the movie was mostly about leonard and felicias relationship rather just his career , hence the highlight reel feel of his accomplishments?
That dynamic between those two ppl is supposed to be the films focus
Thoughts exactly
If Cooper had focused in the musuc the film would be like Bohemian Rhapsody and cooper seems hungry for critical praise.
Finally I see Julian finding his torn with the crew. The antagonizing reminds me o d classic early days of double toasted Martin and Korey’s arguing.
I liked Chris but everything was to nice.
I love this new trio
Keep it up
I stopped watching DT when Chris took over. Im happy they got both Juliens, they never fake their laughs and dont hate on artsy films.

@@parareefaelias656 I liked herm. He was well spoken and insightful
I think Sarah Silverman did a good job in a role that was used as a Greek chorus rather than a fleshed out character. He used her role to advance exposition that he was either too lazy to present properly or didn't have the time to do it properly.
Come on its not like many here are into greek tragedies... Greek chorus ... As though the mainstrean audiences were into eschilo..
@@parareefaelias656 Mr Cooper knows the term, because he used it as the co-screen writer.
@@BrownsBacker but you are not talking to Mr cooper, you are in a movie review channel with a lot of videogames fans who have little interest in the teatrical experience.
@@parareefaelias656 i replied to a movie review....as for gamers, are you saying they are all uneducated??? I know better, since I've played games on consoles since the 1970's. I don't see the reason for any conflict based upon I wrote something that uneducated people wouldn't understand. Just move on if you don't have Google available to clear up any confusion. @@BrownsBacker for me mentioning the greek chorus is typical of those who want to sound educated "look I read plays" "look I read the greeks" martin and korey are also educated but never rub it in our noses. I read more than the average double toasted viewer and was part of a performing group forba while thats why I get what you said but I found your greek chorus comment out of place in a comment section filled with videigamers and streaming fans.

Why is Bradley being flagellated for the nose prosthetic while Nicole Kidman was praised when she portrayed Virginia Wolfe? 🤭

Korey REALLY gave this a full price and Oppenheimer a matinee.... smdh... Watching this made me really appreciate Oppenheimer. THAT is how you do a biopic
Korey loves silly humor, and appatently B. cooper made Bernatein a silly dude. Theres humor in Killers of flower moon thats why he gave a full price. Oppenheimer is a great movie but I can see why some think Nolan is a cold director,. Actually thats why I love Oppenheimer so much, no sillyness, no humor, unrelebtness regret, masterful sound, no nosense storytelling.
I really liked the trailers, so I was interested in seeing the movie finally come out. I was not disappointed
I Have Been Seeing The Maestro Posters Recently
The trailers are so artistic.
The Oscar Monks lmao😂😅
Funnny
I thought brad cooper already looks like Bernstein without the prosthetic
Thought the movie was hilarious. Couldn't take it serious enough. Some dialogues were quite old time stuff to give us the past dramatic vibe, which was good.
Even in the trailers the accents make me laugh
Yeah, I agree in some parts he does look kind of cartoonish.
No he doesn't. Honestly some of the best makeup work even his hands and arms looked great
Since the makeup was exceptional, maybe what you're really saying is you believe that a large nose is cartoonish in appearance, all on its own?
@@blackguyofthesouth2161 it started to work for me a little bit more once they started to age his characters overtime ,and Other characters were wearing prosthetics to showcase their age. But in the early scenes for me, at least it looked a little bit for two minutes. But maybe it because I’m familiar with Bradley Cooper looks like. i’ll give a hand what doesn’t help for me is that the other actors and actresses were just wearing costumes and opera sex earlier. So he stood out to me.

I had a feeling Bradley Cooper was destined for better things when he starred in the theatrical revival of
The Elephant Man.
I never got to see it, but I heard such wonderful reviews of his performance.
The character of Merrick in the play is traditionally performed without elaborate prosthetics or makeup.
It is told that he loved the 1982 film. I wonder if Bradley Cooper will attempt a film remake.

