Here's a (not so!) secret studio trick to make any microphone sound more professional in Bandlab. This trick will actually work in almost any multi track recorder software that has EQ fx.
I like to add a noise gate but the graphic eq is really all you need! Sometimes it just comes in trial and error and adjusting the settings to your liking. Great tutorial.

Your song is already in your memory card.. When you are done recording and your song has finished syncing. Go to android-data-bandlab-audio.. Sort your files so that the newest appears first, that's your audio file.

B100D M00N Hi, 2 things might cause this... 1. Recording is too loud and is sound clipping (digital distortion that sounds like a clicking type sound) . Turn down the mic (or phone) volume when recording and / or move the mic (or phone mic) further away from your mouth. 2. Buffer too small (phone doesn't have enough ram memory available). Close all other apps on your phone before recording and reduce the number of tracks you are using in your bandlab project.

Dope OD Hi, Because many speakers don't produce the lower bass frequencies it is common to use a little bit of distortion to add low end punch to bass drums or vocals. Check out my tutorial on how to add distortion to vocals... th-cam.com/video/86xcg4XnTs0/w-d-xo.html Often the lack of bass on the vocals is actually caused by the bass on other instruments causing the lower frequencies of the vocals to be buried in the low frequencies of the other instruments. Panning other low frequency instruments away from the vocals or using the graphics eq fx to remove the low frequencies from instruments, when done correctly, can help the bass on the vocals cut through the mix. Another option is to duplicate the vocal track and cut the high frequencies with a low pass filter in the multi filter fx and even chop up the vocals for more punch.

Dope OD Hi, first I would try reducing the low frequencies (bass) before increasing the high frequencies (treble) because when you increase the volume of any frequency you also increase the amount of background noise at that frequency. Try using the Graphic EQ and reduce the 100hz and 200hz a little bit (about -4dB on 100hz and -2dB on 200hz). If you still want more treble, try increasing 1.6khz or 3.2khz (about 4dB). This is around the mid to upper frequencies of most vocals. 6.4khz is around the top of most vocal frequency ranges but is also where the letter S tends to sit, so while you could increase 6.4khz by about 4dB, it might be best avoided so as to not add the hissing snake sound to the vocals. Before you start playing with a Graphic EQ though, try recording the vocals at different distances from the microphone to find the microphone's sweet spot (usually somewhere between 5 and 15cm from the microphone)... You might find the bass problem can be fixed by changing the distant between the singer and the microphone.
Dinda Dewi Hi, thanks for your question. It's proper name is tonal color (color as in brightness) and works pretty much the same way as a tone control on a guitar. Move the slider left and the reverb sounds more muddy/muffled (less treble), so more like the sound is in another room. Move the slider right and the reverb sounds brighter (more treble), so more like singing in a fully tiled bathroom.

Watch your phone screen and you should see what tone (musical key) your vocals are in. Then check your vocal keys against different scales to see which scales those keys are in. Usually (but not always) they are in the major scale of the first note you Rap, so if you first word shows up on the BandLab tuner as A then you are probably Rapping in A major. If the first word is A#, your vocals are probably slightly out of tune with A. Also, generally, check the scale of the music you are Rapping over, as you are most likely naturally adjusting your vocals to that scale.
milkpaidforit I have used a rode videomicro (plus a splitter cable) with reasonably good results but for pro results I always record my vocals with my rode NT1 (plus tascam audio interface) connected to my computer and recorded into Cakewalk. Then import the recorded vocals into Bandlab.
Do u have any tips for memerizing your songs I literally write everyday so it's hard to remember with out looking at my phone but it sounds like I'm not singing into the mic when this happens any thoughts
milkpaidforit It helps to rhyme the words but mainly visualise your song as a short film and imagine the singer on a journey. If you song includes words like Moon, imagine looking up at the moon while you sing Moon. Songs work best when you add emotion to the words, so don't just sing about love... make it personal, think about a specific person (even an imaginary person) and sing like you are singing face to face with that person and you have this important thing to say to them. In one of my songs I sing of the blue sky above and the fish in the sea... I actually physically look up when I sing of the blue sky and point at the ground when I sing of the fish in the sea... its become such a natural part of singing the song that I never forget the words. Words are also easier to remember when they follow a logical path of a story or conversation, so try to avoid writing songs that are just random words or are simply generic statements.

The noise gate removes all sound below the threshold level you set, so is good for removing all noise that is quieter than the vocals when the vocals (or sounds louder than the threshold) are not playing. But it won't make any difference to any sounds louder than the threshold you set, as the noise gate is turned off when the vocals (or sounds louder than the threshold) are playing. The method I show here removes the noises created by the microphone (ambient hum or hiss, depending on the mic) from all of the recording. So the noise is removed from the sections of the track where there is no vocals (like the noise gate) and from the sections of the track where there is vocals (the noise gate doesn't do this). A noise gate can actually make the microphone sound worse. Because there is no sound when there is no vocals, the noise from the microphone is more obvious when it suddenly appears every time the vocals appear. Hope this helps
Nunya Business Hi, the settings will be different for different microphones and might need more setting up for a cheap microphone than a better mic. It also helps to have a good ear for sound (and some good quality headphones).
Ákos Tóth Hi, the De-esser is like a compressor for a specific frequency, so it doesn't work quite the same way as the first EQ. While the first EQ reduces the volume of all sound in the desired frequency, the de-esser only reduces the volume of the louder sounds in the desired frequency (so quiter sounds still play at the same volume and are ignored by the de-esser). When you sing the letter S, it tends to be louder than the other letters. So you want to reduce the volume of the letter S but not remove the letter S completely - and that is what the De-esser does. I hope this is helpful