The wife had an interesting life too. She brought Bernstein into her activist life and they met with black panthers and Tom Wolfe gave them shot about it. She was even arrested during a protest. I wish we got to see more of that and his art. Plus, I’m tired of Hollywood infatuation with bad boys
I’m surprised Netflix released this movie over Paramount Pictures and 20th Century Studios.
They (netflux) spend the most on their oscar campaigns. Cooper wants that oscar.
I saw the movie, It was great… Bradley was great as Bernstein and Carey Mulligan… Wow, She need to get nominated for an Academy Award, and Bradley Deserves a nomination for Directing nomination, and supporting cast well…Matt Boomer was really not in the movie a lot and Sarah Silverstein was great… and cinematography was beautiful!
The Movie was 8/10
Im rooting for American fiction and Killers of the flower moon
.after DT hilarious review of Poor things I have to watch that .
This could be a prequel to Tar
Definetely
There was a lot of social activism throughout his work with Candide originally having a strong message against the then-ongoing McCarthy trials and Mass having a breakdown against the Vietnam war and how the message of peace in faith contradicts the war. None of this was touched upon. Even the segment where they talked about the multiple projects during West Side Story- it was never mentioned that Candide was written the same time and music written for either ended up in the other.
Damn them reviews were all over the place
I guess you either like it or you don’t

I don' like the movie. Overacting & obviously oscar bait. I don't think the awards givers like to reward mediocre performance as the best. It only lower their standards. Awards should only be given ONLY to the best.
I disagree that Maestro's tone was inconsistent, but its storytelling style is definitely untraditional. I liked how naturalistic the conversations were; I think this was an attempt to give the viewer a fly-on-the-wall sort of feeling. The film had a kind of wayward feel, almost like it had ADHD, but to me that seemed approriate because that's how Bernstein himself seemed to be, someone who let his passion guide him and didn't ask too many questions.
I like that tone. Otherwise this movie wpuld be generic biopic like my guilty pleasure Bohemian Rhapsody,
Inconsistent sounds like a praise consideting all biopics can feel so tropey.
Yep
This movie was boring. I learned nothing about Bernstein. And I found Cooper's performance annoying, especially the voice. What is it with him and voices, he did the same thing with A Star if Born.
It sounded like he had a stuffy nose and I don't know if Bernstein sounded like that
Hated the voice too. And his facial expressions were crazy at times.
Such a lame criticism
@@niktour352 He did. And since his 3 kids were involved with all parts of the production, I'm sure they'd have said something.
I didnt know that there was such a thing like a "jew face" . Glad you have a jewish dude there. As a latinx I suppose I have jewish ancestors. Plenty of jewish people fled spain to populate Latinamerican countries.
Actually, Steven Spielberg was going to direct Maestro. However, he personally offered Bradley the directing chair after watching A Star is Born.
That explains despite the netflix comments he did in 2018 he supported the Q&A.
Looking a bit Leslie Neilson Creepshow era..

I would have foregone the use of nose altogether and gone with a face hole
It was antisemitic because there was no need to exaggerate the nose. It was a non Jew’s version of how he viewed LB even though, LB did not have a particularly large nose. Bradley has a large enough nose to represent LB without the need to exaggerate. That’s why it is antisemitic.
Maybe. I have seen worse on TV. Anyway that's on the make up artists, maybe some of them love making fun of minorities

Artsy films usually are
I’ve been a fan of Bradley Cooper ever since I saw Yes Man and The Hangover. I’m proud of how much he’s accomplished since 2009. I’m glad he wasn’t one of those actors who took shortcuts to achieve his status as a serious actor. He build his trajectory slowly because by building a slow trajectory you are a taking things carefully because speed in execution to write, act, and direct movies like A Star Is Born and Maestro requires skill, care, and time to prepare.

No he doesnt. Juliens nose looks standard. Coopers nose looks like bad prosthetics.
As a gay musician, I fucking loved this film
Cool dude
Haven't seen this movie (though I might....eventually), but in terms of the nose debate, I'm with Julien on this one. I can see how some people might find it offensive, at first, but for me (a non-Jew, to be fair) it's no worse than when Rami Malek put on the fake teeth for that Freddie Mercury bio-pic, or when that actor (no idea who he is...) put on a prosthetic nose to play Nixon in Watchmen. Both the Freddie teeth and the Nixon nose looked absolutely ridiculous, but it was simply a way to bring the actors' appearance closer to that of the figure they were portraying. No matter how cartoonish it ended up looking, no offense was inteded therefore no offense need be inferred 🤷♂️
Agreed, but minorities who receive hate have every right to feel offenfed if they feel to.

I had that over artistic approach to the film because the problem with that because he’s so new to directing it’s a bit ambitious and you’re still trying to figure out your footing as to just basic directing style and finding your directing style and I don’t think anybody should try to pick up anybody else’s style unless it’s truly to them in not in experimental Avenue and try and do something different because I don’t think many directors change their style depending on the movie subject matter they all have relatively the same style.
I like ambition more than voice. Oppenheimer doesnt strike me as a nolan dilm.
